This is great some moral guidence for our senators. I believe that Church elders view should be taken into account in all our nations social policies, then maybe we will have a more nation and less abortions for instance.

Just curious....are abortions covered in other national health care plans? I've never thought to ask until now.

Well in Canada, which technically has national health care, each individual province sets a lot of their own healthcare policies, so some provinces pay for all abortions and some pay for abortions on a case by case basis based on the essentialness of the procedure.

No contraceptives, no abortions, look at the Philippines and Africa and see how well following the Catholic Church's teaching did for them.

eljaffe: Why do the insurance companies want to change the current system that nets them insane profits" Several reasons, but I'll be brief because its late and my wife is out and our new nanny looks.. For the first time, if they get what they want out of this, what you don't hear being talked about unless you reason other news sources, is that they will be able to sell across state lines. Right now, you and most posters here, blame the insurance companies for that. New, its state laws. Second, look, either you are going to have to be insured, or pay a fine. That's like saying hey, you have to do business with my industry. Kind of like a DMV so to speak. Third, the regional players will become national players, and they will get government support.

Look, I'll try to go on tomorrow, but as for this topic and abortion... do you really think they wouldn't want to take your money? Do you really think the gov, who gets alot of money from the insurance sector.

I hope you are not one of those who thinks anything related to this is going to kill the insurance sector.

That is kind of sad yelnats that you would abort a baby because it has a handicap.

Yelnats : put my name in the database. Even if the brat is just like you. We all got our quirks. Japan does not pay for abortions my wife says. It is not an illness. Health Insurance is for health, duh.

For those that are anti-abortion, here is my suggestion:

Nah, much better just to kill them all...right? Yeah, right.

Skip.. Why do the insurance companies want to change the current system that nets them insane profits?

The conference distributed fliers to every parish in the nation asking people to pray for abortion restrictions and to call their congressmen and senators asking them to “fix these bills with pro-life amendments.”

Why don't they mind their own business?

For those that are anti-abortion, here is my suggestion:

Put all the anti-abortionist names in a computer system, and when another unwanted baby, or a rape baby, or an incest baby or one with handicaps known before birth is born, the computer does a lottery and picks out one of the names. The person selected would be forced to take and raise the baby. Problem solved.

There are also conservative Democrats. The Democrats courted some conservative members of their party to run against Republicans in conservative districts. The result was that more Democrats got seats, but they have some conservative views which support the right to life and the traditional family. The Bishops would have gotten nowhere without them and others of like persuasion. I would also like to add that Obama also does not want Federal dollars supporting abortion birth control. It is my understanding that this has been outlawed for the past 10 years. Gives me hope for the USA.

Because the insurance companies who are lining politicians pockets don't want to see sweeping change. Common sense is clouded by money and power.

"scarce votes to pass their sweeping health overhaul legislation"

I wonder why these votes were scarce...
