Perhaps if the U.S.A. considered cutting down a bit on its massive military spending and "spy complex" it might be able to make the ends meet:

What we need to do is label the top members of the military-industrial complex as the thieves and enemies of the state they are, jail them, and then use the vast fortunes they stole from the taxpayers to repay the massive debts those thieves are responsible for creating. That includes certain current and former congressmen and lobbyists.

And if you don't understand what I am talking about you don't understand how much the U.S. overspends on the military. Literally, you tally up the amounts spent by every single country in the world, including China, France, Britain and Russia, every one, and America's spending is equal...to the entire rest of the planet. There is your trouble. That people cannot see this or accept it is a testament to the tremendous power of nationalistic denial.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

The most important question is whether House Speaker John "Where's my scotch?" Boehner can control the tea nuts in his own party.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Republicans: no honor. No shame.

Perhaps if the U.S.A. considered cutting down a bit on its massive military spending and "spy complex" it might be able to make the ends meet:

Says you! I want a strong military, how about cutting spending in areas like food stamps or foreign aid.

@control

If anyone needs to go to jail besides Congress, it's all the liberal moon bats that constantly and all too aggressively TAX the Bejeezus out of Americans. Sorry, but I will ask you again, what about the $17 Trillion debt that your president racked up, when do you think he might address it? The man is about to borrow another $700 Trillion from China and wants the debt ceiling to be raised without ANY limits. So if Obama spends our money into oblivion, it's ok??? Oh, I keep forgetting, the liberal loons give Obama a pass as usual. But Shhhhh....

And if you don't understand what I am talking about you don't understand how much the U.S. overspends on the military.

Ok, I think you can trim the military a bit, I'll agree to that, so how about foreign aid? That's about $23 Billion and 14 to train foreign military. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_foreign_aid

Why give money to countries that don't like us, Why give money to Egypt? Pakistan? Somalia??? I would say, cut the aid to all of them, let them feel the pinch. But more importantly, how about strengthening the private sector? Why pay and increase salary for government workers.

Literally, you tally up the amounts spent by every single country in the world, including China, France, Britain and Russia, every one, and America's spending is equal...to the entire rest of the planet. There is your trouble. That people cannot see this or accept it is a testament to the tremendous power of nationalistic denial.

So as I said, cut everyone off and you have a huge chunk of the problem solved.

@paul

The most important question is whether House Speaker John "Where's my scotch?" Boehner can control the tea nuts in his own party.

Do you think his majesty can control his mindless minions? Because as long as he doesn't put a lease on them, this ain't going nowhere.

@JT

How about, the President? Zero honor and doesn't even know what shame is. And then, there is Congress.... All of these guys need to get their walking papers.

@Bass, do you know or even realize how many war veterans are on FOOD STAMPS?? Living out of their cars?? Homeless etc..inside of the USA?? Not just Iraq war veterans but even before that?? How dare you go on about wanting a so called strong US military when everyone knows of ALL OF THE CORRUPTION going on!! $$$$!! This is what Washington DC is all about, yeah, give us a fresh young man, women, heck now if they are gay or lesbian cool, let them all go and die or wish they had died in stupid wars for OIL!!! I know the USA needs a good strong military but at the same time, only a fool would not ACCEPT that there is way too much corruption going on. The USA has way more than enough $$$$ to destroy whole countries like Iraq, Afghanistan etc..FOR WHAT??? While inside of the USA places like Detroit keep going down the drain! FOR SHAME!!

"Idiots (Tea Party Radicals) are kicking US off the cliff". quoted by Warren Buffet.

They have no shame. I think they should be treated as traitors and anarchists.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

it remained unclear if the Republican leadership’s measures could pass the chamber.

No leadership, no control.

“It boils down to conscience protections that basically become compromised on the 1st of January. That’s bothersome to a lot of people,” Republican congressman Steve Womack said after a meeting with House leadership.

They still don't get it. Isn't it just amazing? How does this happen? Oh, here's how, from Wikipedia: "The 3rd is one of the most Republican districts in the South and the nation (Republicans have held it since 1967), and it was generally believed whoever won the Republican primary would be the district's next congressman." No fear of losing to a Democrat can make some Republicans do some pretty crazy stuff.

...but this is all because Obama won't negotiate with him.

Don't make me laugh, you are living and working in America, but every time you get a chance, you trash it at every angle, now you tell me, "how dare I?" I'll say it again, yes, I DO want a strong military and NO, I am NOT a heartless person, but I think since the so called caring....liberals care so much, let's see the liberal networks devote more time to the veterans ANY of them besides FOX. The liberals cry out for the debt ceiling to be raised, they want conservatives to cut a lot, but you guys don't want to cut ANYTHING. And don't talk about corruption, the real corruption is that Obama and the Dems tried to ram this healthcare through as fast as possible wants everyone to sign up, acts as if the American people are stupid and don't know that this thing WILL sooner or later (hopefully sooner) collapse of its own weight. That's where your real corruption is, El.

This is what Washington DC is all about, yeah, give us a fresh young man, women, heck now if they are gay or lesbian cool, let them all go and die or wish they had died in stupid wars for OIL!!!

What are you talking about?

You may be surprised to learn that almost 50% of U.S. crude oil and petroleum products imports came from the Western Hemisphere (North, South, and Central America and the Caribbean including U.S. territories) during 2006. We imported only 16% of our crude oil and petroleum products from the Persian Gulf countries of Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates. During 2007, our five biggest suppliers of crude oil and petroleum products were: Canada (18.2%) Mexico (11.4%) Saudi Arabia (11.0%) Venezuela (10.1%) Nigeria (8.4%)

Again, what are you talking about?

I know the USA needs a good strong military but at the same time, only a fool would not ACCEPT that there is way too much corruption going on. The USA has way more than enough $$$$ to destroy whole countries like Iraq, Afghanistan etc..FOR WHAT???

No one is trying to destroy Afghanistan, stop reading Think Progress.

While inside of the USA places like Detroit keep going down the drain! FOR SHAME!!

You can blame the liberals for that, all of that in fact and guess what, California is next.

@Global

"Idiots (Tea Party Radicals) are kicking US off the cliff". quoted by Warren Buffet.

They have no shame. I think they should be treated as traitors and anarchists.

Taking Warren Buffet seriously is just as bad as taking Donald Trump seriously.

Hey, all your president has to do is try to curtail the spending and oh, yeah, how about for once addressing the $17 Trillion debt....HELLO?

Your President is basically saying, give me the keys to the car, "I don't know how to drive, but trust me, I'll learn...one day." Been down that road before.

@super

No leadership, no control.

When did Obama EVER show leadership, come on now!

They still don't get it. Isn't it just amazing? How does this happen?

I ask myself that every single day. As a matter of fact, I want congress to resign.

...but this is all because Obama won't negotiate with him.

That's another reason why he's taking a hit and it will get worse for the President.

Republican lawmakers can take another shot at removing an “Obamacare” provision known as the contraception mandate

Fascinating how the Tea Party moves from one demand to another. Since Cruz & Co. failed to defund Obamacare, they've called for (among other things) entitlement reform, tax reform, permanent tax cuts, approval of the Keystone Pipeline, restrictions on abortion, and now lifting the contraception mandate. Sarah Palin has even insinuated impeaching the president.

What these people want is not so relevant as what they have, i.e. Obama Derangement Syndrome. Negotiating with such zealots is impossible.

If you're going to take hostages, you'd better be clear about what you're asking for. I'll leave it up to Wolfpack, Lizz, and Bass to speak for the GOP and make its demands clear, right here on this thread. What do you want in return for allowing the government to be funded?

hmm, I thought long term residents living in Japan (not tourists) are required to sign up with the Japanese National Health Care. Well, the law are now changed?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

A recent article in the China Daily called into question if America is fit for its role as global leader given its recent military misadventures and putting world markets on edge due to a dysfunctional government system which can be held to ransom by tea-party saboteurs. Not too many, including myself, takes the China Daily too seriously but in this case maybe they are saying what many are thinking. After the Bush administration grotesquely vandalized the image of the US abroad many hoped Obama could stem the disdain. He may have done this to a point, but this is yet another blow to world confidence in the US.

No, the law didn't change, but my case is a little different, so I really don't have to worry about getting the JNHC.

@Bass4funk--Where in blue blazes do you think the money comes from for this supersized global military you want so badly???

Sorry, but I will ask you again, what about the $17 Trillion debt that your president racked up, when do you think he might address it? I don't know who those people may be, but I would put Obama in the same cell with Bush jr. and Dick Cheney. Not only the for the debt, but also for the drones and the wars that sucked money out of us and falsely appeared to validate the military spending.

What Ted Cruz is doing to shut down the government is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Someone has to take this case seriously to stop this. Sounds like they are ready to kick a can down to the road again instead of finding the real solution. Let's stop Tea Party!!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@control

Where in blue blazes do you think the money comes from for this supersized global military you want so badly???

Of course, the tax payer, so then if you know our tax dollars funding our huge so called "super sized military" and we are all ready over burden, even if we slash the military budget in half, there is NO WAY that the US can cover the medical costs of 350 million people! Ever heard of the Spruce goose?

So what's the difference between Tea Party scum and progressive liberal moonbats??

@Bassfunk,

You need to rethink this--the MIA is a major contributor to the US debt. The US could cut cut it's military spending by 30% and still be "strong". Think --spend smart. I know you will thumb me down for this, but I often give you "thumbs up" for comments on other topics (even though they are unwelcome by most).

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Boehner is going to be backed into a corner and forced to a floor vote no matter what the right wing thinks. That nobody in right wing sees this coming is just weird. Guess fanatics of any stripe can't see the forest for the trees.

You are gonna love this. See, I read Redstate, so you don't have to. Here is the best line today:

Listen, pal. Let me explain something to you. What the Tea Party has done is spawned some of the great Americans who are speaking truth to the masses. People like Sarah Palin. Go read her Facebook updates and try to tell me with a straight face that she isn't winning hearts and minds. She has millions of followers who look to her to articulate a vision and provide clarity to a movement. This movement is going places. Once we clear out the driftwood in the House and bring in more people who share this vision, the old, dead, RINO GOP guard will be gone. It may take time, but the winning of elections is coming. Mark my words.

If we can convince more Republicans follow this advice, then 2014 will be a year of rainbows and magic ponies for me and my fellow Democrats

Oh, I agree, I have said before, I think there are many areas in the military where we could cut back, have NO problem with that. My problem is, is that most liberals would rather us NOT to have a military and be more like the Swiss and have it castrated. I think that it's totally absurd.

Boehner is going to be backed into a corner and forced to a floor vote no matter what the right wing thinks. That nobody in right wing sees this coming is just weird. Guess fanatics of any stripe can't see the forest for the trees.

Sorry, at this point, Boehner is not backed, because if they did, Obama would have an unlimited increase in the debt ceiling and full funding for this crappy monstrosity, that hasn't happened, so while you might wallow in that, sadly this is not the case. Had Obama and the Dems not carried on like greedy pigs, this would have never happened.

@JT

If we can convince more Republicans follow this advice, then 2014 will be a year of rainbows and magic ponies for me and my fellow Democrats

What I love about Liberals is that, you guys suffer too much from Kanye fever. Thinking that you are all geniuses and that the cat is in the bag and you practically invented the universe. If you think 2014 is a shoe in, you're a bad gambler.

Well, the deal is done:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24557469

Sanity prevailed.

Perhaps the US could look to Greece to see how they treat out of control, racist, screaming right-wing ideologues. And in light of Greece's status, that shouldn't be being said about the great United States of America.

Rafael Cruz throws in the towel. "Cruz will vote against deal but won't delay because "the timing has no impact on the outcome."

But Rafael, born in Canada to an American mother and a foreigner father, claims he is winning.

Yeah, he is.

Just like Charlie Sheen.

Seriously, folks, things are looking better and better for 2014. These idiots just won't learn.

What a crock of horse....! It's because of their Ueber-liberalized socialist Entitlement system is what brought Greece down and then they needed a bailout, you honestly think people are THAT naive??? Greece is THE perfect example as to why not allow this constant maddening borrowing to keep going.

An addled, ranting entity that nobody has any time for yet somehow still remains in the public eye. For now.

For now? Sheen is as popular as ever. lol Love it and the TV execs thought, we heard the last of him.

Be careful what you wish for. "Winning."

Hey, once you outspend the money as always liberals can do, people will realize just how insane you guys are, I feel like maybe it's not a bad idea to concede in all honesty, let you guys own it, do nothing and watch while eating popcorn how you guys slowly tighten that noose around yourselves.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

@bass4funk

I p.o. both "liberals" and "conservatives"...Anyway where would you cut back the US budget? Farm subsidies? Military? Entitlements--which ones specifically? There is a lot of pork spending for both blue and red states...The red states on the whole get more federal money than they pay in BTW (especially Mississippi, Alabama, Montana & Alaska).
