So Hayward goes yahting, and Obama goes golfing. Honestly, I don't know which is worse. The incompetent Obama, or the idiotic Hayward.

Seriously, get a grip. They're getting time off, whatever they're doing with it. I'm not saying it's a great idea, but it's no scandal.

Especially for Obama & Biden. Considering their job, if they can't go get a couple hours off everytime there's a big problem, they'll never get free time. I mean, their jobs makes the whole world's problems concentrating in their hands. Emergency status 24/7. I think there's ways to do it properly without offending people, and sure when one gets a job like that, one should expect little free time. But it's not like they were boasting "now whatch that drive" kinda thing either.

“I wish we could get a day off from the oil, too.”

That't just it. I bet most people have taken a day off from the oil to visit someplace away from shore or sit at home. They could have taken a plane somewhere if they had the money. Everybody needs a day off, and as this guy does not use his own hands to clean the oil up, it doesn't matter where he is.

I think the thing to be upset about is that if he sold that $700,000 yacht, the money could go a way to clean up the mess. I say that, but I don't know how personally responsible he is for it.

I have to say when the house is burning down, one does not just take a vacation. It really sends the wrong signal! But, what the actions of both Obama and Hayward shows is the callous "I don't give a flip" attitude. If they were truly intelligent leaders, they would be down in the gulf 24/7. Maybe they could have relaxed with an restaurant and given that restaurant a little business that went down the toilet because of the spill. And the spill just keeps on a-coming. Amazing how Goldman Sacks dumped all of their stock just before the spill though.

U.S government is going to teach BP a lesson soon...just like they did to the banks after the international economic crisis...wait, what?

Obama, because that doofus, Hayward, has been relieved of his bubbling pipe responsibilities.

Obama for a second reason: My understanding is that President Bush II stopped golfing after the Iraq War heated up. His logic was that it wouldn't look good for him to be seen out golfing while American soldiers were being killed in Iraq. Whether it was an honorable choice or a cunning choice, you be the judge. Either way, Obama being seen out golfing while the Gulf's economy is being destroyed conveys the the message that Obama doesn't give a sh*t.

I am pretty sure that people perform better at their jobs if they are able to take a day or two off, than if they try and work straight for months at a time.

I will quote myself from another post.

“So you think a suit and tie man like Hayward should be there spanner in hand, hard hat on head doing what the experts can’t do? Beside I thought you thought that he was useless, isn’t it therefore better he not be there getting in the way of all those American experts that have been trying and failing for the last 50 plus days?”

I hope he had a nice day, after the mindless c??p he has had to deal with the last few days he deserves a rest. I just wonder how many of these complainers along the Gulf coast are simply sitting and waiting to be paid before they do anything to help. Yes they should be paid for working, but if there is nobody doing that why not get out and do something for themselves.

if this was Bush playing golf you people would be falling all over yourselves screaming about this!

The British press, much more sympathetic than the American media to BP’s plight, has expressed disbelief at the company’s strategy.

"Reasoned" rather than "sympathetic" - the British press don't do sympathy.

TheRat said: Amazing how Goldman Sacks dumped all of their stock just before the spill though.

That plus restricted media coverage plus several other things will foster conspiracy theories and I cannot say they are not justified. For many, the explosion and sinking are just so darned convenient and profitable. And it is simply amazing that in this day in age with all our technology and failsafes that this could happen.

I can understand people piling on Hayward, he's handled this whole thing in spectacularly poor fashion, but I do wonder what it is exactly that the people who disapprove of Obama's handling of the matter expect him to have done at this point?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

From what I understand President Obama gets only 4-6 hours of sleep a night and has taken very few vacations, so it doesn't make sense to jump on him because he plays golf occasionally(as all other presidents have).

Who cares ?!? Top 20% care less for the other 80%...

“It is hard to recall a more catastrophically mishandled public relations response to a crisis than the one we are witnessing,” the Daily Telegraph’s Jeremy Warner wrote Friday.

That's probably a true statement. The meltdown in front of Congress, comments about "the little people" and wanting your life back...just poor strategy overall. I can't say I really care about the boat race, no one can survive on work only, but the overall handling of the issue has been poor.

They should shove Tony Hayward in that pipe, that should slow the the leak to about 500 barrels a day, and to seal it off, they should cram "Bob" down there too, that should stop the leak, after all Captain goes down with his ship...

Think he would have more tact then to go anywhere near an ocean, When the people that his company has poisoned cant do the same. he shouldve gone golfing or bowling.

He is useless. He should resign.

I am pretty sure that people perform better at their jobs if they are able to take a day or two off, than if they try and work straight for months at a time.

You are so right about that. The frustrated Japanese salaryman goes playing pachinko and the BP head, who incidentally is directly responsible for the destruction of the livelihoods of millions plus a huge swath of nature, goes sailing his luxury yacht. Everything in the right proportions.

Hayward will be back on the job, totally refreshed, to solve all his company's problems to the satisfaction of all.

Mr. Hayward was releived of his duties as CEO of BP why shouldn't he do what he wants now?

"Mr." Hayward hasnt been relieved, hes only been relieved of Oil Spill Director. He's still very much employed by BP.

He should resign completely or be shot, the world wouldnt miss him and and his disrepectful comments.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yeah, it's one thing to out yourself, but to out your yacht...that's beyond the pale. And he's a ceo, no less.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yeah hes a tactless twit, $38m a year and he cant even make it seem like he knows what hes doing. BP wouldve been beter off hiring an actor to fill his shoes.

I don't care what happens as long as I get to shriek about Barack Obama some more.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What he does as a private citizen is no one else' business. Get over it.

I wouldnt even call him a "citizen" Im sure if there was oil in your front yard you'd have alot to "get over"

"From what I understand President Obama gets only 4-6 hours of sleep a night and has taken very few vacations, so it doesn't make sense to jump on him because he plays golf occasionally(as all other presidents have)."

In time of war a soldier works everyday, sleeps less then 4 hours at a time, and doesnt get to take a golf day.... Why shouldnt the Commander and Chief be any different. I think a president has the rest of his life to play after he completes his 4-8 years. He should not be spending our money playing when the country has so many major issues. Image is very important for a prez, and his rating has been reflecting his lack of image lately.

As for the BP guy... Hope half his pay is in stock options....

I wonder what James Hackett, (chief executive of Anadarko Petroleum) was doing this weekend, hiding the family silver perhaps?

paulinusa at 12:04 PM JST - 20th June

“…..and has taken very few vacations”

How long has Obama been in office? How many vacations do you think he should or could have had in that time? And remember he is the one doing all the ranting about others.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Mr. Hayward isn't very good at this PR thing, is he?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is a non story.

He is the CEO of a company that brings in a zillion dollars. He has quite a large salary. He's into yacht racing...big deal.

I wonder if this would be news if he went to a baseball game or went biking for a day.

The way the dude has handled the spill is comical. But gee...let the guy have a day off with his family.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has had plenty of vacations. At least 3 this year so far, including 1 very recently, in the middle of the oil crisis. He goes and plays golf literally all the time. Probably a dozen times already, and we aren't even halfway through the year.

I don't blame him for taking vacations, or playing golf. However I question the image it sends. Thats the whole point of this. Both the head of BP and Obama are off having fun, while a disaster continues. If they need time off, they should take it, but it should be done a little more covertly. This is part of being a leader. Something neither Hayward, nor Obama seem to be able to grasp.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What could they do down there? Neither one of them is an engineer. They just get in the way really.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MOLENIR, going to play golf is a metaphor. Like "pocket pool." Yacht style has its own unique meaning in Japanese.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You people need to get over it, the man went Yachting and so what! As it has been said so many times the man has been relieved of his duties from the oil spill.... the american goverment ripped him to shreds and now his off Yachting. GET OVER IT!!

While an environmental catastrophe destroys the Gulf coast and still, no solution in hand. What do those "in charge" do during this crisis?

BP CEO Tony Hayward took time off for a bit of sailing.

Meanwhile, Obama hit the links Saturday for a round of golf with Biden and David Katz, the energy efficiency campaign manager at the Department of Energy.

Heh, strange that the MSM would be "upset" with Hayward but not with Obama.

Sure are a lot of corporate fanboys on these comments.

You do realize who paid for the boat don't you? And no, he isn't going to invite any of you out for a cruise to say thanks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

While it really does not make a difference to the actual work if and where he is sailing, the fact that he does this shows that he has the public relations intelligence of a garden slug.

Good grief, does he really not understand how the media will spin this? Where are his advisors?

Obama, of course, can get away with golfing at the same time, but he has the media bias on his side in a way that the evil capitalist does not.

I'm not invited and I don't go golfing with Obama. Gulf residents have the right to be upset :(

And how massive's the oil-spill disaster, check this one ton tarball recovered south of Perdido Pass, Fla. (Photo taken 2 weeks ago)

Didn't Obama like go golfing, playing basketball and take a trip to Hawaii before he even said a single word about this spill?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

BP should charge these whingeing Americans for all the free oil they're getting.

if this was Bush playing golf you people would be falling all over yourselves screaming about this!

Wow, that's just silly! Bush only went to Camp David like, 149 times during the eight years he was "gifted" the presidency for a total of 487 days and he also spent 490 days at his ranch in Crawford where he went 77 times... That's like, a whole lotta days y'know! Like close to three years, right!?! *sarcasm ends

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-4728085-503544.html

Please, give it a rest about Obama taking vacations... already three this year... wow!!! Give me a break! Or if you want to say something about Obama and his golfing holidays, also mention Bush's escapades! That's only fair!
