Daddy was a war hero not a second Bush. Daddy spoiled Bush junior. He avoided the draft during Vietnam war. During his safe & comfortable national guard service, he was absent from his duties without leave. He betrayed his uniform & colleagues. If second Bush will be honoured like a first one, it will be a joke.

Maybe a little dinghy that floats behind with cable attached can be named after Junior. You'd have to pump it full of holes first, though.

At that time, all young men who were fit & well needed to serve for war. According the miltary record, Bush did not lack any service. He served in the national guard service instead of front line. His fault was absence without leaves during that service. If somone else, he was entitled for military punishment. Bush was not because he Daddy was a powerful congress man.

Smithjapan

At that time, Jeff Bush was not born yet. Daddy & Son had same name. So George Walker Bush was only Bush Junior. For the courtesy, we called elder as Bush Senior, younger Bush as Bush Junior. You want me to pump the holes I have no drill machine for that. Anyway, George W Bush is a fraud. He betrayed the arm forces for his absence. For some other nations, absence without leave during the war was entitled for capital punishment. He was a lucky one. Even he was rewarded for shorterning the term of his service.

"he ( GWB ) was absent from his duties without leave"

You can't prove that he was AWOL because he wasn't.

I hear the ship that will be named after the current 'president' will be called The USS GWB Total Failure. :-)

“Laura and I are thrilled to be here to help commission an awesome ship and to honor an awesome man,” Bush said.

Pity that same can't be said about himself.

Nice ship though!

Nippon5 - "You dont always have to be just a lonely hater guy."

You're right. We wouldn't want to take any tips off GWB.

It would be good to see a list of anything GWB has actually done right for America, especially to justify the building of any form of floating vessel bearing his name.

"Are we basing what we deserve on ones contribution to the Military? Society?"

Supposed to be "Are we bashing"

Of course we are! We did not cheat & excerragerate. We did not betray colleagues, employer, nation & society trust. We took personal responsibilities for failed acion. Bush junior favourite air craft carrier have a slogan "Mission accomplished". It was displayed in 2003.

I am not a lonely hater as you think. There are billions want to give him a farewell kiss. With a flying object! It will be enough for building a new aircraft career.

Rumor has it that the Navy has a plan to name a ship after W. as well. Based on the U.S. economy and the U.S.'s international standing, they'll name a submarine that never comes up the USS george w. bush.

You can't prove that he was AWOL...

And you cannot prove he wasn't. An intelligent person would ask why that is.

Too bad his fellow crew members did not survive, the pilot was supposed to allow them to leave before bailing it out himself, "an Avenger pilot had two choices: Set the plane down in the water or hold it steady until the two crewmen could prepare to jump. "

sarge: "You can't prove that he was AWOL because he wasn't."

I believe when people tried to prove he was the records suddenly, and magically, 'disappeared', no? They tried to get his flight logs, etc. for when he supposedly skipped out on flight duty for drunken revelry and the records went up in smoke.

Anyway, as Taka said, you cannot prove he was not AWOL. What's more, we CAN prove he never fought a day in his life, but started to wars and wanted to be the war president.

Compared to his son, Bush Sr. is indeed an awesome man; but that's much like comparing a sewer full of waste to what's in a toilet before flushing -- having neither is better.

Besides, junior is already going to have a waste recycling center named after him in San Francisco, isn't he?

Athletes..

Basing was the word I wanted to use. An honor is being given to a former President and people just want ot bash on his son for any reason. Thats what being a hater is. excerragerate ? What is this? Please explain that word.

As far as Sushi Saki.. I guess the future will tell us if anything he did is notable enough to build anything in his name. But he has done things that have been considered right to most people of the US at some times considering he had a very good approval rating when he took office and maintained it for quite awhile.

Actually Smith and Taka you can prove he wasnt AWOL, if he had been officially AWOL he would have the DH on his DD214, or in his record (hard copy)would be a mention of the Awol.

It also seems Sr had the highest approval rating at one time of any president. (it was at 89% which leads me to believe that he may have had both parties liking him.) He finished his term at a rating of 29%. Makes me wonder why Smith talks about SR like he was a horrid president considering he had ratings that matched Clinton, Carter, and others when he departed as president.

Some of the things the first Bush did that are very note worthy are, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990/ Clean Air Act /Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), and other note worthy items.

Thank you for saying we 'CAN' prove it, even though I think you meant "can't". Actually, though, as I said in my post, which I guess you didn't read, his records magically disappeared when they were being investigated.

I stand by every word I've said, save my misinterpretation of Nippon5's comment, which I'm now clear on (you can prove he was AWOL... got it!). Bush senior got a nice lookin' boat named after him, and his sun deserves the same, but instead of a boat it should be toilet paper.

Moderator: Readers, whether George W Bush was or was not AWOL is not relevant to this discussion.

Sorry for my incorrect spelling. It was an exergerated. Instead of Bush junior name, it would be air craft carrier named as "mission not accomplished".

He lost the trust & respect from public. Once the trustworthiness was lost, it will never come back. No wonder his approval rating was so low.

He is touch & arrogant however who has never served in the front line. He even admitted his arrogance & challenging words like "Bring them on" increased the volume of more body bags. Bush senior is not only war hero but also sensible diplomat. Daddy is entitled for some respects & honour.

You're right. If anyone builds a boat in GWB's name, they need to do it to commemorate the Iraq War, the screw-ups in Afghanistan, the collapsed economy, the loss of constitutional rights, the destruction of America's international reputation, the rise of incompetent buffoonery and malicious maladministration everywhere in the federal government, the spread of legalized torture, indefinite imprisonment without charges, presidential-sanctioned kidnapping, extensive looting of the Treasury, presidential arrogance in unconstitutionally decreeing himself above the law, and able to negate the constitutional function of Congress, to legislate, and the total negation of rationality in every function of the Federal government.

Nice boat for Daddy Bush, though. :-)

Gotta love it - an aircraft carrier - the Ultimate Gift for the man who has a planet-sized ego deficit.

Ditto for men who feel the 'need' to get behind the wheel of a massive SUV. Tiny egos. :-)

Nippon5 - nice dodge of a very serious topic! :-)

Dream on.

Sarge, dream on. :-)

If anything is designed to commemorate GWB, it'll be flushed down the toilet where it belongs long before it gets off the drawing board. :-)

But nice little boat for Daddy Bush!

'The elder Bush, 84, told the ship’s crew, his voice quavering at times with emotion, that they will form “an unbroken line of patriots protecting this special piece of American territory.”'

An 'unbroken line of patriots' - that'll play well to the "patriotic" bulletheads out there who supported both Bushs. :-)

It's a nice line to make the unthinking masses feel all warm and fuzzy inside, I must admit. :-)

sarge: "dream on"

Oh, the wit!

Seriously though, sarge, I'm sure you can already buy GWB toilet paper. Maybe daddy will even have the crew use it on the new ship! A nice little slap for junior.
