The Freedom Caucus, whose members helped oust Johnson’s predecessor last year, said Congress should seek “maximum liability” from foreign shipping companies.

Resolving the jungle of liability claims that will arise from the allision will requires years of litigation. Rebuilding the bridge cannot wait for those cases to be either settled or tried in court. In addition an old maritime law may end up limiting the payout by the ship's owner to the value of the un-repaired ship, a few tens of millions of dollars.

If they want to play that game then every red state infrastructure project should be de-funded to pay for the reconstruction of the Key Bridge.

It is a given that the bridge needs to be repaired ASAP. "Some" GOP members resisting putting funding towards repairs without tagging a lot of other trash bills along with it? Smells like the toxic MAGAt members rearing their sick heads.

The nation owes it to Baltimore to restore the port, the bridge, and the livelyhood of the workers.
