" Brazil, besides already having large populations from many Arab countries, specially near the "triple frontier" in the far north, "

Iranians are not Arabs, so that is quite irrelevant to this woman. And if you meant they are muslims, you can bet she is not enthusiastic about to meet Shariah law again, either.

Adultry in japan is not a sin and it is Leagle so she can come to Japan and work in Roppong / Shinjuku. or rather become a Samba dancer.

She is still guilty, right? Just because they've held off stoning her, she is still guilty isn't she?

I can't see Iran, or any other country for that matter, letting someone they see as a criminal go to another country for "political asylum".

We have to respect the laws of the Iranians. We should not meddle in their affairs at all. It's been said on JT countless times. I don't care if they stone her. Just care if they stone an outsider for their own cultural beliefs that have nothing to do with Iran.

↑ Great point.

Just when it looked like Brazil and Iran were getting cozey, Silva makes a bold comment. I'm sure the US is happy and Ahmadinejad has pie on his face.

Nice gesture but I do thing it is an empty one. Even if the woman gets permission to live in Brazil, it will be tough for her very different language(she don't speak) very few of her country-men, etc.

Couldn't disagree more. Brazil, besides already having large populations from many Arab countries, specially near the "triple frontier" in the far north, have an openness to other cultures that makes learning Portuguese easy. Having a culture which has fused elements of many others, including Arab ones, welcoming newcomers comes naturally. I'm sure she would manage very well, if they let her go there.

The trouble with you Mist is that you think you know everything, tell people what you think is a fact when it isn't and generally disrespect the opinion of others. In YOUR world. I sometimes state a fact when I know one but most of the time I'm giving my opinion. I'm not forcing anything down anyone's throat. So how is that "my sledgehammer world" ? I'm not you.

The trouble with you is that you cannot tell the difference between an offer, a suggestion nor for a protest, from meddling. Meddling would be more like staging a coup, starting a war, conducting a black op, or a rescue mission violating international sovereignty. In your sledgehammer world, you have not concept of scalpels.

I'll bet you a million to one it was most likely rape and the men killed the husband. Take note she was first to be stoned for adultry, not murder. Now they are trying to hang her for adultry, not murder. Also take into consideration that both of her children were advocating for international pressure, which I doubt they would have done if she was guilty of participating the murder of her husband. In most of these scenarios with Islamic law in the picture the woman gets punished even if she is the victim. They usually don't focus on wether the sex was consensual or not, they automatically say she's guilty because she had sex while she was married. It doesn't matter to them if it was rape.

"Excellent solution Brazil. She needs asylum from Iran."

I think Iranians need assylum in general from their pathetic regime.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is simply practising Shariah, which from the islamic point of view is the will of God for all mankind. God has declared that adulterous women be stoned to death. No mere human is supposed to argue about that.

So in offering asylum to this offendress of Shariah, Lula is disputing the will of god.... on the other hand, Lula and Ahmedinejad agree in their hatred of the US. So it will be interesting to see Ahmedinejads response.

his woman does not seem to be an innocent little lamb. One of the men she slept with was prosecuted for killing her husband! If that does not raise massive questions in your mind, then you are a reflexive Iran hater.

True, we don't know enough about this particular case. But I believe the definition of

adultery

in Iran includes any sexual relationship post marriage, could even include rape. I also know that no human deserves to be stoned to death. So good on Lula, as leader of a country in more of a position to do something, for making this offer.

Why thank Brazil? What did Brazil do? This is da Silva making the offer and good on him for not only making it, but also for not forgetting about the woman's case since the stoning sentence was repealed.

Official punishment for adultery is indeed ridiculous, but this woman does not seem to be an innocent little lamb. One of the men she slept with was prosecuted for killing her husband! If that does not raise massive questions in your mind, then you are a reflexive Iran hater.
