The voting rights bill includes provisions to restrict partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts, strike down hurdles to voting and bring transparency to a murky campaign finance system that allows wealthy donors to anonymously bankroll political causes.

And Trump Republicans will oppose the measure. They know they cannot win the White House without continuing their efforts to restrict voting. While they continue to undermine beliefs in elections, even after it's been clearly shown they lost an election. The Republicans and others in the global far right want to further weaken democracies. How are the anti-democracy movements in Myanmar and Hong Kong working out for the general populations there?

One party wants to make it easier for all Americans to vote. The other wants to limit voting by the poor and minorities under the non-existent guise of protecting “election integrity.” (Fun fact: there is NO wide spread voter fraud in American elections. Zero. Zip, Zilch. Nada. None.)

Why would a party make up such a patently false, laughably disprovable lie? Because said “party” had been co-opted by cultists who are radioactive to an entire generation and demographic of the electorate, and would cease to exist if voting were made easy.

The crux of the problem for America is the widespread view that any social or economic advance made by Black or Hispanic Americans always and necessarily comes at the expense of white Americans, that racial justice is a zero sum game. Until that falsehood is buried progress in race relations in the US will be slow or non-existent.

“Every eligible voter should be able to vote and have it counted,” Biden said...

Yeah, the key word there is "eligible".

Desert Tortoise is right.

Yeah, the key word there is "eligible".

Raw Beer is right. We need to broaden the number of eligible voters. Felons, for example, should be given the vote.

His plan was announced during a recorded address on the 56th commemoration of “Bloody Sunday,” the 1965 incident in which some 600 civil rights activists were viciously beaten by state troopers as they tried to march for voting rights in Selma, Alabama.

Unbelievable that even after 56 years, the GOP bigots are still continuing with their 'Bloody Sunday'.

It is not!!!

Equality is never at the expense of anyone, only those with a sense of entitlement believe they lose when society becomes more equal.

A new executive order from President Joe Biden directs federal agencies to take a series of steps to promote voting access, a move that comes as congressional Democrats press for a sweeping voting and elections bill to counter efforts to restrict voting access.

"Voting access" is a euphemism for making elections so intransparent and loose that cheating becomes the norm and elections lose meaning. Of course it is not Biden himself who cooks these orders, he reads what his handlers give him.

One party wants to make it easier for all Americans to vote.

Including dead Americans, multiple Americans, non-existant Americans and non-Americans, you mean? Just for reference, there is no European country that allows anonymous mass mail votes with no verification. None.

I agree. But in America today too many whites who are themselves often struggling to make ends meet see gains by other racial and ethnic groups coming at their expense. "Why are their kids getting aid for college and mine dont?" Sigh. "Nobody's helping me". It's not a zero sum game and whites have benefitted from massive government help over the years but it is easy enough to believe and there are no shortage of politicians willing to use that repugnant theme to get votes.

Donald's idiots made enough allegation without any proof for the courts to laugh them out. Who can forget rudy's stellar witness claiming she saw dead people voting.

Neither does the US, get your facts straight!!!

Since we are talking about voters rights here, how does a minority getting the right to vote affect a White person, poor or otherwise?

It does not, and minorities already have the right to vote. But allowing allowing unchecked, illegal, and fictious votes into the process affects everybody, minorities included. You are welcome.

Refusing to hear a case on the basis of procedural excuses ("standing", "too late" etc) does not mean "laughing them out".

You should read Clarence Thomas dissenting opinon on the last SOTUS decision. It is quite scathing, and well argued. I wonder if you could find anything wrong in it.

Apart from the widespread voter suppression in predominantly black and Hispanic areas.

There was harsh scrutiny of state policy that placed 53,000 voter registrations in suspense over small discrepancies, 70% of which were Black voters. Georgia’s practice of aggressively purging hundreds of thousands of voters from the rolls became a matter of national attention. For many, the election illuminated how severely restrictive voting rules could affect an election outcome.

45 even admitted that if it was easier to vote, his disgraceful GOP would never be elected again.

Can you give me examples of illegal, fictitious, and unchecked votes?

Bear in mind, of course, that checking to see a voter's eligibility means that the vote is, by definition, not unchecked. Tread carefully.

Hi Ulysses.

I think before pontificating on Bloody Sunday or the history of American race relations, you might want to Google "George Wallace party affiliation."

Hint: Its not the GOP.

You might also be surprised to learn what party created the KKK.

Learning is fun.
