Welcome to stoning, beheading, amputation of limbs, whipping, different legal treatment of males and females, child marriages, death penalty for homophobia and apostesy, and all the other niceties of 7th century religious law in Brunei.

Meanwhile, Obama in neighbouring a Malaysia visited a mosque (but not a church or temple) and asked the imam to pray for him.

What a mad world.

Where's the outrage? Why have the usual hawks not already threatened to impose sanctions?

The sultan responded by ordering a halt to such criticism

Hahaha, he responded to the criticism of his policies by ordering them to stop criticising him. Gotta love backward societies.

What, anyone surprised? This my friends is a true theocracy. With (surprise surprise) Islam leading the way! And followers of Islam wonder why everyone with a brain looks down on this kind of religious zealotry. Human rights doesn't exist there, and never will unless you're muslim or a woman (supposedly). How many Islamic governed countries do non-muslims feel are safe to visit where they won't be arrested, assaulted, or persecuted for practicing basic human rights (like freedom of religion).

I think the sultan just gave brunei a black eye.

John Galt:

What outrage? Obama and the other Western leaders are actively supporting the islamists in Egypt, Liby, Tunesia, Syria, and around the world. Plus, Brunei has oil. What do you expect?

WilliB, yeah, I know. It was a rhetorical question. We all know the obvious reason, but the lapdog media is silent.
