Say what you want about Japan, but at least you won’t get arrested for not wearing a mask!

...not YET anyway!

According to reports, Glynn delivered a rant in court -- in which he described the proceedings as "preposterous" and "disgusting" -- and said masks were not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Mental illness is a common trait amongst the mask and vaccine deniers. I hope his family gets him treated once back in the UK.

Good job Singapore, and kick out him. We also need it here in Japan.

Disgusting indivudual. Good for Singapore. Hope he is deported and prevented from ever entering Singapore again.

He was arrested weeks before he was due to return to Britain for a new job.

I hope so much his new company finds out about this, and the trash is prevented from employment in tbe UK.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

What a loser! We are all guests in our adopted countries and need to obey the local rules.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Good riddance. I saw the story on this pillock when it first broke.

The only trouble is that he's been deported, which means some village in the UK is going to get its idiot back.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Just FYI for those who don't know he declares himself as a sovereign citizen.

Not much doubt about that, Google his name and you'll see that he's all over the news everywhere including the UK.

This is precisely the sort of shameless behavior that the cane is good at deterring. Unfortunately Singapore has gone soft in recent decades.

There have been some famous court cases in history where men and women of principle have had enough of injustice and stood on trial for their life and freedom.

This is the conspiracy theorist version - hysterical idiot won’t put a mask on.

This prompted the judge to order a psychiatric assessment, but Glynn was deemed fit enough for the case to continue.

The best part is that the judge ordered a mental evaluation. That was absolutely spot on.

Quite deserving.

Singapore is a totalitarian nation where anything can get you jailed and/or beat up. This fool should be glad to be kicked out.

Quite deserving.

He got what he asked for, but if he pulls this stunt at home he should be busted there too.

Wow, the fear-mongering authoritarians are out in force this morning. Masks have very little effect, especially outdoors. If they were so effective, why are cases spreading so fast in places with mask mandates?

That's irrelevant. He broke the law.

I know that the "mah freedumbz" people insist on shoe-horning their Facebook Conspiracy Theories into every possible conversation, even if it's about something totally unrelated, but let me walk you through it nice and slowly so you can grasp it.

1) The man was in Singapore.

2) Singapore has determined that masks should be worn.

3) The man did not wear a mask, and was also a public nuisance.

4) The man was arrested.

If you run into any trouble between step 1 and step 4, find an adult and ask them for help.

Does that even matter? When you're a guest in someone else's country you follow the rules whether you agree with them or not. You don't blatantly defy them and taunt the police.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

You can't even chew gum in Singapore and this nimrod thought he could waltz about "being Sovereign".

I think he said he has lost his job.

Unsurprisingly.

He also complained about not being able to leave Singapore and meet his family.

Seems that problem will be sorted for him too.

Although I can imagine a frosty reception from his wife as he tries to explain why he has destroyed their livelihoods

Do you think there should be a ‘Benjamin Glynn Day’ for his proud and brave stand against the authoritarians?

Make it a public holiday.

Embarrassing. Many Brits abroad act obnoxious and belligerently.

True.

I think the walls deservedly closed in on this moron though.

Seems this man was confused in thinking he was still in Briton, not Singapore.

Would have loved to see him caned for stupidity. A few welts on his behind and difficulty sitting for a week would be fine memories. Bet the flight home with a little turbulence would be funny for others on the plane to watch. He's have a great story for the pub.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This is not the first 'Ang mo' to get into trouble in SG.

Michael Peter Fay got caned as a teen for vandalizing cars by spray painting graffiti and it required the intervention of then US President Bill Clinton to get the number of strokes of cane reduced to 4 from 6.

SG might seem like a typical modern cosmopolitan city on the surface but many freedom loving 'ang mo' Westerners soon get a reality check if they think they can behave like they used to back home.

Briton handed jail term in Singapore for not wearing mask :

Briton or not, or for that matter whoever one is, one has to observe the rules of law in one's resident country or visit..

4 ( +4 / -0 )

rom the latest updates he'll also get deported ASAP.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Their country, their rules. If you don't like their rules, then go somewhere else. It's that simple.

Ah, "deniers". Where do we know that term from? Yep, religious fanatics.

NB: I am not excusing the guy.... it is Singapores laws, and he knew them, regardless of how stupid they are.

But talking about mental illness.... I would think the fanatical devotion to authority comes close to that.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

In public? Actually it says he was on a train. Even in London you’ll be required to wear a mask on public transport. Sounds arrogant. Glad the authorities felt free to teach him a short sharp lesson.

I was caned frequently at school, and not much the worse for wear!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Many would rather choke on their mask though they can't breathe, for fear of catching something that the mask can't block anyway.

Sigh.

How many times do we have to go through this?

Masks are worn to help prevent spread, not to protect the wearer.

Man up. Do your bit for others.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

A certain highly respected scientist who spent some time in S. described them

as "cheerful North Korea".

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@cracaphat

You did know that masks are worn for the benefit of others rather than protecting yourself, didn’t you?

I just don’t get your ‘wussification’ idea.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Let's not forget that the ratio of mask pore size to virus size is close to the ratio of window size to mosquito size.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Chris Ghaar

Let's not forget that the ratio of mask pore size to virus size is close to the ratio of window size to mosquito size.

Yeah, that has been explained many times, but seems to be ignored by the lamestream media. However, it is reasonable that these non-professional masks have a minuscule effect by diffusing breath in several directions. It probably makes a tiny difference overall. However, there are also large negatives for breathing through masks for a long time.... CO2 accumulation, more effort in breathing, breathing in particles, etc etc. Forcing these things on children is child abuse.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

You did know that masks are worn for the benefit of others rather than protecting yourself, didn’t you?

I know.Though many wear it as in more for protecting themselves.

It was just the ‘wussification’ idea. I get a bit annoyed with this nonsense. I remember my sister taking care of my vulnerable elderly mother and blowing her top last year at people not wearing masks around her.

Morons.

The ‘wussification’ nonsense is unhelpful.

Predictable, lockstep, garden-variety alternative media opinion.

I’ve never come across a group so uniform in their thinking. Totalitarians around the world would give their right arm for this kind of uniformity.

Say what you want about Japan, but at least you won’t get arrested for not wearing a mask!

I'd guess that you wouldn't get arrested for that in Singapore either if you put on a mask when asked.

There's your wussification. The idea that wearing a mask is child abuse is as stupid as most anything I've heard. It's only due to humanity banding up as society in groups to protect the weak that has allowed people this stupid to survive and not be eaten by animals.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This guy's behavior would have made him an a$$hole in his own country. Glad to see it got him arrested in another. Keep him away from the rest of everyone else for as long as you can.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Singaporeans have a democracy and they have decided that their govt will have more powers over many personal things than most other "free" counties.

When visiting SG, I accept that fact and behave accordingly, which isn't hard. We have a nice time there partially because this stance by the people and their govt, though I wish it wasn't so expensive and alcohol were cheaper. Their subway is very nice, BTW. The airport is nice too - every gate is "international".

In a Muslim country, I'd wear long pants at temples and mosques. It is polite.

In SG, wear a mask on the subway. It is polite.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In SG, wear a mask on the subway. It is polite.

At this point, it appears to be beyond just being polite, as they are arresting people.

So in SG, wear a mask, unless you are too stupid to realize that going to jail for not wearing a mask isn't a good reason to mail.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

However, it is reasonable that these non-professional masks have a minuscule effect by diffusing breath in several directions.

Right. Also, there could be one more effect: the virus particles form aggregates, which have somewhat larger sizes than a single virus. So, my conspiracy theory is that masks are "somewhat" useful.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

. If they were so effective, why are cases spreading so fast in places with mask mandates?

Easy answer. Look around at how many people refuse to wear a mask even when required. They are the ones spreading the virus, not the seeming minority who dutifully wear a mask.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Until each individual asks "what can I do every day to reduce the spread of the virus", this pandemic will not go away. Refusing to do all the things we all know (even as some outwardly deny it they know the truth in their hearts) are necessary each and every day to stop the spread of this virus, it will keep reproducing, mutating and continue to propigate through the population. If individuals refuse to use face masks, social distance and receive vaccines then they are dooming all of us years and years of needless suffering. Instead of arguing, ask what you can do to stop this disease from spreadomg.
