Why do men do this! We know its against the law! Prominent people sometimes. Many with children of their own. Don't they have empathy? I don't get it. Even if the girl is 17 looking every bit of 20 (they don't look much older). Unless he is 18-19. Absolutely unforgivable.

If only the arrests would roll around the world.....

MarkG: if the law authorized it, would that be OK. Law or not, this morally wrong, point.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@MarkG It is also women who do this and they are most likely to get away with at as they attract less suspicion.. These types are attracted to places where they can abuse kids. Day care, Kindergartens are their new favourite places. Good places for them to abuse and take images with victims too young to understand what is going on. This is widespread and getting worse in all countries.

Men and women who do this need to be taken away from society if experts decide they are a danger, and by that i mean some should be locked away untl they can present no danger at all.

TumbleDry: I was in no means suggesting lynch mob. Official arrests yes. Often hard drive searched link others pervs.

Socially, we all can share our views and tolerance.

@MarkG. The age of consent in the UK is 16. Having consensual sex with a 17 year old is perfectly legal. And yes, there are women paedophiles too.

660 represents what law refers to as the 2%. 2% of this crap is all anyone can respond to in one lifetime!

Pedophilia is a criminal act according to the American Legal system. However in the mental health profession we define it as a mental disorder and is considered to be a paraphilia which is a group of disorders defined by abnormal sexual activity. As such, it is important for people with this illness to seek professional help. Pedophiles rarely seek treatment on their own. Most treatment is court ordered. Seeking help from a professional psychologist or psychiatrist will help you understand yourself and your disorder and will help you over the Pedophilia and better your way of life. Unfortunately there are misconceptions about mental illnesses. We should never judge a human being or make them feel inferior for having a mental disorder and treat them with respect and dignity. Be grateful you don't suffer from any mental illness.

I know women pedophiles exist. It is overwhelmingly men though.

The consensual age is antiquated. Of similar age I am okay with it is large age gap of some of the perverts. I think its 14 in Kentucky!

The NCA stressed that none of those arrested in the operation is a serving or former lawmaker or member of the government.

They look after their own...

My question is, when will they start doing the same in Japan? If anyone thinks this country is pedophile free, you are really sadly mistaken.

Well done, UK police. Now for the politicians Norman Tebbit alluded to...

gives the lie to those who seem to think that paedophilia is a Japanese perversion (although agreed it is far more public and kind of accepted and socialised here). I wonder why they couldn't find just 6 more paedos - the headline Police arresr 666 would have been even more striking

NovenachamaJul. 17, 2014 - 08:43AM JST Pedophilia is a criminal act according to the American Legal system. The problem is that little crack in the confidentiality clause with psychologists, "risk of harm to self or others". In many states in the U.S. they've inserted a crowbar into that crack and widened it to the point where all pedophiles are regarded as high risk (even though the research doesn't support this), and so psychologists in many states are required to report and hand over their files the moment someone with pedophillic tendencies goes for therapy, and in many states this evidence is sufficient for registration on the sex offender's registry, even if it falls very far short of the requirement for a criminal conviction.

On the other hand countries like Germany have programs in place that are completely anonymous and that reach out those with pedophillic tendencies, and that are producing excellent results. They're also producing a lot of data about how prevalent pedophilia really is, and it is a lot more common than previously suspected (about 10 times more common than homosexuality), and affects men and women fairly equally.

Of course the entire debate is academic in Japan, where mental health care is a joke even for the most serious disorders, never mind community outreach programs and other progressive models.

660? Blimey. That's good work by the police, but I fear this is only the tip of the iceberg. I seriously cannot understand how paedophilia (That's the correct spelling btw) came about, or why it seems to be on the rise, all I know is that it needs to stop. It's beyond disgraceful, and yet, for whatever reason, it happens. Paedophiles need to be locked up and removed from society. They don't deserve to be a part of it. They gave up that right when they started fantasizing about molesting children.

This is ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!! Do you all really think there are only 600 sickos in the UK?? Go to Thailand etc...and a 17 year old boy or girl is kind of over the hill for all the sexual exploiters there both THAI and from all over the WORLD. But good on the UK police, you have to start somewhere!

Quote: "in a six-month operation targeting people watching indecent images online"... Huh? "Indecent"?

So the NCA monitors web viewing? What if you are flicking around and suddenly sickening images that you do not want to see appear? Yuck, what is this website? You recoil and exit hastily. Would that already have put you on a paedophile list somewhere?

Do their computers distinguish between 'seeing' and 'watching', I wonder?

Years ago in London I heard rumors/rumours of a large network of highly-placed people being involved in such activity, but in this case the police make it clear that it does not involve "serving or former lawmakers or members of the government". That in itself sounds odd to me.

Over the last passed few years since Mr. J Seville died a lot has come to the surface about his activities in hospitals, and some of his mates most have been questioned by the police and some have gone to jail, (good) but, a few weeks ago we was asked to do some work at a school for some builders, and we was talking about, how careful us workers have to be on school sites, ( and rightly so)the foreman told me that the other week he was asked to go to another school where he was in charge of, as a dinner lady was making allegation’s, the allegation’s were that the construction worker who was behind a 6 foot high metal mesh screen with a 6 foot gap between him and the screen, quote “was talking to one of the children” well, if any knows children they are inquisitive, and with big diggers on a building site boys are fascinated and want to talk! Like “what’s your name mister?” “what you doing” etc etc, we all can see that it was total over reaction to an innocent situation, I suppose what I am trying to say is the UK has become not just sensitive but super sensitive to any thing to do with adults and children.

@nandakandamanda. Where have you been? Authorities have been looking at your computer and phone use for a long time. As possessing child pornography is illegal in the UK they are going to track and watch those that go to these sites, stuff is often shared and networks formed - you find one paedophile and it leads you to many more. 'Indecent' is a legal term covering all manner of sexual assaults and images - not just ones considered pornographic.

A very important matter. The native Americans had a saying, that we should not judge someone until we have walked a mile in their moccasins. In this case, I think I do not want to understand what child molesters are feeling, it is bad enough that I can imagine what they are feeling. Sexual attraction by a mature adult for an immature child should not be encouraged, as the results are likely to be traumatic for the child. It is the duty of adults to protect children, not destroy them.

Well done to the UK police. 600 is just tip of the iceberg. For everyone one caught there is probably still many more out there. Child abuse has been a big issue in the UK with the Jimmy Saville revelations and Muslim gangs but at least they doing something. I wished the Japanese police would do start doing the same thing.

@MarkG - Of similar age I am okay with it is large age gap of some of the perverts.

Thailand is bad in this regard. There are a lot of 40-80 year old white tourists with their teenage "girlfriends". Very sad.
