Biden is not giving $1.1 billion to Taiwan. He is selling $1.1 billion of arms to them.

Some need to read the post headline more carefully.

President Joe Biden signed a sweeping $750 billion health care, tax, and climate bill into law at the White House.

President Biden today announced a set of changes to student loans – including cancellation of up to $20,000 for some borrowers – that will cost between $440 billion and $600 billion over the next ten years, with a central estimate of roughly $500 billion.

If you believe in an independent Taiwan, they need weapons to defend itself.

@Nanga

This idiot's already wasted enough money on Ukraine

Selling weapons to another country means you make money not spend it.

Pot meet kettle!

Even if you don't believe in it Taiwan still needs weapons to protect itself

american wars are all about business.dirty business.

I agree, but posters who have boasted their Putin is making money while warring with Ukraine should accept Putin like most other warmongers is in it in large part to increase his personal wealth, while also hoping to increase his wealth down the road by taking more territory and resources stolen from his conquest. Recall Russia is also a major weapons seller, and Putin probably has his bloody hands in defense businesses, too. And wasn't Putin's partner the CCP selling Putin weapons for his war. Same with Iran. The Russia/China/Iran/North Korea new world order looks similar to the old, just with a lot fewer freedoms for most individuals, especially those not from a ruling caste.

When you sell something to someone, you make money. For example, if you go to the store and buy a drink, you now have the drink, but not the ¥150 you spent on it. Whereas, while the store no longer has the drink, it does now have ¥150. And what’s more, the drink likely cost the store less than ¥150 to buy from the supplier, so it will have made what is called a “profit”.

I’m glad to have been a part of your economic literacy education.

what was sold to Ukraine?

nothing.

This article is about Taiwan. It’s in the headline and everything.

So much for the "weak on China" troupe.

But I also think we should sell them subs, 5th gen fighters, anti-air and anti-ship missles at cost.

to approve an estimated $1.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan, including 60 anti-ship missiles and 100 air-to-air missiles,

Just a start.

Pelosi investment paying offnicely.

@PTownsend

Don't kid yourself the US is far and away the biggest exporter of arms, greater than all the other countries combined.

Sparking conflict and selling arms is the US' most profitable business, and yes the politicians are connected to that gravy train.

Team America theme song playing

Don't kid yourself that it's about anything else but money....

USA industrial military complex salivating right now..

Ukraine and Taiwan in the same year? What a dream for them.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

The United States did not "spark a conflict" in Ukaine, Russia did. And the U.S. will not "spark a conflict" over Taiwan, China will, and they openly say so.

Internet posters are free to post whatever they want, no matter how assinine, because the United States lead the world with democratic ideals and a free society 77 years ago. Without the U.S, there wouldn't even be an "internet". Those making a life out of bashing the U.S. ought to try living in a totalitarian state.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

The point is, as usual the US sparks conflict around the world to make a buck, this article makes that very plain to see.

All the justification, "this country does this" etc. is just fabricated narrative to feed the military-industrial complex, which even President Eisenhower himself warned the American people about in his farewell address.

Yes, spend more money that you do not have on the military-industrial complex. The shareholders of Lookheed Maring, Raytheon and their ilk are smiling.... which sadly includes many politicians.

-4 ( +13 / -17 )

Yes, understandable, you like your little purse more than Taiwan, and want to spend the remaining dimes at the supermarket and not for Taiwan’s defense systems, but you just should also recognize that if Taiwan is not supported massively and then occupied by the Chinese, the whole Western world gets into quite some following trouble so that you won’t even have a smaller or emptied purse anymore.

Capitalism incentivises the creation of weapons of war to funnel money from the public purse into private profits, you say? Well, if you don’t like that, then boy do I have an ideology for you!

The Congress should show even more engagement and just give him triple the amount he is asking for. What are those hundreds of elected people there? For warming the chairs and waiting that someone asks them for an overdue hand sign?

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

So the USA government has $billions for Taiwan and Ukraine.

But not it's own people.

https://nypost.com/2022/08/25/20-million-us-homes-cant-pay-utility-bills-as-shutoffs-loom/amp/

That is 20 million homes think 2 to 4 people per home freezing this coming winter.

But don't worry USA "friends" will have everything they need.

1st smart move of his presidency

I couldn't agree more!
