May their souls rest in peace. My condolences go to the families and friends of those who perished. May God have mercy on them.

RIP. I hope they did not suffer.

Scary. I have always been told that modern airplanes can not just break apart because of wind, not matter how much those wings are flapping (ever looked out of the window?). But apparently, they do. Eeek!

Travelling at faster and faster speeds bring more danger. Today's technology has made travel better, but dangers are more.

They Boeing/Airbus people always say travelling by cars kill more people and they are not wrong.

Boeing/Airbus as great rich companies, should do more via tech to reduce errors while flying.

Nowadays only the skies or outer space above ,are least congested for travelling. These type of travel can be fatal.

God is all merciful but jets are man made imperfect mercies. Imperfect Boeing/Airbus do make imperfect machines.

May God mercy be on the passengers and god's blessings to all the passengers.

Tragic, but not an unexpected outcome. I hope that they can get some submersibles on the scene quickly and recover those flight recorders.

WilliB - it's impossible at this stage to say what the cause was. Even when exposed to extreme turbulence, aircraft simply don't break up when they are properly maintained. I suspect it will turn out to be a combination of factors, probably leading to a critical loss of engine power.

My deepest condolences for the families and friends of those who perished in this tragic events, life will not be the same again, be strong, remember the dead and fight for the living. na mo ami tuo fo.

sometimes, i think we should review back the existing flight technology that we have, its time to make it safer.

JOKERXJOKER, I agree we should review back aircraft travel technology of today and its safety systems.

We need to bring in the most safest tech,it should not to be ,the fastest high speed one, which neglects safety for high speed profit.

Today's society should not condone fast money via high speed unsafe travel technology.

Finding and recovering the black box recorders from a depth of 7,000 meters is going to be quite a task.

WilliB you have been misinformed even a jet plane will brake apart if it makes a hard turn at a speed it is not designed for.

I'll hope they will find the black box and get to the bottom of this (no pun intended)

My condolences. I hope they find the cause of this disaster.

I suppose this is in the back of everybody's minds: FOX is reporting that there were bomb threats made to Air France several days earlier. Either way it really sucks.

Raja, if you don't want to fly that is up to you but I don't think twice about getting on a plane. After about 11 hours I'm ready to get off though....

Yes, condolences to the families.

I guess it can only be described as an act of god.

NYT reported that two Airbus had problems recently. However the Brazilian midia is saying that NYT is just trying to make Airbus look unsafe while praising (silently) Boeing. Last report says that the plane was almost 1 km below the right altitude it should be, but this is not considered an error for the moment being. This route is used by almost every plane leaving from southern South America and vice versa, so the plane could just have given way to an oncoming plane from Europe.

Oceanic Flight 815?

Still 250,000 planes fly everyday without incident, so lets not worry too much and pay our respects.
