Biden welcomes Jordan's king as framework for hostage deal is decided in Israel-Hamas conflict

Some interesting irony here.

Jordan was the Arab state created for the Arabs living in the region of Palestine in the 1940s.

Many of those Arabs became citizens of Jordan.

Jordan occupied Judea and Samaria for almost 20 years.

Jordan later expelled and displaced tens of thousands of Arabs who had moved there from the Palestine region.

Jordan along with 5 other countries attacked Israel upon its establishment in 1948, and also in 1967 with 4 other Arab countries.

Israel defeated all those countries, by itself, each time.

Good idea, as would be air defense on US forward bases operating inside Jordan!

Entire Mid-East has turned towards China/Russia and BRICS, Jorden, without energy resources is more less not catching the CHINA/Russia/BRICS wave.

Glad US still has real friends in Mid-East like Jordan, besides just our Gaza Genocide partner!

Sigh. No.. Jordan was formed as a result of the 1916 Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire. They, the Sauds, the Iraqis, Lebanese and Syrians were coaxed into revolting against the Ottoman Empire by the French and British during WWI. The British installed the Hasehmite Clan as the royal family. The country was originally called Transjordan and was a British protectorate until 1946 when they gained independence. When Israel declared independence Jordanian forces seized the West Bank and East Jerusalem and annexed that into Jordan. Jordan subsequently lost control of the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab Israeli War. Many Palestinians who were expelled from Israel upon its founding settled in Jordan. Many more ended up in refugee camps after the 1967 war.

Sigh. No.

Your history is completely wrong. Off by 30 years.

*The Treaty of London, signed by the British Government and the Emir of Transjordan on *22 March 1946, recognised the independence of the state

@Tortoise

They...were coaxed into revolting against the Ottoman Empire by the French and British during WWI.

"coaxed"? Yeah, right. Arab nationalism had been around for nearly a century before then. They had long demanded better treatment within the Ottoman empire, which the Ottomans weren't willing to give. WW1 changed that. It granted them the opportunity to break free, especially after the Ottomans sided with Germany and declared war against the British and French, ended up on the losing side, and saw their empire collapse.

The Ottoman empire's collapse set the stage for most of the problems and conflict in the Mideast today.

What about the long-standing (and currently no longer operational) US & Israel many decades old strategy of getting Suni and Shia to war with each other?

Seems during Biden's global proxy war destabilization agenda, China & Russia have had real "BRICS" success bringing Suni and Shia together in reconciliation. Jordan seems content to continue their westward bias.

And you are hundreds of years out of date.

Jordan is the only one betting on historical continuity. Don't know what Saudi is doing. Maybe putting on a show for desperate Xi.

Kirby said the U.S. still opposed a general ceasefire in Gaza, as Abdullah and other regional leaders have called for.

Credit to the US for this stance.
