It appears from his speech that he is not neglecting whole Asia but Japan only.

Where will bush go in asia? is Japan off his list?

Ah yes.... Japan ! The neglected child ! Begs the question... just why should the President of the United States bother with Japan ? Obviously it's a failing society, unable to keep up with changing times and a vastly different philosophy of how to deal with North Korea (through starvation and nagging). Throw in the ongoing economic turmoil like the finger pointing of the US subprime concerns, Japans closed markets, or the American beef issue, and well... Japan doesn't exactly act like a first rate ally now does it. Once again "Japan Passing" is in vogue... and I have no qualms about it... let Japan wallow in its own selfishness for a few more years... then I'll start brushing up on my Chinese !

Japan should feel relieved that bush isn't coming because when he does, it will be with hat in hand.

Taka: "Japan should feel relieved that bush isn't coming because when he does, it will be with hat in hand."

Gotta disagree with you there; Japan is the one country that DESERVES bush for punishment as much as the idiots who voted him in. Japan is as much a lapdog to bush in particular, and probably the only country in the world that would rather see him continue than disappear. Other countries, in particular China, I agree with you 100%.

“Our foreign policy has been robust in the Far East,”

I think he means that the Americans sold the Japanese lots of those funny little machines for fingerprinting gaijin at airports.

He had been in Japan just few seconds ago ,during G-8.

The President of the United States doesn't have to visit again a country he just visited if it happens to be a rock solid alliance. There's no point in spreading the American agenda where it's not necessary to do so. The Secret Service better be on it's toes in South Korea.

Bush was just here for the G-8 summit and I didn't see him holding a hat.

“I will also remind people that I will be sprinting to the finish, that I will finish this job strong,” he said.

Whatever, George.

Huh?

“Our foreign policy has been robust in the Far East,” Bush said in White House interviews with editors from Thailand, South Korea and China. The U.S. president, on a farewell tour of Asia, will visit the three countries Aug 5-11.

While in Thailand, he is to deliver a “comprehensive” policy speech on Asia stressing that the United States has strategic interests in the region and “must stay engaged,” Thailand’s English-language The Nation said Friday.

Again, where in this article does it say that Japan complained about being neglected? Thailand press was the ones who should be ashamed of themselves for complaining about being neglected (and to a lesser extent, China and South Korea).

Please read, before posting! Stay focused and on topic.

To add: I fail to spot one quote from a Japanese source in this article. There are quotes from a THAILAND source, but that's it. Period.

Once again, comprehension issues for freakashow.

"Again, where in this article does it say that Japan complained about being neglected?"

And where does my post,

"Ah yes.... Japan ! The neglected child ! Begs the question... just why should the President of the United States bother with Japan ?"

say that Japan has complained ??? Freakashow... so quick to defend Japan's fragile psyche are we ? A bit too late for that. I'm all in support of the US bypassing Japanese waters till the issues I mentioned before are dealt with properly. Funny though, as Japans importance in the region continues to spiral downward, they still can't find their voice... and it's Thailand that has to do their beggin' for them. Too funny ! Obviously Japan is not the regional dynamo they think they are. I mean shouldn't it be Japan speaking out for Thailand ... and not vice versa ???

And where in my post did I say "I defend Japan"? So quick to say anything negative about Japan. At least you are consistent about that. Never have you been fair and said one good thing about Japan, or Japanese people. Where I come from, that is blatant racism. Personifying the "Ugly American" is not something that you should be proud of.

It is so convenient for you to go off topic by mentioning things like "finger pointing of the US subprime concerns" and "the American beef issue" when this article clearly is concerned about the U.S.'s role in combatting terrorism.

Which by the way is quite ironic. Why is it that Bush continues to concern himself with Iraq, which has proven to contain no WMDs and has cost us billions upon billions of dollars, while North Korea has flaunted it's nuclear program and continues to do so in the World community's face?

I'm so sure the thousands of North Koreans constantly trying to flee its own country would be so glad to be liberated from their Dear Leader.

The mans got only a few months left in office, so why should ahybody take any notice of anything he says or does? This is not a US government trip, this is a Bush business trip. Hey the mans got to earn a living after he's out of the white house. Japan's a done deal, no point going back, but maybe there are a few contracts that need signing else where.

Would you buy a second hand car from that man?

Why should asia feel neglected? Does somebody want to be invaded?
