Why did they both hide where the bodies were buried? Only for sadistic reasons. And she called herself a Christian, evil woman. I hope he dies a long, lingering and painful death.

@ Maria

And she called herself a Christian, evil woman. I hope he dies a long, lingering and painful death.

Well, no chance of mistaking you for a Christian.

Over the years I've seen this mother on a few shows crying and holding her sons photo. I cry with her but I cannot fully appreciate her pain since I have never lost a child. I hope they are able to get the location of her son and she can finally bury him.

Maria, from what was revealed on the shows I've seen, these two (don't even know what to call them they are so disgusting) had buried their victims in the moors and taken photos of themselves at burial sites to memorialize what they have done. One little victems torture was audio recorded so they could replay it and re-live what they did. They felt their crimes were theirs and theirs alone. I would asume that is why they will not reveal the locations of their "special" places. All the victems that were recovered were located by the photos the police found. This boy was their first so no photo was ever taken.

Did I say anything about execution? The man's in his 70s, chances are good he'll die how I said he would, except that he'll have the benefit of hospital treatment and pain medication, which is more consideration than he gave his victims.

Hindley claimed to have found Christ, if you recall, and she had a highly-respected supporter in Longford - but she somehow couldn't find enough Christian spirit to tell the grieving parents where she had hidden their child's raped and tortured body, so that they could bury him.

These 2 people are undeserving of redemption, understanding or forgiveness of any kind. Tell me, lucabrasi, how they (have) lived their lives since imprisonment that shows they should be.

"These 2 people are undeserving of redemption, understanding or forgiveness of any kind."

I couldn't sum it up better.

These 2 people are undeserving of redemption, understanding or forgiveness of any kind.

Redemption is a religious thing. In my understanding, Christ made it abundantly clear that nobody was undeserving of it, whatever they'd done.

Understanding isn't something you choose to give or not. Either you feel it or you don't. And the object of your understanding can't, in that case "deserve" it or not.

Forgiveness isn't for you or me or anyone to decide on. It's up to the living relatives of the victims. If one of those relatives came forward and publicly declared their forgiveness, would you criticise them?

Cases like this are horrible and, obviously, arouse strong emotions in all of us. But controlling our emotions is what raises us above animal existence.

If Brady were to demand public forgiveness from the mother, in exchange for a map to the site where her son's body is, I'm sure she would give it, and I would totally understand. Understanding is something we can choose to give - understanding first requires information, and then to consider that information, leading to conclusions.

I think you actually know very little about this case, lucabrasi. I hope you read up on it.

If Brady were to demand public forgiveness from the mother

You can't demand forgiveness, surely that much is common sense.

I think you actually know very little about this case, lucabrasi. I hope you read up on it.

Wrong (and pretty patronising). I lived close to where the murders happened for a number of years, they were constantly in the news as I grew up, what with Lord Longford trying to get Hindley released and the visits to Saddleworth to try and identify the burial site. It's something well-known to all Brits of my generation.

Don't confuse disagreement with ignorance.

"But controlling our emotions is what raises us above animal existence."

Animals don't behave in the sick and sadistic manner of either Brady or Hindley.

Even Islamic terrorists with their lack of respect for human rights fail to achieve the up close and personal horrors enacted by child sex murderers.

I can't imagine the mother speaking words of forgiveness under any other circumstances, but I can imagine her need to bury her child overcoming her feelings about Brady, if he tried to strike a deal (pure speculation on my part and nothing more).

Fair enough, you know all about the case, and you consider that, according to the Christian faith, they are deserving of redemption. I disagree with you, I would not forgive them, and i don't think they deserve forgiveness, but certainly don't deny you the right to objectively forgive them. I can even understand why you think so.

Brady may well agree with you - given how he is fighting for his right to die, he must not fear the afterlife. Or, like me, he doesn't think he'll need to atone for his sins, let alone be forgiven for them.

I hope he does one right thing before he dies.

At least we can agree on that :)

Sick, twisted scum. I hope the mother can finally lay her child's bones to rest, and that these scumbags never, ever see the light of day again.

I think the most interesting part about this article, is this:

Brady disclosed the whereabouts of 12-year-old Keith Bennett, the only body never found, to a long-term visitor to the psychiatric hospital where he is serving his life sentence, reports said. A 49-year-old woman had been arrested in South Wales on suspicion of preventing the burial of a body without lawful exercise, according to reports, citing police. The reports did not specify whether the woman and the visitor at the hospital were the same person.

Who is this woman??, and why didn't she go straight to the police when she heard where the body was???

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Who is this woman??

Probably one of those women who fall for prison inmates, write them letters, write them fan mail, send them presents, occasionally marry them...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Or, less cynically, the following is from the Manchester Evening News website:

(This would explain why he wrote to the mother saying that he wanted to be moved to a prison in Scotland where he could die. If she supported this move (she is against it) he dies, she gets the letter, she finds her son's body.)

"..Last night it emerged that Brady, 74, has written to one of his long-term visitors finally giving up his 48 year secret of where Keith's grave is located.

The letter is thought to be part of documents sent to a member of his legal team.

It is believed the individual who received the letter claims it pinpoints the exact location of where Brady and Myra Hindley buried the 12-year-old after snatching and killing him in 1964.

Police have not yet seen the contents of the letter.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested as part of the police inquiries.

And the MEN can reveal that officers are searching her home in Wales and Brady's cell at Ashworth psychiatric prison in Merseyside.

Jackie Powell, who was appointed the murderer's legal advocate under the Mental Health Act in 1999, said yesterday: "I received a letter and a sealed envelope which said on the front 'to be opened in the event of my death'.

"He says he doesn't wish to take his secrets to the grave and within the sealed envelope is a letter to Winnie Johnson..."

"Within that is the means of her possibly being able to rest."

Oh, you mean "idiots" then?

Brief, but accurate, Probie!

"Oh, you mean "idiots" then?"

Heh, what's truly amazing is the amount of such idiots. Even Carlos the Jackal has got one.

That sick bstrd did not disclose the location at all. He intended to keep it secret until the day he died by handing a sealed letter to his counsel, who has in turn been arrested for withholding the burial of a deceased body. He is so sick he did not even have the decency to disclose the location to the mother of the deceased child, who is dying of cancer and who has been trying for years to find out the location before she passed away. Brady did not disclose the location, the police just found out by themsleves.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Redemption is a religious thing. In my understanding, Christ made it abundantly clear that nobody was undeserving of it, whatever they'd done.

The Christian concept is you can be forgiven... if you stop doing the evil and you repent. By keeping the secret about the hidden body, the murderess did neither, she prolongated the crime, she kept torturing the family of the kid. .

Maria et al

Hindley died in prison after being there for 36 years. Brady has been locked up for 46 years so far. That is the best punishment for them. Do you really think one minute hanging by the neck is worse than being confined for so long? They locked them up and basically threw away the key. That is how it should be done for such heinous crimes. The death penalty is the easy way out.

" That is how it should be done for such heinous crimes. The death penalty is the easy way out."

Perhaps you're right, but making them suffer languishing in gaol costs heinous amounts to the taxpayer. The death penalty is pretty barbaric, but cases like this where there is no doubt then I'd rather they hang than pay large amounts to keep them alive in misery.

Madverts

The cost factor is very debatable. Appeals on death row with all the legal factors add up to big bickies. Not as simple or as clear-cut as some may think.

http://www.prisonreformtrust.org.uk/uploads/documents/prisonbriefingsmall.pdf

"Each new prison place costs £170,000 to build and maintain, and the cost per prisoner per year is £45,000."

These are 2010 figures for your average prisoner, staggering as they may seem. For celebrity nuts like Brady living in special conditions the annual cost of holding one patient runs to the tune of up to 300 grand per annum.

Personally I find spending that kind of money to keep this creature alive staggering.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

" He should be kept at the hospital until the day he dies."

Since that is what will happen, there should be a public forum opened as to how to cut down the cost of his incarceration. I could get that down to ten grand a year in a snap.

Zichi,

I'm a British citizen :)

I'm not usually an advocate of the death penalty either - however, I believe in circumstances such as these that exceptions should be made. The 300k claim actually comes from Brady's lawyer, Richard Nicholas. Since Ashworth Prison Hospital chiefs declined to confirm the amount, I imagine it's not off the mark.

http://news.sky.com/story/734274/brady-youve-wasted-3m-keeping-me-alive

I'd even support water-boarding this bastard if it would help Winnie Johnson find her son's remains before she dies.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Brady wants to die so I'm happy to keep him alive

Very gracious of you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"The moors and peat are constantly moving and it would be impossible for him to find the grave of that child."

I think you're more than likely right on all counts. Even if the geography were stable, this man buried his victims in the sixties. That coupled with the drugs he'll have also been force fed too courtesy of the British taxpayer, I would imagine his memory won't be too sharp.

I've never understood the criminals that have a perversion for returning to the scene of their monstrosities. I can imagine this is the only reason he is keeping the flame alight.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, in my younger days we used to cross the Moors sometimes to go clubbing from the North East to Manchester. We were always freaked out on the way back past the Moors on the M62, knowing what went on up there.....

It has to be one of the most shocking crimes in UK history.

@zichi

They kidnapped, sexually tortured and murdered 5 young children.

I know that.

But will keeping Brady alive, which obviously gratifies your taste for revenge (although you're not even a victim in any way), achieve anything worthwhile? Will the children be magically restored to life?

Winnie Johnson died this morning the poor bugger....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

May she rest in peace.

I wonder how long this mental health care worker has had a hold of that letter?

"I wonder how long this mental health care worker has had a hold of that letter?"

Following Zichi's link she claims to have returned it to Brady some time ago.

The family, notably the brother of the murdered Keith, wish to continue the search.

I think it is time to let go - mostly for them, but also for that bastard Brady who is feeding off this.
