Life seemed so much simpler when I was growing up in a small city in Australia. There would be an occasional murder but the most violence would usually come from bikers, domestic disputes or juvenile delinquents. What's happened to the world?

What's happened to the world?

Someone shot the Archduke!

Call for "more powers" while people are hysterical. Here's the real threat to freedom.

The governments and their intelligence agencies need their enemies and wars. It's the way to make the money roll and to keep the population in check and under surveillance. All the while - as davestrousers pointed out correctly - the people are getting hysterical.

Go UKIP!

Throw that man a knighthood for services to securitocracy. Sorry, democracy.

Governments never let a tragedy go to waste. Like davestrousers said.

Since the people at Charlie Hebdo were known to be unarmed, they were simply sitting ducks.

Governments never let a tragedy go to waste.

Neither do liberal whiners.

He is kind of stating the bleeding obvious, no?

“Although we and our partners try our utmost, we know that we cannot hope to stop everything"

That's it then. Game over! I grab the ankles and... wait a minute! How many successful Muslim-inspired terrorist attacks in the USA since Sept. 2011? Zero?! There's still hope!

MI5 director general and former public school boy has thrown in the towel, a shameful reflection of a cowardly excuse for future failure to protect the British public. Liberal lefty multiculturalism mascarading as a chief of intelligence service, a shocking Contradictio in terminis.

This can't be true. The U.S. president made it clear Al-Qaida is on the run! ........well, it was not stated weather they were running to or from murderous opportunity.

He's only telling the truth. It is impossible to stop every terrorist. If anyone thinks you can stop it you are very naive and read too many superhero comics.

Always injecting stupid right-wing politics into every issue. This has nothing to do with Obama. Have some respect and give it a rest.

Why would you say that when we have a spineless president that's injecting left wing politics in every issue. The man will not even call this incident out for what it is and for the life of me, any sane person just doesn't get it. It won't hurt him to say radical Jihadist Islamist, now hard was that? It has nothing to do with Obama, True that, however in the bigger picture on geopolitics and radical Islam, the president did brag that Al Qaida was defeated. Mark has a point and I'm throwing it back in the presidents face! He needs to own up and face the harsh reality of what we are dealing with. So how many more innocent people have to die or how many countries have to wait to be attacked by these blood thirsty guys before he as the most powerful man in the oval office calls it out for what it really is? At least Hollande has the guts to call it for what it is.

The head of Britain’s domestic spy agency MI5 warned on Thursday that militant Islamists in Syria were planning “mass casualty attacks” in the West and that intelligence services may be powerless to stop them.

There is only one response.

"Not afraid"

Do not be afraid of the terrorists. Do not be afraid of your government. Protect your essential liberty.

One revealing fact from Snowden was the levels of extraordinary incompetence within the highest echelons of the security services. There is a literary of blunders, followed by cover ups, systematic administrative failures combined with poor management in intelligence gathering. The service has been crying out for a complete overhaul for over 30 years, especially in the manner it which it recruits and fast tracks intelligence analysts.

I'd like to see the evidence for such an attack! How are 'militants' in Syria going to attack the west ? By submarine? And why is it impossible to stop such attacks? Isn't this a cop out? Why is Mr Parker willing to take the UK tax payers money without assurances of such protection? At present the UK screens all passengers at its borders(or tries to) However,I have yet to see an English person involved in such a terror attack! Were so called non Islamists involved in this recent terror attack? Yet all native born UK citizens go through lengthy time consuming checks each and every time they travel. Why? Why is all this time and effort wasted when the wrong doers have origins in Pakistan,Yemen,Saudi Arabia etc?

The 911 attackers were Saudi Arabian. The London bombers had origins in the Indian sub continent. They might have been largely British born but were of Pakistani origin. And like it or not they were of the Muslim faith-radicalized to the extreme. object to being racially profiled but when the evidence shows who the perpetrators are and who they are not, isn't this an indication that certain communities within the UK need to be scrutinized more closely-it's hardly rocket science is it? The trend shows that the UK has radical Islamists within its own borders, rather than an outside attack, it will come from within.Unless the UK government recognizes this and adopts racial profiling then the UK see a repeat of the London bombings or a repeat of the recent events in Paris.......
