I wish my native Mexico could be as great a BRAZIL! I do hope that they can clean up their slums.

Since I saw the move City of God, i have been interested in Brasil and it's slums and their people. I hope they can make progress, not just for the olympic

The gang is called 'Friends of Friends'? Is it the Getalong gang?

On one hand, assuming this all works out for the best (and it might not), its nice to read that the Olympics had a positive effect for once.
On the other, its sad that it took issues like making money off the Olympics and shame that "outsiders will see" to begin cleaning up the mess.

The nice parts of Rio make it one of the most beautiful cities you'll ever see. But then you see the other side of things. I haven't been in the favelas myself, but what I've seen in passing (in Tijuca Forest, along the highway from downtown to the airport) is heartbreaking. And the drugs and gangs just make it worse.
I hope they can get things cleaned up in time for the World Cup and Olympics, but I don't think anyone's going to rest easy until they're both over.

I am sure our Brazilian amigos will be able to clean up Rio, etc..to at least make it safe and clean for the World Cup and the first South American Olympics, yes these will be the first in South America, since the Mexico City Olympics back in 1968 were the first in Latin America but sorry Mexico is actually part of North America with Canada and the USA. I do wish them lots of luck, and maybe the rest of Latin America can learn from our Big Green Giant of the South, Brazil!
