I always get a little antsy when I see a lot of snow on top of some of these old and flimsy-looking buildings. RIP to the victims of this seemingly preventable tragedy.

Korean construction is infamous for shoddy work, so no surprise here! RIP??

Shoddy construction exists everywhere in the world - and it was severe snow that bought this building not necessarily shoddy construction. Any news story about Korea is not an opportunity to vent your racial bigotry thanks.

I hope there are more survivors found soon.

Tragic. I really do hope it is not because of shoddy construction. Brings back memories of Sampoong Department Store, not to mention Songsu Bridge.

Wow, you must really love Korea, remembering some of the events that happened about 20 years ago. I guess there are no shoddy constructions in Japan, where people die due to natural disaster.

Ok, this time it seems it was heavy snow, but South Korea does not have a good track record of building proper buildings, bridges etc..this is NOT any racial bias, this is not wanting to end up dead in some crappy building, bridge in Korea etc..I am not pro or anti Korea, but I have enough Korean friends and they tell me of many horror stories of the bad construction in their country.

Korean construction is infamous for shoddy work, so no surprise here! RIP?? By the way, it was a pre-fab assembly building imported from the US. So it was essentially an American made building.

already many in the kroean press are blaming this on shoddy construction, so it's not just "gaijin" that are saying it. japan has a lot of shoddy houses, too, but you NEVER hear about buildings/bridges collapsing like you do in SK.

Not really, but it was the deadliest building collapse until 911 happened. The news made headlines around the world and has been featured on BBC programs. Corruption is deeply ingrained in the construction industry although I trust things have gotten better compared with 20 years ago.

Sound waves from those 560 must've triggered the roof to collapse? R.I.P

@igloobuyer i agree with you shoddy construction can be found anywhere Again Elbuda Mexicano makes some of the most insane post and believe it or not he eventually corrects himself after posting dude should think before he post but that would be asking too much

Dozens of dead throughout Japan due to collapsed buildings this week due to snow. And in one Japanese airport, an entire garage where an airplane was parked in, the whole structure collapsed in and flattening the plane inside it.

Indeed BurakuminDes. Some people just can't resist this opportunity to rub salt into the wounds to declare how much superior Japan is. What about that young Korean ex-marine, who went back into the collapsed building after escaping, to help the trapped people inside who were screaming for help? His body was found by the rescuers. He didn't have to sacrifice himself but he died trying to make a difference. RIP to the victims.
