That sentence really doesn' t make sense. Are you trying to say Zimmerman declared he was a vigilante? Where did you read this? And can you tell us in what dictionary or usage manual would one learn that a vigilante can be "put up for reward" ? The Black Panthers have put up a reward for his capture, as I understand the article.

Not at all, and I am most certainly against the death sentence. I said he's getting a TASTE of the kind of justice that he felt he could dole out on others. What's disappointing is that people are defending Zimmerman and even suggesting some kind of innocence on his part because he has not been convicted. I'm sorry you see that as any kind of disappointment he is not dead, but I'm not surprised you would jump to conclusions like that.

Someone who wants the rule of law and due process ignored in this case and has already decided Zimmerman, because he is of a different race than the victim must be guilty, is on here whimpering about how the law of the land (Florida's "Stand Your Ground" laws are unique to that state as far as I know) supposedly "protects" racists. Can you cite legal precedence? Here is another chance for JT's resident polymath, and expert on all things American, to show off his vast learning. I would most enjoy reading exactly how some judge worded summation in which it is outlined that the 50 million Hispanics/Mestizos/Mulattoes,Indios/Latinos residing in America shall be granted from the courts preference or favor over blacks / African-Americans in cases like this. I would be surprised if any non-Hispanic judge was even aware of the range of groups that comprise the category of "Hispanic" but receive so little publicity and so little consideration from a political and media complex intent on keeping black-white relations front and center and as fraught with tension as possible.

Lieberman: Regardless of the fact you can't back up your claims, you seem to be forgetting who started the whole thing; who chased whom, despite the police saying he should not? Anything that happened after that was the result of Zimmerman's provocation, including him executing a teenage kid through pure hatred and bigotry. If it were a Muslim you'd already be applying for the New Black Panthers to hold the sign.

I did, before I even asked for a link. I learned that I could not find one example of what you said, that is all I learned. I don't feel like spending so much time searching for something you say exists, when you probably have the liink right there.

As I said in my comment to Lieberman, if indeed that's what was printed it is completely wrong, regardless of what Zimmerman did, and needs to be addressed, and the people who issued it charged with threatening the life of a person. I have not before seen or heard of 'allvoices', but looked around a bit and it doesn't seem like a fudged up photo.

'Black supremacists'? I don't hear them chanting hatred of whites or anything, so I think your just stretching it. In any case, why wouldn't Obama denounce it? I'm just curious what you're going to accuse him of when he does.

It's a citizen journalist site. One of the ones to have sprung up since the MSM doesn't do its job properly anymore. Some of the sites such as Newsbusters and Gateway Pundit do have a Conservative slant so I don't really rely on them for objectivity. Allvoices though is more like realclearpolitics and it seems to strive for balance and objectivity instead of MSM driven narratives and bias. I also did some research on Mr. Harvey the citizen journalist who wrote the article. If anyone could be trusted at the rally to tell the objective truth to all of us afterwards and bridge the gap of mistrust and division that the MSM is sowing right now through the country with its shoddy reporting on this story Allvioces couldn't have found a better objective reporter than Mr. Harvey.

Well Lieberman, I am an American and I don't think that Zimmerman is guilty because he's a different race than his victim, anymore than I think my husband hates all black and African Americans because he's white. I do however think that Zimmerman is guilty, wait for it......because he shot a boy who was "packin'" A BAG OF SKITTLES AND AN ICED TEA....oh yeah, and because the POLICE TOLD HIM NOT TO CHASE TRAYVON. If someone is afraid that they are going to be killed, they don't chase after the person that they're "afraid of"....they do what Trayvon did, they try and run away and then when they person has hunted them done, as is the case with Zimmerman......they ask the person why they're following them, you guessed it.....like you can hear Trayvon doing on the 911 tape. I'm obviously not a member of the NBPP, pretty sure marrying my husband would ban me from being a member. Do I think they should have a bounty out for Zimmerman, no I don't. Looking that the picture of the "poster" -- it's actually more of regular 8.5 x 11 standard printer paper -- I don't see any evidence that a group of people sanctioned it and was behind it. There is a video with an actual poster put out by the New Black Panther Party, but that poster has a picture of Zimmerman and the words: Wanted ALIVE!

The individual who made the flyer pictured in Mr. Harvey's article may have been acting exactly as that -- an individual. That is not to defend the flyer -- which is reprehensible. But it appears to be at odds with the group's "official" message.

I suspect that "the talk" could be expanded to include the fact that, beyond race, there are other divisions as well. There are actually people who despise and fear truth and justice. Those people will not bring themselves to admit that Trayvon -- a completely innocent person just walking home -- had more of a claim to self-defense than does George Zimmerman, who had no authority whatsoever to pursue and cause Trayvon Martin to feel threatened for his safety.

@Yabits---Yes, we have talkings about other subjects...I test out a lot of my lesson plan ideas on them, the most recent involved the graphic novels Maus 1 &2, Barefoot Gen, Palestine, and the Contract w/God Trilogy.

@Kamala Brown-Sparks, it is good you had the talk with your kids. My mother had the same talk with me and my sister when we were younger. However, there in lies the problem the need for the talk itself. If anyone is wondering about why the response to this killing is overly wrought with emotion, and talk about racism and how America is schizo the talk is the reason.

There in itself is the kunadrum. It is important to give your kids that talk especially if you are black. None of my white friends have had this talk and are surprise when I say I've had it. Yet, the talk has the ablity to makes you distrust the police, and other authorities. America may pat itself on the back and say look how far we've come but I really don't think it is that far. I remember the bottles, knives, and occasional guns that have been aimed at me for just walking to school. This wasn't in the 50,60, or 70's it was in 80's and 90's. I remember one black friend of mine saying damn dangerous to be black. Trayvon in the background of a recoreded call has reminded us of that.

Now that I am older and things like that rarely happen to me this incident brings it all back. The constant checking from security staff in the mall, being pulled over by police while walking home from school, nothing makes you feel as great. Especially the first time a cop pulles you over and says "boy". I am not sure what I would have done in Trayvon's place. I've tried the brave it out method various results, the run method (I was good in track I truely believe this is why) many failed results, the stand-up to your bullies (never seems to be one always a pack), I tried talking, bluffing, and threatening. Until you have been followed by someone you truely may never know how frightening it is, the five billion questions running in your head all about safety, or the adjusting youself to the notion that pain is imminent and you need to brace yourself for it. I wouldn't fault Trayvon if I found out he fought back, on occasions I had my little sister with me that is what I had to do. I don't know if Zimmerman is in the wrong; in my heart however having been followed and harassed in my youth I tend to side with deceased. This could have easily been me in the early 90's.

In one screwed up act Zimmerman has highlighted, right or wrongly, that feeling of helplessness. The cops who let him go now are going to have an image problem that sticks with them. America sustains another black eye around the world. I truelly wish the talk wasn't needed but I am sure I am going to have to tell my kids one day as my mother told me, and my grandmother told my father.

Faderkinta, I know what you mean. Right after I turned 18, I broke up a fight. A friend of mine was standing across the parking lot and she wanted to know what happened. Looking back at it we may not have made the "best" decision, but we started using ASL; apparently, the cop that was next to me must have thought I was throwing a gang sign. Next thing I know, I'm on the ground and everyone is yelling at the cops that I'd just had surgery. I had a plastic bag full of medication for my MS, and I'm totally freaking out; when we got to the police department and the person doing fingerprints heard my name, he didn't finish taking my prints. He starts telling me about how our dads had been on the police force together (my dad had a reserve deputy badge even though he'd already retired); suddenly, the cops all start being nice to me and they actually got my bag of meds and brought me a drink to take a pain med. I also know what it's like to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that's what happens when you date a guy whose brother's in the Klan. Looking back at it, I totally understand why my parents told my sister and I never to go to the town he lived in, but I was young, dumb and...you know the rest of it, lol,. On 9/11, I lived across the street from a mosque; that Friday, I came home to 4 cop cars in front of my house, bomb threat. My husband and I had been busy trying to make sure all of our Muslim friends had the basic goods to survive, they couldn't go to the stores to get anything. Talking to the police made me realize that my girls looked just like all of their friends. I don't know how things will get better, people think that just because Obama is president all of the racism has been magically erased. If anything I think that it's gotten worse, now the racist feel justified in their racism because they don't want a black person telling them what to do. The most annoying part of it is that they've created all of these non-justified reasons for their racism, like Obama wasn't born in the US. I'd much rather someone be honest and say they don't want a bi-racial president.

I just appreciate the link, so thank you. Objectivity is not possible, but subjectivity can be lessened to a degree, and I think you for trying to provide that.

@Kamala Brown-Sparks, I think that is the whole problem. When I was a kid a few of us minority kids got together and tried to do a community up-lift program. We thought if we could work with the police and some of the community leaders we could change the overall attitude around our area. It ended up being the worst mistake that we could have made. After putting together meetings all twelve of us are age ranging from 12 to 16 were harassed by the police and the community. I think part of the reason I moved to Japan a small part but still a part was I was tired of trying to build bridges. Which as a kid I heard so many times, you kids are bridge makers but in short we were the nail in the Japanese proverb. Which as why when I hear about things like Trayvon's death and a time I am having my first child I am not sure if I have the balls to raise my child in America. When I was a kid I would at least it is me and not my little sister, or I would rather go through this so my imaginary child wouldn't. However, now as an adult, a future parent all of the memories of growing up there have now let out their edges.

I pray for Trayvon because I have so often been in the situation that I know that only dumb luck did I survivor. Not to mention the times when it wasn't life threatening like some kids throwing fire crackers out of their car windows and shouting insulting names for blacks, and people in general. How can I put my own kid through it? How can you not set your own fears about the world in which you live one them? I think about what the girl who was talking to Trayvon metion he said. She wanted him to run. I've run and had cars chase me, groups chase me, and dog set on me. I learn it is better to pick of the pace and not run unless it is the last resort. Are these really the lessons I want to teach my children?

I am not going to blame any ethnic group, because I think as a kid when all of kids came together and talked about it we all generally want the same thing. However after all the intimation from the cops and our own communities we were just kids. Has it really changed that much since the 90's?

Again, I prefer to wait for a review of all the evidence. I am not in the States at present, but the mainstream media presentation of the case has been a disgrace. To date I have seen the talking heads at MSNBC take opportunity not to squarely blame the apparent vigilante Zimmerman but the usual objects of their seething "progressive" hate - Rush Limbaugh, the Koch Bros., Newt Gingrich and even proponents of Voter ID laws. That, and things like Spike Lee tweeting Zimmerman's address are inexcusable

Seems you prefer to wait for evidence that doesn't exist -- probably a 'the WMDs are there' kinda guy. We know Zimmerman went against the police's express statement not to follow the young lad he then murdered, and we know he later put a bullet in the kid as a result of his following, without reason, the kid and confronting him. By Florida's 'stand your ground' law he should be imprisoned given that Trayvon was simply defending himself from the crazed person who suddenly confronted him while armed (he had a gun, right?). But no, the police, and you, dismiss the evidence that actually exists and say you're waiting for more that might not.
