I do not see how democracy survives in an environment in which a certain number of people can put forth statements that are objectively false, that they know are false, and remain unchecked under the TOS.
We see examples here everyday.
Jsapc
Yup. And that is exactly why section 230 needs to be amended.

There are also TV hosts, tucker, ingraham, who are vaccinated but rail against vaccination on their shows.
The problem is that the intellectually challenged viewers either have no idea or just can’t grasp the fact that this disgusting bunch is putting them at risk of serious illness and even death!!!!

This is a problem that will need to be address in some way. Small numbers of people with oversized punching power due to technology are skewing reality and there needs to be a solution.
COVID is just one example, but it's also why people falsely believe the election was stolen or 5G causes cancer. It's just getting crazy. In the past it seemed harmless, but now it's causing people to die and eroding our democracies. And it's only going to get worse as things like deep fake videos become more real looking and governments use social media to promote unrest in other countries.
Like I said, I don't have the answer. But we will reach a tipping point. We can't have situations where a handful of people can create chaos and chalk it up to, "free speech" and "differing opinions."
For those of you who think this situation is fine, I can guarantee that it will some day impact you. Might not be today or tomorrow, but it will happen at some point in the future as it spreads to other areas of society.

Look at the TrumpChump family, they got vaccinated late last year after the false hospital stay and 'recovery' and all the LIES during the year.
And there's crackpots and imbeciles on the AM dial, jerks like the late Rubbish Limberger who lied all the time and their 'dittohead' sheep ate it all up - hook, line, sinker.
And the Jim Baker Ministries have been indicted for selling snake oil as well.
It should be mandatory for everyone, EVERYONE. Get it done or they can't go to anything.

Care to explain how that addresses the problem of deliberate misinformation on publicly accessed discussion boards? Section 230 means the service provider can't be sued for something someone posts. If that protection is removed then discussion board will be heavily moderated, meaning nothing gets posted until a moderator approves or rejects the post, or discussions disappear entirely because it is too hard and too risky. How does that help? Please be specific.

No, it’s blocking opposing points of views even if that view is coming from EXPERTS counter arguing this WH is forcing people to believe. Who the heck do these people in government think they are?! If they really cared about anyone, they would allow dissent and people to do the research themselves and determine what is the best for their bodies when it comes to taking a drug that’s not even FDA approved. If the government starts doing this on COVID where does it end? This is opening up Pandora’s box on a very scary Orwellian level.
No, they absolutely don’t, not at all, they are for it snd the liberal media had on several occasions retract accusations of claiming that. We do and should ask questions and think why are we, the American people NOT allowed to ask or talk about this and people that have suffered side effects from the vaccine, why we can’t talk in detail or scrutinize or why are we giving the people the shot that aren’t in the high risk category?
Who are liberals to determine who is intellectually challenged when so many seem intellectually immune to listen to dissenting viewpoints?
Jsapc
I didn't say "repeal", I said amend. Once platforms have an actual judicial responsibility about what people post on them, you will magically see a lot less fake information. Dominion can sue fox and newsmax, but it can't sue facebook. That needs to change.
Jsapc
If it's a magical chair that puts the guy in every person's living room, yeah you actually can blame the chair.
Blacklabel
Facebook is acting as an arm of the government when doing what they are told to do by the Biden administration. This is quite clear.
I guess it doesn’t worry liberals that social media platforms are government controlled for content?
not just a platform but a content provider. Bye bye 230.
Jsapc
At what point was Tucker Carlson "fine" exactly? He always was and always will be a monumental goober.

Not being vaccinated harms society, not just the person who refuses it.
There are people who cannot be vaccinated due to real health considerations. They never for everyone they come in contact with to have effective virus-fighting capabilities.
The unvaccinated are trying to kill grandma and people with poor immune systems.
The unvaccinated are allowing the virus to continue living, mutating, possibly into more dangerous versions.
I used to believe in freedom of speech without limitations. If you didn't like what was being said, you could stop listening. I never realized so many people confuse social media with facts provided by news organizations. Some idiot can say hundreds of lies, yet find an audience. I don't really care if they believe their lies or not. Certain topics aren't a matter of opinion. There are facts in this world, regardless of what certain political types think.
bass4funk
That is right. Nothing to add to that. As a free American, you don’t have to listen to the government when it comes to injecting drugs into your body. You and you alone can and should make that decision. Allow for discussion and acceptance of various scientific theories and viewpoints and you will have more people opening up and trusting this vaccine.
Good for them
Doesn't matter which and No to your second question.
Blacklabel
and conveniently all these indisputable facts align directly with liberal beliefs and values. Hmmmm.....
Blacklabel
Another reason to wait at least 2 months.
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/16/health/pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-fda-priority-review/index.html
Blacklabel
Because it forces you to address the topic not criticize the source. You won’t criticize your beloved CNN.
SuperLib
?
Only you, Bass, and Perry source CNN. And it always comes with the message that everyone here gets our info from them when literally no one links to them and at least a dozen people have flat out said they don't watch it.
You guys are literally the only ones including them in the conversation.
Blacklabel
“WE” ( government) “flagging” posts FOR Facebook. (Not on Facebook, FOR Facebook), which they then dutifully delete.
“helping” get “trusted content” (government approved) out there.
Blacklabel
So with all the “CNN” deflection no comments about the fact that the 2 vaccines (and the data) have just now been submitted for approval and Moderna “soon”
so we have been told this is safe....with no data? It is planned to be “approved” as late as next Jan but they hope in 2 months or so.
what if the data that no one at the government has seen says something different?
Blacklabel
You are welcome:
Jsapc
Nope.
Blacklabel
again, so you cant deflect to CNN.
Facebook itself says * *the company has partnered with government experts....
Facebook confirms: we've removed more than 18 million pieces of COVID misinformation, removed accounts and connected people to "reliable" (government approved) information.
Blacklabel
yet the article says:
"Moderna has also begun submitting data for approval of its two-dose coronavirus vaccine, and Johnson & Johnson is expected to seek FDA approval."
So if you are beginning something what does that mean? they say they have begun to submit data.
Desert Tortoise
Read Jacobson v Massachusetts 197, US 11 (1905)
NOMINATION
Government controlling social media. Sound familiar?
Blacklabel
meh. any comments on what I actually showed you?
Jsapc
Yup.
And that has nothing to do with how and why the vaccines were approved for emergency use.
They were of course approved based on actual data, not on the magical wishes of two leprechauns, or whatever you think happened.
SuperLib
If a CNN link disputes your point, then CNN is biased and untrustworthy and you ignore it. If a CNN link supports your point, then you post it and use it as evidence.
It's situational legitimacy. Legitimate when they support you, illegitimate when they don't. The same exact source.
You have some kind of mental gymnastics going on where all of this is reasonable when it's obvious you simply get to ignore what you don't like and use what you do like.

It's great seeing so many Trump supporters here disagree and ignore the advice of the former President...
"Would you recommend to our audience that the get the vaccine then?" Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo asked Trump in a phone interview Tuesday night.
"I would. I would recommend it and I would recommend it to a lot of people that don't want to get it and a lot of those people voted for me, frankly.
I would have never thought that they would so openly disagree and ridicule their hero...
Too bad they chose the one and only thing he got right in four years...
Moderator
Readers, former President Trump is not relevant to this discussion.
Blacklabel
yet data results for "emergency use" is much less stringent as data for approval.
But you know this. Basically these vaccines were evaluated as "better than the alternative/better than nothing".
Why cant we wait until the data is reviewed and approval is given before the government tries to mandate that every person must take it and before we start discriminating against people who dont want it yet.
