This is absolutely barbaric, and now Brunei joins the list of country's I wouldn't set foot in if they paid me. The big oil companies that operate there should take a stand against this outrage, too.

They call Islam a religion but any system of "thought" (cough) and belief that condones and encourages the death of certain people to "please" their god is nonsense! Had a wife's friend over who is a Filipina who is married to a Pakistani and who has converted to Islam and who has a gay son from a previous marriage and I asked her which is more important, religion or son, which gets ditched if they come for your son? She said her religion, bye son, "enjoy the stoning." And she lives in Dubai which still has crazy laws about sex--kiss on the beach, and you are deported. And remember, the American evangelicals are looking on with envy here.

The far more recent Gospel of John (also part of the Bible) does away with stoning for sexual offences. See John 8:1-11.

The Bible was not written all at one time. It was written over the space of a few thousand years. The Koran, on the other hand, doesn't work that way. It was written pretty much at the same time.

Homosexual behavior is still a sin in Judeo-Christian thought, and always will be. But the death penalty for it does not apply.

Only as a disciplinary practise -- not as a solemn moral teaching.

There is a difference between a moral teaching, which is eternal, and a disciplinary practise, which is always subject to change.

They shouldn’t, but polls on what people believe in countries which treat homosexuals disgustingly show that they aren’t necessarily out of step with public opinion. The majority of Brunei’s population are Malay Muslims, and Malaysia is a country, seen as a progressive democracy in the Muslim world, which whips and imprisons homosexuals.

Many of the nations that joined hands with Brunei in that TPP are looking pretty toothless right now. Some of these nations claim to believe in “human rights” and “democracy” - Australia, NZ, Canada etc. Some of them may whisper little protests, but ultimately will all just look the other way and continue dealing with this disgusting regime. Money trumps human rights.

I’m in two minds on a boycott even though I find these laws filthy. Where do you stop? As I pointed out, neighboring Malaysia whips and imprisons gays. Not extreme enough to warrant a boycott?

Tell Brunei to whip and throw their gays in jail instead of stoning them and they’ll be back in the acceptable books?

The inhabitants of these 'Strict Sharia Law' countries exhibit totally different behaviour when outside of their country. Just look at the Sukhumvit Soi 3/1 in Bangkok, also known as Soi Arab, close to the infamous Grace Hotel, their regular nightspot.

Arab Countries are quite weird in our view. Best stay clear of them unless you understand them, don't try to change them, and don't let them change you.

Some Countries give the Muslim world a bad name, and no wonder peoples in other Countries are afraid that Muslim migrants will try to change the local environment to match that of their own - with stories of Sharia Law being run as a Parallel law in places...

Religion and Politics never mix well.

If the Sharia Law targets Gays and Adulterers as enemies, then what of those from other faiths who have been at the receiving end of violence from such Radicals. Should Jewish people feel unsafe in Brunei ?

Brunei is yet another example of Malays struggling to move out of their peasant mentality and enter into the modern world. The selfish arrogance of a corrupted, sexually self-satisfied ruler devoid of empathy for his fellow men is also disgustingly on display for all the world to see if people dare to open their eyes.
