The death penalty does not scare him, since he goes to paradise.

Crazy how these martyrs actually believe that. Or that they will receive the 72 virgins in that paradise. These are some wacky people.

Apologize for the ideology they follow

Now people here sympathize with the bomber because he apologizes just before his sentence? He probably thought like what the heck, I will say something and hopefully be spared the death penalty. He wanted to live that is why he fought off being arrested or killed until the very end.

5 people were killed, 264 people injured. 6 people lost a limb and 3 lost 2 or more limbs. After that, they were planning to bomb Times Square. Instead of worrying about the feelings of this sick individual, where is your sympathy for the families of the deceased and those scarred for life?

Brian Wheway:

" and why can't a muslim imam go in to tell him that Allah has no place for him in the eternal life because the Quran forbids killing and there are no virgins waiting for him, that would really hack him off! "

err no, a muslim imam can not tell him that, because the Koran does not say that at all. To the contrary, a lot of jihadist radical are being groomed and educated in prison these days.

why does he have to go to a super high security prison, is it for his self well being? chuck him in a normal prison where the inmates can get at him, Iam sure he might have a few "ACCIDENTS" in the shower block where he slips over and bangs his head on the floor, or his fingers get ACCIDENTLY trapped in thoses heavy cell doors. and why can't a muslim imam go in to tell him that Allah has no place for him in the eternal life because the Quran forbids killing and there are no virgins waiting for him, that would really hack him off!

I think the claim is based on calculating all the extra legal bells and whistles that death penalty in the US legal system is accompanied with.

Exactly. When they look at the average cost of imprisoning the inmate until death plus legal costs, vs. the cost of legal costs for inmates sentenced to death, the death penalty ends up costing more. So as far as 'saving money' as an argument, life imprisonment wins that one.

In cases like this the death penalty is more than justified. Bollocks to the appeal process get him strapped straight in the gurney and save the tax payer a fortune.

China-style execution would of course only be at the cost of one bullet.

I don't understand why the death penalty would cost more than a life in prison, so please educate me here. At least when he is executed he will be gone and there will only be a few dozen news reports and then no more forever. I like the death penalty but it should be more like the one in China where they do it immediately after the sentence is passed and send the cost of the bullet to the family, end of story.

The apology will hopefully help some of the families move on in some small way. They probably continue to struggle to make sense of what happened.

The ending would have come faster had he been sentenced to life in prison.

The death penalty does not scare him, since he goes to paradise. Now, if he was buried together with a pig, that would put a dent into his plans. But our socities are too politically correct to even consider that.

Glad he apologized, as I was not sure whether or not he would. As for the death penalty, while there are cases where I'm forced to question my conviction that it is wrong, ultimately that conviction remains unchanged. Those who decree and carry out the death penalty are NO different than the people receiving it (and especially worse when the person receiving it is actually innocent, as is often proven to be the case after the fact). Obviously this guy is not innocent, but murdering him is the same as him murdering the people in Boston.

I'm sure he considers himself a martyr in receiving the death penalty, but at least he won't be wasting tax payers money for the entirety of the rest of his life.

The death penalty costs more than life imprisonment.

I would love to hear the mother appologize. She is an evil parasite who can never return to the USA again, fortunately!

Well at least he apologized. While he will receive the ultimate penalty for his crime, he wasn't arrogant enough to just rub it in like the many other Islamists out there in the world would. Time in prison and dealing with the other convicts there must have softened him up a lot. I've noticed a lot of young people have been throwing their lives away from doing stupid crap lately.

Though this is a basketball expression- too little too late.
