Non party,

Where it was economically viable and where it made an effect.

As opposed to a Gulf to ocean wall filled with alligator and snake pits (I wish I were making this up) that Mexico would magically pay for.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Commodore,

I guess you find it watch the news conference of the news conference/photo-op. You look, the one where everyone was smiling?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Weren't the two things Trump was going to make "the best, the greatest the most beautiful" the wall and health care? Years of saying he had amazing plans to do both and then...nothing.

I see... If Mexico pay for it then the wall has meaning and it is a necessary to protect USA. if not then that is not economically viable.... ha ha ha ..

I suggest that we must demolish the walls around white house too. Biden can do that. a total waste of money making a wall around white house unless Mexico pay for that...

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

84km. Sad.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Biden is instead seeking money for increased technology at the ports of entry and elsewhere, saying there are more efficient ways to stop illegal immigration and drug smuggling at the border.

This.

And Democrats have always supported walls in high traffic areas. We can dig up the legislation if you'd like. But Trump's idiotic plans for walls in the middle of nowhere was just lighting money on fire for political reasons.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

It’s all about rescinding everything Trump. Despite whether it’s good or not.

So what you're saying is that taking money that the Pentagon was going to use on an elementary school for the children of American service members in Germany, on a fire and rescue station at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida and to expand defenses against North Korean ballistic missiles at Fort Greely in Alaska in order to build a completely useless wall... was actually a good thing?

But since Trump didn’t get Mexico to pay for it

Did you actually think, for real, that there was any chance that Mexico would pay for the wall? Seriously?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Biden has let all Americans down, BUT he is not in control. His left wing progressive advisers tell him what to do. His campaign was a series of lies, and I am a Democrat. Any country that cannot or will not control it’s borders, cannot secure the people living in those borders. He has turned the border over to smugglers, the drug cartels, and thugs. He is safe on the White House, but what about Americans who live on the border? He is a one term President, and he has turned the US House and Senate over to the Republicans in 2022. He duped many of us in 2020, but won’t again!!!

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Good decision Joe. Return that money to the defense budget where it was programmed for new houses, new MWR facilities, and other infrastructure for our troops and their families - you know, the folks our previous President referred to as "suckers and losers"...

And that 400 miles of new fence (out of 2K miles) that an 8 year old can climb over? Name it the Trump Memorial Children's Border Playground...

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Pretty stupid of Trump to leave a big gap in the wall like that.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

“Building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border and costs American taxpayers billions of dollars is not a serious policy solution or responsible use of federal funds,” the Office of Management and Budget said in a statement outlining the plan.

Democrats Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Chuck Schumer might disagree. As senators, they all voted YES in favor of the Secure Fence Act in 2006. Bill Clinton's administration built at least 325 miles of wall.

Why wasn't that money used then instead to build "an elementary school . . . a fire and rescue station ...and to expand defenses against North Korean ballistic missiles "?

Biden is sipping' from the wrong cup.

The new plan does not cancel the wall project outright

I hope not. Harris just told Guatemalans Do Not Come. But now the US tells drug traffickers, human smugglers, there will be huge security gaps in the border wall.

Because at the time, that money was not taken directly from the Pentagon.

This is al stuff you would easily find if with a few google searches, you know. You should try that sometimes.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I like how the media finally has to admit that wall was built.

I also like how people mocking this have yet to come to realize it their problem now.

You do know this wall that was built is from Tokyo to Osaka in length?

If no wall. how will this issue be handled? Flying to Guatemala for a day and saying "dont come"- isnt it.

How will the border crisis be handled if no wall? just keep letting them come in until you figure it out, then never figure it out? it ok we can finish the wall starting after next year election.

The Trump administration built about 450 miles (725 kilometers) of wall,

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

its where the door for the legal immigrants is planned to be, dont worry.

Pretty stupid of Trump to leave a big gap in the wall like that.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

As senators, they all voted YES in favor of the Secure Fence Act in 2006.

And it failed back then. But what does never fail? Ladders. For thousands of years ladders have been used to go over walls.

But now the US tells drug traffickers...

American smugglers leading drug trafficking at the border

Yes, because walls are stupid. PROOF: ladders

they can laugh at Trump

yes, and the ladder companies would be laughing all the way to the bank

2 ( +4 / -2 )

LOL

Press op really. It’s like planning a months long fishing trip and the some strange lady from the US shouts into a mic and says, “you should cancel your trip”. what a joke. The US has multiple times since the 1960’s to tried to support the central and south America’s usually with cash, sometimes covertly and with violence. The cash was usually stolen by the corrupt gang of leadership. But then Joey comes along making a whole new slew of promises and, the left with their lack of convictions due to historical ignorance, especially about the south and the border, choose the worst leader out of the bunch. Nobody should expect much out of Joey’s gang. They’re just bag of old and stinky broken eggs, trying to sell themselves as farm fresh.

The Democrats never cared about border security unless it’s near the vicinity of where they live, then it’s angst and resistent and as gang culture and crime surges, more snd more people can’t leave fast enough, it’d gotten so bad, the Republicans in Texas will start increasing border security along their border if this administration won’t. Again, this helps the GOP in 2022

But then Joey comes along making a whole new slew of promises

Trump did fail in his promise to build a wall

Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators

(news source)

He also failed to deliver the snakes and alligators to keep the illegals out. That might work effectively against ladders since if the illegals tried to use a ladders they would have to put that ladder in the trench and the alligators would snap at them, thus preventing the usage of ladders. That's Trump's failure.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I like how the media finally has to admit that wall was built.

The U.S. built new barriers along 455 miles, 49 miles of which previously had no barrier.

The total length of the continental border is 1,954 miles.

Sooo.... "mission accomplished"...?

That project never was an actual "massive wall that spans the entire southern border". Those are two entirely different things.

700 miles long wall of a 2,000 miles border sounds pretty massive.

Because at the time, that money was not taken directly from the Pentagon.

The Secure Fence Act ,Public Law No: 109-367 (10/26/2006)--meaning it is money appropriated by Congress. The Pentagon did not have anything to do with that law.

I did. You should try it yourself.

If that’s all you got that’s a whopping failure. Time to move on. Trumps gone.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

700 miles long wall of a 2,000 miles border sounds pretty massive.

WRONG!

However, only 80 miles of new barriers have been built where there were none before - that includes 47 miles of primary wall, and 33 miles of secondary wall built to reinforce the initial barrier.

(news source)

Commodore Perry: Democrats Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Chuck Schumer might disagree. As senators, they all voted YES in favor of the Secure Fence Act in 2006. Bill Clinton's administration built at least 325 miles of wall.

They sure did.

The argument has always been about diminishing returns and logistics. Conservatives say that if Democrats don't support building a wall in remote desert locations, then it means they must support open borders. But that's never been the case.

The fact is that the US has to spend money where it's most effective. Building walls in high traffic areas helps, so does technology and increased patrols. Building walls in Nowhere, Texas with armed guards is just lighting money on fire.

Trump supporters tend to support the latter.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

why the insistence to deflect to "new" wall?

You demolish your current house because it is old and not meeting your needs. Then you build a new one on the same spot that now fits your needs...you have built a house.

no one tries to snark you and say "but its not new, an old, useless house was already there before"

A wall from Tokyo to Osaka. in less than 2 years. whole thing likely could have been done if not for lawsuits.

so, no wall. whatcha gonna do instead, Democrats?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The Secure Fence Act ,Public Law No: 109-367 (10/26/2006)--meaning it is money appropriated by Congress. The Pentagon did not have anything to do with that law.

Yeah, liberals refuse to read that critical part for some odd reason....

Trump managed to get a whopping 47 miles of new barriers, not wall, built.

No, it’s a wall, now you can call it a fence, liberals can change the definition of words as they see fit like with....uh, infrastructure....

That’s is massive given the border is almost 2,000 miles long.

Notice how I provided a links to the information I am posting. That’s why rational adults do in critical discourse, they don’t just make naked assertions.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

why the insistence to deflect to "new" wall?

Ok fine, and they will just buy new ladders? Don't forget that most drug traffickers are Americans

But its Trump bashing so whatever, enjoy until he gets back reinstated in August

If Trump builds more wall they will buy more ladders, and it won't stop the American traffickers

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Conservatives say that if Democrats don't support building a wall in remote desert locations, then it means they must support open borders.

That’s true. I grew up in OC and that county always made sure homeless, gangs and illegals don’t get a strong foothold in that area, contrast that to LA County where they just allow anyone from anywhere to do anything they want and that’s why LA is a complete disgrace.

The fact is that the US has to spend money where it's most effective. Building walls in high traffic areas helps, so does technology and increased patrols.

Hmmm...not according to the CBP. I’ll take their word since they patrol it.

Building walls in Nowhere, Texas with armed guards is just lighting money on fire.

In Texas they can figure that out for themselves, no need for the left in DC to break a brain cell in thinking what’s right for them. Lol

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

In Texas they can figure that out for themselves

Like the Trump power grid?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump's "great wall" was a big concrete symbol of that.

Except that now it isn't even concrete. In recent weeks, he has been saying it will be made of "beautiful" ****steel slats.

Steel slats?? What is up with the left and their gleeful definition word changes?

The main wall is steel, but these slats are basically what Biden ordered to have put up now that construction is halted. But I guess Joe is starting to get Second thoughts about the wall. After Harris horrible trip down to Latin America, they absolutely (to her dismay) didn’t warm up to her at all, in fact they told her to mind her own business and get out. She even got snippy (as usual when she’s confronted with facts) when a news reporter asked her why and when will she go to the border and what does she do? Giggles and smirks and then scolds the reporter for doing her job. Just outrageous this woman. Close to 80 days and still NO sign from her as border czar.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

The main wall is steel

Ladders are made of aluminum and easily beat walls. The Trump wall is just a wall. Also, it doesn't keep out the American drug dealers. But steel can be sawed through.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Diverting the money back to pentagon...

That is the tax paid by us.

Lets give back all the money to those who paid the tax as the paid amount

and demolish Pentagon.

I did state facts, and backed them up with citations, instead of making naked assertions. My facts implicitly assert that Trump did not build a “700 miles long wall of a 2,000 miles border.

In your giddy zeal, you misread and misinterpreted basic facts.

The 700 miles was in the Secure Fence Act, which democrats Hillary, Obama, and Schumer voted in favor of. Nothing to do with Trump.

Try looking up Public Law 109-367. It's available on the US government's website for free.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Only 50 miles of new wall.

America didn't need or even want a stupid Berlin-ish Wall. I was disgusted that anybody would be so stupid to buy that crap in the first place. Diaper Don is a whining thief, among other things. He has NO admirable traits or qualities whatsoever. None.

Bass: In Texas they can figure that out for themselves

Looks like they've figured it out already. While I'm sure they appreciate your opinion from thousands of miles away from Texas, it's ultimately irrelevant, even if inaccurate.

The Houston Cronicle:

"The poll, conducted at the end of May, found 44 percent of Texans approve of Biden’s handling of immigration compared to 35 percent who approve of Abbott’s. The online poll of 506 Texas residents was conducted by Spectrum News and Ipsos and had a margin of error of plus or minus 5.2 percentage points."

But that's just data. What do your feelings say?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

nishikatToday  12:09 pm JST

And it still failed, so what? Hillary and Obama moved on.

Moved on from voting for appropriations for building a wall? Well, they weren't senators in 2013 (OBAMA administration) when Democrat Schumer introduced the bill for the Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. Which contained funding for--guess what?---building a wall on the Mexican border.

But EVERY democrat senator voted for it, so I guess you cannot say the Democrats moved on from trying to build a wall.

Guess who else voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act in 2006?

You got it--JOE BIDEN.

So do the democrats want to build a wall or not?? Based on their voting record, the answer is obvious.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Demonstrably false. Trump changed the wall from concrete to steel slats long before Biden was even elected:

No, he didn’t, that was Newsom in his efforts to stop Trump from proceeding with the wall and as they were running of money because they weren’t allowed to use the steel, they reverted to the slats.

*In 2015, Mr. Trump said of his wall, "It's going to be made of hardened concrete, and it's going to be made out of rebar, and steel."

The foundation is concrete and the wall itself for most of it is steel. Take a trip down there, I did and listen and talk to some of the CBP agents, the msm and Washington won’t, they’ll tell you.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Looks like they've figured it out already. While I'm sure they appreciate your opinion from thousands of miles away from Texas, it's ultimately irrelevant, even if inaccurate.

No, it’s actually on point and since I’m a resident of the US and citizen, I have a say.

The Houston Cronicle:

"The poll, conducted at the end of May, found 44 percent of Texans approve of Biden’s handling of immigration compared to 35 percent who approve of Abbott’s. https://nypost.com/2021/04/05/more-americans-disapprove-of-bidens-handling-of-border-than-approve-poll/

More Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the dramatic influx of unaccompanied children arriving at the southern border than approve, according to a poll released Monday.

Overall, 40 percent of Americans disapprove of how Biden is controlling the situation at the Mexican border, while just 24 percent approve, an Associated Press-NORC poll found.

Thirty-five percent don’t have an opinion.

Broken down by political persuasion, 66 percent of Republicans disapprove along with 15 percent of Democrats.

Only 8 percent of Republicans approve as do 44 percent of Democrats.

But that's just data. What do your feelings say

Biden doesn’t know what he’s doing.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Republican Texas governor, Greg Abbott, has announced that the state will build a wall along its southern border with Mexico. Plans for Texas to construct its own detention centres and $1bn of the state’s budget being allocated to border security. Abbott also declared that more undocumented immigrants will be arrested and sent to local jails versus being turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as Ice.

Good.

But, there has been little evidence that harsher border policies are effective. In particular, Trump’s border wall is scalable with $5 ladders.

And now with catch and release reinstated by this administration, border patrol agents have less time to do their job, which is to patrol the border. Many of them now have to process illegals that takes up 70% of their time. This is the golden opportunity that the Cartels could ever ask for, thanks Joe.

“Governor Abbott is planning to steal Texans’ land for a political stunt,” tweeted Democratic Texas representative Joaquin Castro.

Yeah, the liberals would say that, not surprised even though they just elected a Hispanic Republican who supports Trump’s border policy and in Southern Texas to boot.

“To be clear, this is an attempt to distract from his governing failures while targeting vulnerable migrants,” tweeted the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas.

Uh-huh, sure, lol

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yeah, bad news for the Dems....again...

https://www.newsweek.com/republican-wins-mayoral-race-85-latino-texas-town-where-hillary-clinton-won-40-points-1598154

Ronna McDaniel, the chair of the Republican National Committee, called Villalobos' victory and another Republican mayoral win in Fort Worth a sign that voters are rejecting the Biden administration's "failed policies."

"Whether rejecting a crisis at the border or a squandered economic recovery, these municipalities moved decidedly toward the GOP, because our policies work," McDaniel wrote on Twitter.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

So that means the Mexicans will get their money back!

oh, wait.....

5 ( +6 / -1 )

listen and talk to some of the CBP agents

I did, some of them are personal friends of mine and they said that the Trump wall make no difference.

The foundation is concrete and the wall itself for most of it is steel.

But it won't stop an aluminum ladder. Also, most drug smugglers are Americans. Then we have sling shots, drones and shovels (to build tunnels)

Border Agent Explains to Trump Why a Wall Won't Solve Problems at the U.S.-Mexico Border

DHS agents highlighted their discovery of a tunnel, built under a border section that is already protected by a wall....Agents also offered statistics showing that illegal cargo in vehicles coming through official ports of entry is the most common way of smuggling in meth and heroin into the U.S. - which counters claims from Trump that drugs are primarily coming over the border.

(News source)

And even smugglers had to face the wall they would use slingshots and drones
