What is noticeably missing from Joe Biden ambitious climate change plan that would revamp the U.S. energy sector and seek to achieve carbon pollution-free power in just 15 years is effective process of calculating the cost, and how and where a dramatic shift in consumption will tempt investment away from fossil fuels. Biden pledged to spend $2 trillion could not be sufficient.

At some point broad-based carbon taxes would have to be implemented. Every $1 per ton carbon tax would raise petrol prices by approximately $0.01 per gallon. Joe Bidens model could send carbon pricing to some $50 per ton. I am assuming Biden could propose a cap-and-trade to the electricity sector.

Also it is a common belief that carbon pricing is regressive, families on lower income thresholds spend a higher proportion of their income on energy.

Joe Biden has, to date not supported carbon tax however the more aggressive progressive element within his party will bounce Biden at some point.

Given Russia's biggest source of revenue is selling gas, oil and coal, expect even greater Russian 'meddling' in US elections. And also expect US and global oil corporations to pour even more money into Republican coffers.

Last week, Biden presented a blueprint for renewable energy success from the “Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force” which calls for the installation of 500 million solar panels within five years and the elimination of carbon pollution from power plants by 2035.

In all honesty without a clear economic policy to tackle this pandemic, the revenue stream to fund such a pledge, undertaking is fanciful, may I even suggest duplicitous.

The policy largely follows the recommendations of the Unity taskforce of Sanders and Biden supporters that was co-chaired by the New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who co-sponsored the Green New Deal, and former secretary of state John Kerry.
