let me guess that she will not fit for her job at all...if she is good for economy as good as for geography... :)

Punchy Start might give a hard blow back...Hope she doesn't get into a vicious circle.

On Thursday, the Bank of England is set to raise interest rates to fight inflation, seemingly moving in an opposing direction to Kwarteng whose tax cuts could stoke prices.

Which tax cuts would boost prices?

Tax cuts means reducing the penalty or disincentive on something… so for example if the tax is on work, then the reduced tax means we get more work. More work usually means more stuff is produced…. And more production is more supply, more supply reduces prices - not increase them.

Higher interest rates and pro-growth policy is just what economies need to get out of the stagflationary environment.

Before L. Truss, why has Britain only had two prime ministers in her long history ? She does not look PM quality. Rishi Sunak does. Sad for Britain.

She is perfect for the current state of that country. She actually personifies what non-entities they have become perfectly.

Before L. Truss, why has Britain only had two prime ministers in her long history?

Erm, historical treatment of women as second class citizens?

Three female leaders in modern history isn’t bad going if you look around the world. Some are yet to have one. How many female leaders has your country had in modern history?

Anyway, male or female is no guarantee of quality. Let’s see how she does.

Putting a climate change denier in charge of the country’s energy probably wasn’t the best move.

By the way, the original comment above was, “Before L. Truss, why has Britain only had two prime ministers in her long history ?” Not, “Before L. Truss, why has Britain only had two female prime ministers in her long history ?”. While the latter makes more sense as a question, it’s interesting that the response to the former is constructed out of what the reader thought they saw.

@Newgirlintown

Thanks for pointing that out.

Outside of being female, I can’t think of any other obvious or noteworthy reason why Truss would be regarded as only the third.

Maybe those with a more detailed knowledge of UK PMs may come up with something. Maybe Stephen Chin can clear this up.

Thanks again.

Yes but WHY has Britain had several blonde prime ministers: Liz Truss, BoJo, and fill in the blank from the remaining 74 besides Gordon Brown whose hair matched his name. It is not a conspiracy to sell more hair dye to the hoi polloi to convince them to stand for election?

@Awa no Gaijin

Don't think many people quite got your gag; Perhaps a mention of 'Wallace and Gromit' would've given more guidance?

Whatever anybody thinks of her, the UK is going to have to give her a fair crack of the whip. After the 'Boris Horror Picture Show' she'll have to be a complete and utter bozo (or Bojo perhaps) to lose her job before the next election.

Regardless of gender, we are products of our environment, stolen/lifted from The Departed.

Liz Truss policy's, energy, social welfare, broadly speaking are opaque, implied, lacks concrete procedural administrative action. Little detail and open to assumptions and interpretation.

There is no solid foundation of financial or administrative commitment to attain the pledges promised.

That will come in her fiscal statement, or mini budget, expected to be delivered by her finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, on Friday when he will scrap an increase in national insurance contributions and freeze corporation tax.

*Kwarteng will also give an estimated cost for the energy package, but it will be up to the business department to offer the detail. He may also announce the end to caps on bankers' bonuses.*

No focus on the cost of living crisis that will ultimately have a debilitating effect on families unable to stretch there budgets.

Liz Truss pledges could be attached to a length of elastic. No sooner in your purse than to disappear when shopping.

That before Jacob Rees Mogg gets his teeth into the proceedings.

This whole Northern Ireland protocol is a red herring.

Biden knows full well any possible trade agreement with Europe, whether EU or the UK has never ever been close, regardless of administrations, for a host of reasons, all been considered obsolete 2019. all sides cannot even agree on non-market trade practices.

On the second day of her being the PM the queen dies. She will bring more misery to the UK! Unfit for the role of PM. Even during the debate sessions on BBC she was terrible. She says things which just doesn’t make sense in the real world. I’m sure she won’t last long as PM. The other guy was not perfect but was much much better than her and could have really brought the British economy back to its glory days through his skills.

y the way, the original comment above was, “Before L. Truss, why has Britain only had two prime ministers in her long history ?” Not, “Before L. While the latter makes more sense as a question, it’s interesting that the response to the former is constructed out of what the reader thought they saw.

I read it the same way as Jimizo - Britain has had a large number of Prime Ministers over hundreds of years, but only two female PMs, so I assumed that it was a typo. Otherwise the question did not make sense.

I think that a more relevant statistic is that three of Britain's last seven PMs have been women. I suspect that the ratio will continue like that in the future.

Liz Truss is ideologically opposite, at least politically to all the opposition parties.

A free marketer, flint faced, a yes no debater.

With a overwhelming majority.

Obstinate, stubborn, and recalcitrant, nods and schemes.

After ten long days of royal funeral soap Truss has shot off to the UN to underwhelm the world with her soporific oratory, following which she'll return to the UK to put her serial incompetence on weekly display until, it is to be hoped, she's finally binned before she causes any further harm to the limping economy. After Thatcher, May, Truss and Trouble, the triple curse of the Tories' "Three Weird Sisters" ought to be the tipping point bursting the bubble of self-delusion too many Brits have voted themselves into.

So the UK Tories have so far stood up 3 female prime ministers.

How many female prime ministers have the UK lefties stood up?

Vote Tory unless you are sexist, seems to be the take away!

They will include a support package to help businesses cope with rising energy prices, a statement on possibly cutting waiting times for treatment at Britain's state-run National Health Service and much promised tax cuts to try to spur growth.

Good luck Ms. Truss.

Biden has long made his concerns known about the future of Northern Ireland,

Give Ireland back to the Irish.

The UK has never had a PM who belongs to an ethnic minority. An incredible track record given today's political environment. But telling of an aspect of society with a long dark history.

Maggie Thatcher made a bad rap in the UK in the 80s. 'Dull Witch of Dulwich'. But that didn't stop the Brits from having another female PM again.

Here in the US, we have yet to have a female POTUS. I have nothing against the notion whatsoever, as long as she is qualified and smart enough for fulfilling the duties. As much as I hate the Dictator Donald, I don't think the real 2016 POTUS winner Hillary Clinton would've been a very effective President IMHO.

We now have a woman VP, with a track record and credentials. Sarah Palin wanted to hold that exalted position but she's corrupt and dumber than an iceberg.

And now Liz Truss succeeds Bozo. Time will tell if she's any better.
