Fernandez should give it a rest. Despite her popularity the economy is a shambles. Leopoldo Galtieri also tried to use the islands to create naturalistic fervour and distract attention from his crumbling regime.

Argentina would do well to learn from history rather than repeat it. The people who dwell on that island - all of them - want to remain British. And Argentina weren't bothered in the slightest until oil became a possibility. Their bullying economic tactics will turn on them too.

Fernandez says: “They cannot hide behind the so-called self-determination of the islanders when no UN resolution has recognized such a right.”

Is this true? Is there no recognized right of self-determination in the world?

The islands are some 480Km from Argentina, that is well outside of the 200 mile (322Km) internationally recognized economic zone. They belong to the UK or their own selves, which ever they want.

Seeing as the Argie President just nationalized two private companies without the consent of the Spanish shareholders (Repsol was spectacularly shafted and the Spanish government vowed revenge), I don't think we need any lectures from her on what's fair or not.

It always has been US stance for Falklands since PM Margaret Thatcher of UK was in the office.

“Argentina has historic, legal and geographic arguments in favor of our sovereignty over the Malvinas,” he said.

No you don't! Your country has never had control of that island ever.

Except that now, officially, the US refers to them as the Malvinas the same as Argentina. This, does not suggest a neutral stance.
