"if it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and flies but is not an aeroplane and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it."...........My favorite gaff from a His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. A true British sense of humor. Prince Philip witticism will be sadly missed.

Hear hear. Enjoy yourself, good sir. A long life well lived. Many more years to come, I hope.

I once sat beside him and we 'chatted' for a while. He was mentally very sharp and his life experiences left me struggling for words. I mentioned being in Japan and stupidly asked if he had ever been. Yes, he replied. His memories consisted of the Emperor signing the declaration of surrender before him on the deck of the Missouri, and officially attending the crown prince's (present Emperor's) wedding in 1959(?).

His comment regarding 'slitty eyes' was a little less innocuous. Bigoted old goat.

That said, he was more entertaining than the younger royals who are stunningly bland.

Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief. What the @xx@ as he might say.

Don't know about that but Indians have also been victims of his colourful sense of humour.

If any representative of the UK such as a diplomat had come out with just one insult on his long list of insults, that person would have been sacked the same day.

And he's also offended the deaf. I, for one, won't miss him.

Another of his many gaffes comes to mind. When hosting a reception for hundreds of prominent British Indian businessmen, HRH said to one Mr Patel,

"There's a lot of your family in tonight"

I wish him the very best in his "retirement". They are an amazing couple. The Queen now in her 90's is unstoppable and it always amazes me that on her walkabouts and standing for hours she is doing it in heels! She's like her mother keeps going. God Bless 'em.
