The American government is broken. That a governor ditches a president visiting a disaster area with federal aid to dole out used to be unthinkable.
UChosePoorly
DeSantis doesn't want Biden laughing at his Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader boots.
EFD
Rock-Star Ronnie is too much of a panzy to meet a potential political opponent for something as worthless as the welfare of the people of his state.
Facts Please
Who is telling the truth here, DeSantis or Biden? The evidence is painfully obvious that DeSantis chose to play politics with a disaster instead of working with Biden.
We know this due to the weak excuse provided by the DeSantis camp:
Biden, a Democrat, told reporters on Friday he would see the governor during the trip, but DeSantis' spokesman Jeremy Redfern said later that no meeting was planned and "the security preparations alone that would go in to setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts."
Notice how security is only an issue when a Republican is excusing their repugnance in not joining a Democrat to comfort the needy and not an issue when a former president is going to be ARRESTED and CHARGED with MULTIPLE FELONIES? So do I.
Please, please do not hack up my post in order to reply to me in a childish manner. Furthermore, please do not respond to me if you are going to refuse to use facts, reason, politeness, or simply want to “stick it” to someone.
If you truly want to “stick it” to anyone, you have to use facts, logic, and reason or you’re just displaying your lack of intelligence.
Thank you all in advance for being courteous posters and not managing to have this thread disabled before 1300 hours.

DeSantis is busy crafting bills that targeting guys affected by the storm.

I’m confused, I thought Joe said that he’s better than the Republicans and believes and thinks you should reach across that aisle and work in a bipartisan fashion, so it was all a lie, lip service, political grandstanding? Deception tactic? Well, if Republicans reciprocate in return in the future don’t say Jack. No one likes a hypocrite especially if it’s from Biden. Might actually be better, Joe can’t do anything but just annoy people. Anyway, thank you RD for doing what you do in these terrible disasters.

It's Desantis's job to meet with the president and discuss federal aid.

Agreed.
True.
No.
It's Ronnie who won't meet with Biden. Not the other way around.
u_s__reamer
If young Ron down in Florida needs "comforting", too, that's not old Joe's job: a shoulder to cry on should be the job of the old orange RINO who has caused him so much grief in his attempt to climb the greasy pole to Pennsylvania Ave in his white boots.
Facts Please
*WASHINGTON – Today, the NAACP Board of Directors ISSUED a formal travel advisory for the state of Florida.*
The formal travel notice states, "Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color."

”Issuing” information is far different than “sending out memos.” Please leave your emotions at the door as they interfere with accurate information. Thank you.

At this point, the majority of people in that state really don’t care to see Biden, they don’t need to be more upset than they already are.
It’s open forum, people can respond the way they want.
True, but use what you think will think will further the conversation, meaning, what one person determines to be facts might not be seen as factual to someone else and you can bring opposing viewpoints in an intelligent way and not agree with one another, that’s the beauty of debate.

Once again, a failure to read the article...
Biden, a Democrat, told reporters on Friday he would see the governor during the trip, but DeSantis' spokesman Jeremy Redfern said later that no meeting was planned and "the security preparations alone that would go in to setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts." DeSantis, 44, instead spent the day about 50 miles (80 km) south, touring small communities along Florida's Gulf Coast, according to his official schedule. Responding to a question on Saturday on what had happened to the meeting, Biden told reporters, "I don't know. He's not going to be there."
Yes, yes, BINGO! and likely....
Jack who?
As evidenced by your downvote column...
And according to the resident at Mar-A-Lago, filling the state with "misery and despair", turning it into "one of the worst states in the US...

That resident is your hero so we're sure you agree...or is he lying?

Come again?
Biden RAN on being bipartisan, hasn’t shown it yet…that is, only when it is to his benefit.

When the LA times calls out Biden you know the poo just hit the fan.

The people of Florida will be very grateful for any federal aid they receive regardless of who is president. Like in Maui, these disasters are not a time for politics. They are a time when thousands of people need immediate aid just to survive and more aid for reconstruction. In that part of Florida flood insurance is already very high and after the payouts, it will be increased beyond what some people can afford.
The cost will be more than $20 billion.
Instead of the politics think of the victims.
Bob Fosse
That article is from Spring 2021. It’s rather a stretch to say the poo just hit the fan.
Besides, it doesn’t call out Biden, it blames the GOP for the failures of bipartisanship.
bass4funk
Nothing has changed though, that’s the ironic thing, you think it would, they say with age comes wisdom….Well, Joe failed on that one.
Yes, but Biden is president and he ran on bipartisanship, and yet, nothing, so back to Ron, there you go, why does he have to? Not helping his state or the people in Florida.
bass4funk
Yes, but that doesn’t make them like or warm up to Biden.
Tell the people that.
Well, that’s what Ron is doing.
plasticmonkey
Weak defense. Let's see how soon this discussion gets dragged into the ditch.
The Infrastructure Bill, the CHIPS Act, and support for Ukraine were all passed with bipartisan support. So no, that's not "nothing".

President Biden on Saturday praised Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) while visiting Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia after he was snubbed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“I’m very pleased, the guy who we don’t agree very much at all, the distinguished former governor and senior senator, he came, talked about to me and to you all [about] what an incredible job the federal government was doing and I found that reassuring,” Biden said in remarks in Live Oak, Fla. “And, so, I think we can pull all of this together, I really do.”
Biden was referring to Scott, who met with him earlier that day to discuss hurricane response efforts. Biden told reporters he wasn’t disappointed that DeSantis didn’t join the visit.
“No, I’m not disappointed. He may have had other reasons,” the president said. “But he did help us plan this, he sat with FEMA and decided where we should go, where it would be the least disruptive.”

The only Florida people affected are those in the disaster areas. Not the whole state. The Fed aid dollar will come from both Republicans and Democrats alike.
"The Florida Disaster Fund, announced by Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis, has raised nearly $3 million since activation and is currently accepting donations to support communities impacted by Hurricane Idalia."
Far short of the billions needed.
DeSantis voted against Sandy aid a decade ago. Now his state needs the help.
Florida’s Republicans have a complicated relationship with disaster aid.

Foreigners in Florida buy about $5 billion of properties every year. But if any are in the disaster area they are not entitled to federal aid.
bass4funk
Nope.
Then don’t drag it into one
Seriously, did they have a choice? No, they really didn’t, but we all knew what would happen if they didn’t go along…Well, most of the GOP
Facts Please
Correct. Adult Republican members of Congress never have a choice, unless it’s to obstruct Democrat presidents. What an ignorant f*cking statement to publish.

At the moment, the Maui and Florida victims do not need any politics. They need aid.

Your metric, Bass.

Smart decision by the President.
DeSantis would probably try to divert disaster relief funds for his cronies business ventures.
Like he did with COVID stimulus funds.
Typical republican disaster capitalism.

1) I don’t care, you can think that if you like, we all have various opinions and outlooks and viewpoints on topics, really.
2) This is a liberal site, go figure.
Would be one in a very few…
The Dems definitely would.
Yeah, the left needs to be quiet on this issue, they have a long will need a list of mishandling, stimulus funds, don’t even go there
Not just Republicans, there’s not a single Democrat in Washington, including Bernie Sanders that doesn’t love the capitalist system, not one, and they shouldn’t.
bass4funk
No need
RD is doing just fine in his state, at least the guy suspended his campaign in order to deal with this hurricane, definitely wins props in my book. Biden should take much, much needed notes.

This leftist will bot be quiet.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/15/us/politics/biden-stimulus-bill-republicans.html
Republican tried to have it both ways. Criticizing Dem spending for disasters then misusing the funds for corporate welfare instead of helping the people.
Bernie wants to use the mechanisms of capitalism to help the people and maximize prosperity, not line the pockets of some fat cat cronies.
