The “Democrat machine” would have waited until you were the nominee to destroy you, Herman.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The democrats, LDS, the Perry Campaign... I'm not sure why you need a conspiracy theory. Political reporters dig up dirt. That's what they do. And Cain is the man in the spotlight at the moment. Someone was bound to dig up those 90's settlements.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Question: Where were these women in 2000 when Cain was running for president or in 2004 when he was running for the Senate? Wasn't important enough to go public then?

Having never been a victim of sexual harrasment/assualt, I'm not in a good position to judge when it gets "important enough" to go public. I imagine it depends on the vicitm, as many find the experience quite traumatizing.

I think Kraushaar's case is ediffying, however. From what I've read, she had no plans to go public and didn't want to speak about the incident. Then the cases were dug up by politico. When Cain publicly denied any wrong-doing she was spurred to release a statement through her lawyer. She was still trying to keep her name out of it, but recognized that she would be unlikely to be able to do so. The revelations of the 90's claims and Kraushaar's statements + Cains denials broght Bialek to come forward publicly - that seems like a major step to me, the breaking of the barrier that would make it easier for others to go public. Once Kraushaar's name was released publicly, she had a lot less to lose. Cains continued vocal, wide-brush denials of any wrongdoing have predictably pushed her toward going public.

As you have seen right here on this boad, going public with sexual related allegations is difficult. You get a lot of flak from people who are more than willing to instantly judge you guilty of moneygrabbing or attention mongering. Your personal life and all it's details are dug through and exposed to everyone. Youget called a liar, slut, and a golddigger. I won't be surprised if the woman gets threats, anonymous or otherwise. If she really was harrassed, and in a serious and ongoing manner, then she is likely to have suffered emotional trauma, which she will be forced to relive (for the second time, given her 90's suit) - trauma which will be compounded by having large numbers of people, both strangers and worse people who know her, disbelieve her.

That's a pretty high price to pay, if you ask me. Is it worth paying to punish Cain? Is it worth paying for settlment $$$? Is it worth paying for justice? Is it worth paying to support other victims, and perhaps prevent future ones? Is it worth paying to set the story straight, as you see it? That's a very personal question. The stakes go up as Cain gains power and prominence. Cain clearly knew about the settlements back when he ran for senate, as he instructed his lawyers and campaign guys about them so that they could be prepared if the issue came up. I don't know anything about the Senate race, other than that Cain apparently didn't win. I didn't know he ran for president in 2000 either. From that I gather that either the stakes were not high enough, or that Cain was not considered a viable candidate until quite recently.

So, back to the why now: We have a confluence of elements: 1) The stakes are unprecedentedly high: Cain was (is?) in a real position to secure the Republican nomination for president of the United States. 2) The 90's settlements, if not their details, were brought to public attention by journalists (who's digging was prompted by #1). 3) Cain subsequently made public denials (which would rankle his accusers).

Consequently, 4) Bialek comes forward which sort of shatters a glass wall. With one victim out in the public eye, putting a face to the allegations, it make it much easier for others to come forward... and the more that do, the more likely that others will join them. It increases the likelyhood that they will be believed. The can support eachother. There is solidarity, and when one is attacked the others will be spurred to come to her defense. As mentioned perviously, 6) Kraushaar's name has been released to the public. She has little privacy left to lose. And now, slowly, she is moving toward trying to get all the women together to share their stories.

Now, could the allegations be false or overblown? Yes. But the above is a perfectly reasonable, even probably I'd say, explaination of "why now?" if the charges are true. And the more women that come forward and speak out, the more believable they become. Honestly, guilty or not, I think Cain is already toast. The damage has been done.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Hah! All a lie detector will prove is that he is ignorant enough to think what he did was not "groping". To him it's apparently "business as usual". As I said before, the National Restaurant Association thought the allegations were serious enough to warrant a gag order on the victims if they accepted a settlement. If there was nothing to the allegations, then they wouldn't have even settled.

"Republican Herman Cain on Tuesday slammed what he called the “Democrat machine” behind a spiraling scandal threatening his White House bid, as a second woman went public with sexual harassment claims."

Wow, this guy maybe IS Republican presidential material -- I mean, he flip-flops every day! He didn't pay them money, then it was that he did. He paid them a little, then it was he paid them a lot. He won't speak out, he speaks out. It was Rick Perry's camp, it's the Democrats.

Anyway, Herman... just relax about the Democrats and look to your own party -- the Democrats and simply sitting back and laughing their butts off as you guys make utter and complete fools of yourselves with the infighting and smear campaigns over which doofus will run against the sure-to-win Obama. Trust me, the Dems would LOVE to have someone like HC running for Pres against Obama; it would make the land-slide all the better.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Because I’m doing this for the American people.

*money

Well, they found yet ANOTHER Anglo-Saxon (White) Blond hair blue eyed woman to accuse him. Next thing ya know, they'll be calling him Herman "Jungle Fever" Cain. I really really feel sorry for this guy. They are making an example out of him and a message to any African-American wishing to be President that this is how they'll bring you down.

Give the race card a rest already.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

As CEO of the organization, you did have some influence over the human resources people who were your subordinates You could have easily commanded them not to settle.

Not true and unethical. The person accused in the complaint has to stay out of the process completely once a formal complaint has been filed. This is to prevent any retaliation on the accuser and to ensure that the complaint is investigated in a manner that would preclude bias to determine the legitimacy of the allegation and what ever outcome or agreement the parties come to. This is why Human Resources departments are the experts on the matter and it is always handled by them.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

rickyvee,

The NRA statement;

“Based upon the information currently available, we can confirm that more than a decade ago, in July 1999, Mr. Bennett’s client filed a formal internal complaint, in accordance with the Association’s existing policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. Mr. Herman Cain disputed the allegations in the complaint. The Association and Mr. Bennett’s client subsequently entered into an agreement to resolve the matter, without any admission of liability. Mr. Cain was not a party to that agreement.

He was notified he did dispute and he was then out of the process, standard procedure in the handling of these type of allegations.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

SuperLib: "That's a serious accusation."

Agreed. Fortunately we can take it even less seriously since he made the same one before, but directed at the Perry camp.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Give the race card a rest already.

Given that the lady originally sued him back in the 90's, I'm a bit confused as how they "found" her "to accuse him."

Karen Kraushaar, interestingly enough, has apparently kept all of the documentation she had of the alleged harassment from the original suit. She wasn't intending to speak out about it, but Cain's insistance that her allegations against him were "proven baseless" has spurred her to action.

If you thought this was ugly now, its going to get a whole lot uglier. I'm just waiting for the other women to join the chorus.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Karen Kraushaar, broke her silence to say she was one of two women who had settled a claim against Cain for sexual harassment back in the 1990s, when she was employed by the NRA.

She had issued a statement on Friday through her lawyer saying Cain had made a “series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances.”

And Kraushaar said Tuesday it may be possible to corroborate her allegations.

“The incidents in question occurred many years ago, but corroboration may still be possible with respect to some of the incidents, and in some cases it may even be possible to find witnesses,” she was quoted as saying by USA Today.

What I find so frustrating with all this is the above. Ever since POLITICO reported this OCT 30 it has been a "series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances". The woman now has a name and has went public and yet she still won't tell us what it is that he exactly did. This is why this story won't die and why it is still being talked about 9 days later. Mr. Cain has put all his cards on the table and has flat denied he did anything inappropriate. It is time now for POLITICO and this woman to put her actual real allegations on the table and let the public decide if Mr. Cain is telling the truth that they had no merit. The longer these allegations remain vague and not specific so he cannot finally address them the more damage is done to Mr. Cain and his reputation and campaign. Which it pretty much seems to have been the gameplan since this whole thing came out in the first place.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Next thing ya know, they'll be calling him Herman "Jungle Fever" Cain.

It would be Herman "Where Da White Women At" Cain; but this angle is moot.

But, he didn't pay them money. The NRA did. Cain did not settle with the women. The NRA did. Was he actually involved in those negotiations?

Obviously the NRA are in on the conspiracy to discredit Cain, and they have been for a while. Also, moon landing was faked.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The media works by causing controversy and fallacy fabrications, the mainstream population would have assumptions and suspicions and would believe anything the idiot box tells them..

"Cain is clearly a sexual harrassment predator"

It's not clear at all. His word against theirs, so far.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Just because 5 people say someone did something bad doesn't mean it's necesssarily true.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It must be noted that these harrassment charges against Cain don't jive with the rest of his life history of a humble beginning and hard work, as opposed to our current president.

More about gold digger - sorry - accuser Number One:

"In the courts, Ms. Bialek has had a lengthy record in the Cook County Court [Chicago, Obama's former home] system over various civil lawsuits. The following cases on file in Cook County are:

Can anyone enlighten me why nobody even mentioned the use of Lie Detector in cases like this. Is it illegal? Is it useless, inaccurate?

The last one.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I have to agree that Cain should be sunk by his whacky economic and foreign policy ideas. But the press wants to sell their media and sex sells. I agree that it points to the though that the public is easily led, which is a sad thing. But as long as people click on the latest "Cain groped ...." story the stories will continue to appear. The same thing is happening to Paterno at Penn State right now. He blew the guy in and the authorities did nothing. But now it's all his fault. Why? Because by howling that it is news the media generates sales. And the public is dumb enough to buy it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

And the public is dumb enough to buy it.

It isn't just sex, though, is it? It's about abuse of power. It's about a lack of honesty and mismanagement. It's about moral bankrupcy. And it's about the place of women in society.

I fail to see how this isn't a serious issue.

That's called Rearranging Chairs On The Titanic. :-)

No. That's called being wrong.

The only people that really knows what happened are Cain and these so-called victims. None of us were there of course, the liberal crowd on JT were there so they know for a fact that Cain is guilty. I on the other hand, like to be smart and to use better judgement. I don't know who is telling the truth, very difficult. Having said that, I am a Cain supporter, love the man. Don't think he is perfect, but has a lot of business sense and is street smart. As for the women, as I said, time after time, why the wait? Why come out after all these years. 12-14 years silence and now that the man is campaigning, these women come out, it doesn't make sense and as unreconstructed wrote about this woman's past (Bialek) one can only wonder. She said, it's not about money, Ok, so what is it about that you couldn't say 12 years ago. One thing as an American what gets my blood boiling is that we have a country that will sue and take legal action on a dime on ANY occasion, ANY time! If someone stubs their toe, I'll get sued, if you say, "wow, you look so pretty" you get sued. In America, you can sued for suing someone. It's embarrassing, we do it way too much and it just shows what sometimes our society is about, compensation, lawsuit-compensation, frivolous lawsuit-conpensation. First it was one woman, then 2, now total 5?! Now everyone is lawyering up. Don't some of you liberals see what is going on? Again, if Cain really did this, then it is very bad and he should step down, but if not, these women need to get a life and move on, some of them received a nice settlement. What else do they want and what is the main objective for these women?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Bottom line is this - Obama's camp is terrified of the thought of running against Cain, whether he is the presidential or VP nominee because Cain has far more experience than Obama when it comes to actually doing something and also because it takes away their favorite weapon - the race card. He's also afraid that blacks in America will listen to what Cain says and see that he wants to help blacks escape the dependency mindset and free them, unlike the Dems that want to keep them dependent on government programs. After all, we know that people tend to vote for the candidate that promises them the most goodies, especially Democrat voters. And if Cain is the VP candidate, I believe the presidential running mate will be Newt Gingrich, who will roast Obama alive in any debate. It will be humorous to watch that.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@HumanTarget How on earth do you think that Obama can defeat Cain so easily? Obama has lost a large section of independents as well as Democrat voters and surely hasn't swayed any conservatives. Cain has experience that Obama has only read about. 3 years of floundering in the White House doesn't count. Obama is scared to death of running against Cain. And black voters will face a tough question... "Do I vote for the real black man or the manufactured one?"

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not necessarily. Cain was emerging as a front-runner, and some panicky Democrats, who for some reason are not confident that Obama can easily beat any of the Republican candidates, could have something to do with it.

I don't know any democrats that are afraid of Herman Cain. Perhaps that's just sampling bias.

That being said, lie-detector tests are bogus, there have been many cases of false positives/inaccuracies.

Agreed.

It might not have been the "Democrat Machine" who set this all in motion (and I also doubt that they are at all in fear of him as a serious candidate)... methinks the Church of LDS may have...

He is appearing to come across as a GWB and a BC at the same time.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Today it's the 'Democrat machine'?

Who was he blaming yesterday?

Was that who he was blaming the day before?

This guy is a one-man comedy show. LOL! :-)

And there's some conservatives out there who take him seriously. I don't know what's funnier, ha ha ha. :-)

The guy made a mistake. OK, 4 mistakes and counting.

Wow, I did not realize there had been some sort of trial and that he was found guilty. Could you please provide a source for this big scoop?

SushiSake3,

There wasn't and he hasn't.

Then why would you write this:

The guy made a mistake. OK, 4 mistakes and counting.

as if it was the truth f you don't know it to be true?

Scroll up.

I scrolled all the way up to the http: address and I still did not find anything to suggest proof of guilt.

Perhaps I need a taller monitor? ;-)

Sioux Chef:

" Indeed, Herman, the Democrat Machine(TM) is equipped with a flux capacitor and traveled back to the 1990s to convince multiple women "

No need for a time machine. 2 of them work for the Obama administration NOW, and the latest one, who is touring the talkshows now and probably has a nice book deal cooking is sharing a gym with David Axelrod NOW.

No time machine, just a good old smear campaign.

If there was nothing to the allegations, then they wouldn't have even settled.

That statement could be dismissed by an average level high school student. You seem to have no clue what even false accusations from a determined individual can do to a man and a corporation. If some random woman with some information about you banged on your door one day and told your wife how you had been having an affair with her, how do you think it would go down when you got home? Seriously think about that. If the same random woman threatened to do that, and you believed she had enough information and determination to cause trouble in your marriage, how much would you pay her to shut up?

BREAKING NEWS on Karen Kraushaar,

A woman who settled a sexual harassment complaint against GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain in 1999 complained three years later at her next job about unfair treatment, saying she should be allowed to work from home after a serious car accident and accusing a manager of circulating a sexually charged email, The Associated Press has learned.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Harasser or not Cain is not qualified to be president period.

That is for the American voter to decide. Not you.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Didn't the same fallacy arise during Barracks run for the election in the past, the media generally focuses on one particular party during an election then switches, in the past the media was mostly only focused on the Democrat party, now its the Republican party, gees I wonder who will win... kind of obvious..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't want a touchy feely president - grabbing and groping women !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

See, this is why this scandal is pissing me off: it is distracting from the real issues of why this man would be a travesty of a president. Instead of debating the issues - such as where he's been since China invented their own nuclear weapons, or whether he did in fact rip his economic plan off from Sim City - we're instead rehashing old sex scandals. There is a plethora of stuff to bring this man down with - substance stuff - and instead we're talking about forced genital fondling.

Okay, let's take him at his word and say that it never happened and let him proceed with sinking his own boat with his own terrible ideas.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cain's poor handling of harassment claim will sink his campaign. He first admitted that he didn't know anything about any harassment settlement. Then later admitted that knew quite a lot about it. His explanation. "I just started to remember more" is lame. Well, he's political history because he lied about it. His credibility is in doubt and so is his political smarts. He needs to get clean and until he offers a fuller accounting, Cain will be dogged for more answers. He must be totally honest. Maybe it's time to throw the towel in Herman. The future president must be a man of integrity and have character.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Question: Where were these women in 2000 when Cain was running for president or in 2004 when he was running for the Senate? Wasn't important enough to go public then?

Karen Kraushaar when she filed her complaint after she went to work for the Immigration Dept in 2002 has a little trouble remembering the exact details.

To settle the complaint at the immigration service, Kraushaar initially demanded thousands of dollars in payment, a reinstatement of leave she used after the accident earlier in 2002, promotion on the federal pay scale and a one-year fellowship to Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, according to a former supervisor familiar with the complaint. The promotion itself would have increased her annual salary between $12,000 and $16,000, according to salary tables in 2002 from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Kraushaar told the AP she considered her employment complaint "relatively minor" and she later dropped it.

"The concern was that there may have been discrimination on the job and that I was being treated unfairly," Kraushaar said. Kraushaar said Tuesday she did not remember details about the complaint and did not remember asking for a payment, a promotion or a Harvard fellowship.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"I will vigorously defend my reputation, because I will not allow false accusations to compromise or in any way reflect badly on my character or on my integrity," Cain said Tuesday in an afternoon news conference in Scottsdale, AZ.

Herman, Herman, Herman... the time to have vigorously defended your reputation, your character, and your integrity would have been back at the time when two women filed formal complaints against you. You failed to do that. As CEO of the organization, you did have some influence over the human resources people who were your subordinates You could have easily commanded them not to settle.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Cain is toast! So are all the other Republican misfits! Y'all get ready for a second Obama term and the continued decline of the U.S.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And we all know that that is what this orgy of accusation is really about at its black heart.

A lot of Cain's support comes from the so-called "values voters" and religious fundamentalists who tend to have the most prudish attitude about matters of this type. Whether he quits or not, a lot of people in that segment must be having some serious doubts about him.

Many of you are setting it up so that only men so completely chaste that even unproven allegations can't stick can run for office. Is that the kind of straight-laced goober you want representing you?

Not at all. I can recall a person successfully elected as president who entered the office with allegations of sexual improprieties attached to him. And the very types who defend Cain now had a field day attacking that president.

The next time you fall for a woman at the office or whereever, and you agonize over how to win her heart without doing anything against the law or company policy or worthy of a civil suit, you just remember it was you who painted yourself in the corner by pandering to rubbish like this. Either you set the tone or you let it be set by your silent acceptance.

Well, I believe there is a right way and wrong way to deal with feelings of attraction for another person in the workplace. Doing things the wrong way is a reflection of character and should be held up for examination.

And if you ever get canned because a woman pointed a finger at you for something you didn't even do, know that that is also your fault if you are railing against Cain or silentling accepting this nonsense.

Yeah, and if I'm a multimillionaire CEO, I'll probably sit in my private jet and sulk for awhile. It's Cain who should have not accepted the "nonsense" of having his organization settle a claim that he felt was baseless. He could have informed the organization of his intention to take the matter to court to clear his name -- which would have forced a complete different kind of outcome.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Many of you are setting it up so that only men so completely chaste that even unproven allegations can't stick can run for office.

Your standards of sexual conduct, sir, seem somewhat lacking. I don't see women going public to accuse Mitt Romney or even the "manly" Rick Perry of anything.

Don't downplay the Democrat Machine's role in this. Harnessing 1.21 gigawatts is no small feat.

The best thing that could possibly happen to the Democrats is a Cain nomination. It would be like watching Spain take on North Korea in the World Cup. Unadultered slaughter. I would almost have to avert my eyes.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I know that Cain was CEO of the NRA, but that does not mean such information cannot be kept from the man. I see no reason to believe that its impossible the legal department could not have acted under direction from certain members of the board, such as the chairman, and essentially kept Cain in the dark. And why not?

There is zero chance that the lawyers would not have brought this to Cain. That is not how business associations work.

@Smith

Thank you for properly interpreting and defending my comment.

Had a campaigning John Edwards been accused in 04 by a neighbor of Karl Rove's we can all imagine the liberal hysteria that would have occasioned.

This is exactly correct. It is also why politics in America today is in such sad shape. The media does not report the news it decides what "is" news and pushes their interpretation of it based on their liberal world view. It's a miracle that any Republican could have gotten elected president over the past 70 years in America. The media's handling of the accusations against Cain and those numerous accusations against Clinton, and Hill's against Clarence Thomas are text book examples of the media's double standard. Even in John Edward's case, it got the benefit of the doubt from the press all the way up until definitive evidence to the contrary came to light.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Taka313 - So let me get this straight. Herman who has never held a political office, somehow has more presidential experience than our current sitting president.

Cain has a proven history of running successful organizations. Obama has a long history of doling out other peoples money.

The U.S. economy is in trouble because the federal government continues to overspend. The U.S. debt is too high and it's borrowing over 40 cents for every dollar it takes in. Obama has no chance of reining in spending (not that he would want to). Cain, and many of the GOP candidates, could push thru a balanced budget amendment and insist that spending be curtailed. It would also help if many of the progressive Democrats in the Senate were to be replaced by conservatives.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yabits - At this point, Cain's fate lies solely with the Republicans.

The Republicans will get their chance to select their candidate by the end of the GOP convention. That doesn't stop Obama's former chief of staff, David Axlerod, from trying to influence the outcome of the primarys by inventing stories about Cain or Perry or Romney or .....

Then Obama will have to run on his own dismal record and lack of leadership.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cain's bumbling, prevaricating Obama-esque handling of a simple question about foreign policy (Libya) is what should disqualify him.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

kevinintokyo - Please Google's Cain's response to the question about Obama's dealing with the Libya campaign. Cain is only known for the executive that said to put the meat under the cheese on the Godfather's pizzas. By the way I have not seen a Godfathers pizza in 20 years on the East coat of America. Basically he started strong but proved to be ignorant in real world problems/ situations. He will not make the nomination .....

Does Cain understand that Hawaii is not part of Asia? During Obama's recent golf outing in Hawaii, Obama said that it is. Oops.

Cain was involved in running the company not chosing which toppings to apply first. Under Cain's leadership, many failing franchises were closed, the organization was restructured and the company began showing a profit. Keeping incompetents in their present position is why Obama can't jump start the economy and create jobs. Cain at least knows what it's like to have a real job in the private sector and to be successful at it.

The guy made a mistake. OK, 4 mistakes and counting.

Now he's getting the rap. There is nothing racial in that.

It's just news because he is in the news right now. If he was a nobody a regular joe company, this wouldn't be news at all.

Cain is so imbecilic, one has to wonder if he's even speaking figuratively of a 'Democrat machine'.

Indeed, Herman, the Democrat Machine(TM) is equipped with a flux capacitor and traveled back to the 1990s to convince multiple women to falsely accuse you of sexual harassment before returning to 2011 to tank your already-a-joke-of-a campaign.

And when it became apparent you might survive that storm, the Democrat Machine went back again and implanted false memories in the minds of even more women . . . the Democrat Machine's Manchurian candidates, if you will.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. The power of the Democrat Machine is unparalleled.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

“...the Democrat machine in America has brought forth a troubled woman to make false accusations,” he told reporters in Arizona.

That's a serious accusation.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

he flip-flops every day! He didn't pay them money, then it was that he did. He paid them a little, then it was he paid them a lot. He won't speak out, he speaks out. It was Rick Perry's camp, it's the Democrats.

But, he didn't pay them money. The NRA did. Cain did not settle with the women. The NRA did. Was he actually involved in those negotiations? You tell me. You seem to know.

What I see indicates that he heard things he never had confirmed and that he clarified some things that were misunderstood about what he said. But hey, if you can prove all that wrong, be my guest. I might be wrong about some of that, but that is my understanding. Just please be careful about what the press said and what was an actual quote. The variation between the two is sometimes astounding.

As far as the actual story, Cain says there isn't one. He said he sexually harrassed no one and he has been consistent about that. He says the original accusations are false, which is not the same as calling the women liars, which is something many people seem confused about. Cain is just saying they are mistaken. In other words, they may actually believe an offense occurred, but Cain says its incorrect, and that makes sense for the date invitation and the height comment. However, he did call one woman, Bialek, a liar. Its the only way to explain the he said, she said situation. Somebody is lying about that one for sure.

The only thing I am sure he flip-flopped about was saying he would not talk about it, yet here he is talking. But I can't blame him. Guilty or innocent it must be frustrating. He does not really have a choice but to talk since the 4th accuser stepped forward and now one of the two with agreements is violating her agreement by talking.

Sharon Bialek, Cain accuser, lives in the same fuh-reakin apartment building as DAVID AXELROD.

There is a percentage of the radical right in America that will be energised by these accusations, especially if they are portrayed as coming from the Democrats. The fringe right is angered by anything that smacks of feminism, rights for women or any minorities, and sees nothing wrong with soused louts smacking women's bums for a laugh (as long as it's not their own wife or daughter, mind you.) Although I would not support Cain if I were in a position to vote for an American president, I am a bit concerned that the centre and left in America overlooked Clinton's behaviour because it supported Clinton's policies and those same people are now outraged by Cain. At this point, all we know is that Cain was stopped trying to steal second base, as it were, while Clinton made it home.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It would be Herman "Where Da White Women At" Cain; but this angle is moot.

and racist.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Obviously the NRA are in on the conspiracy to discredit Cain

Could you save the jokes for later? Look, I know that Cain was CEO of the NRA, but that does not mean such information cannot be kept from the man. I see no reason to believe that its impossible the legal department could not have acted under direction from certain members of the board, such as the chairman, and essentially kept Cain in the dark. And why not? I can totally imagine a guy like Cain getting all POed about it and making a scene the board would want to avoid.

He was CEO of the NRA. Not God.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

There is a percentage of the radical right in America that will be energised by these accusations, especially if they are portrayed as coming from the Democrats. The fringe right is angered by anything that smacks of feminism, rights for women or any minorities,

What's the exact percentage? What defines 'radical' - for an outside observer of US politics? Cain is a black male, his accusers 'white' women. Just which side is this phantom 'fringe' hoping will win? His poll ratings rose when Palin ('white' female) dropped out. Really, I just laugh at how bizarre some of the nonAmerican analysis gets.

Cain and all the Republican dumb heads need to quit.

Republicans are only good for :

1) Starting Wars they can't finish

2) Destroying the economy

3) Saying stupid racist remarks " Conservative blacks are better than the Liberal blacks "

4) Very good at dividing the country

5) accepting money from Lobbyists And the Saudi Royality

Message to all conservatives:

All jokes aside: it will hopefully be dawning on some of you by now that YOU DO NOT HAVE A SERIOUS CANDIDATE.

Herman Cain is not a serious candidate. Neither is Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachman or Newt Gingrich. The only half-serious candidate you have is Jon Huntsman.

You had better get yourself a serious candidate before the election otherwise your party and your ideals will be beaten.

Again.

As I said, all jokes aside.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Cain said he was willing to take a polygraph test to prove he was telling the truth. “Of course I would be willing to do a lie detector test,” Cain told reporters, but added: “I’m not going to do that unless I have a good reason to do that.”

Cain mealy-mouths it yet again. C'mon Herman, show you're a leader. Demand to take a polygraph test and challenge your accusers to take them as well. Set the example.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Good thing Nessie's sarcastic comments towards NetNinja's saying Cain has 'Jungle Fever' went right over your head, I guess.

Serrano: "Question: Where were these women in 2000 when Cain was running for president or in 2004 when he was running for the Senate? Wasn't important enough to go public then?"

This question, or your other "Where were these women then?" questions have been answered on three other threads to date. It's your own fault that you do not see them (or choose to ignore them).

yabits: "Cain mealy-mouths it yet again. C'mon Herman, show you're a leader. Demand to take a polygraph test and challenge your accusers to take them as well. Set the example."

Good catch on the polygraph flip-flop. I missed that one while looking at the growing myriad of others.

See, this is why this scandal is pissing me off: it is distracting from the real issues of why this man would be a travesty of a president.

Real issues like our 16 trillion dollar debt, Solyndra, GunWalker. LOL. This is all orchestrated to help Obama.

"The concern was that there may have been discrimination on the job and that I was being treated unfairly," Kraushaar said.

Obviously a woman not to be pushed around or trifled with. Someone with a high level of sensitivity to what is right and what is wrong, and is willing to fight for what she thinks is right.

A nightmare for Cain, who didn't show he was willing to fight charges that he now claims he felt were baseless at the time they were made. Hey, Herman, do you have to be told that it is vitally important to fight charges against you especially when you believe they are baseless? Especially in light of what was happening in the decade with Bill Clinton , Bob Packwood, and Clarence Thomas. (Similar scandals occurred in the private sector as well.)

Wasn't that teaching you anything?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Can anyone enlighten me why nobody even mentioned the use of Lie Detector in cases like this. Is it illegal? Is it useless, inaccurate? My fancy is when they finally perfected, really perfected this thing, criminal judges will all lose their jobs and false charges none existent.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This is all orchestrated to help Obama.

Another genius, who like yokohamarider has this all figured out. Obama used his time machine to back to the early 1990s to convince a bunch of women to file sexual harassment suits against Herman Cain so that they could use those suits against Herman in the future when Herman runs for president. It's as plain as the Kenyan ink on Obama's birth certificate!

You sure have Obama and his evil agenda pegged. Probably from spending every waking hour obsessing about the man.

I don't see women going public to accuse Mitt Romney or even the "manly" Rick Perry of anything.

Right. But Mitt is anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage and Mormon. Its hard to pin anything sexual on that guy. If legislation comes up to further restrict your sexual freedom, I don't expect Mitt to put his foot down. And oh, you may be anti-abortion, but I can totally seeing that change if you have a little "accident".

Perry married his elementary school sweetheart. I suppose a lot of us would have a different view of life if we were in that situation. But most of us aren't. Does Perry have a clue what the rest of us go through? Has he ever faced rejection? I don't know, but with Perry, you just might want to give it time. I would not be surprised if he were having an affair with a National Guardsman.

But don't forget that Perry supports the out-dated and little used sodomy law. How many of us straight men have violated that one with our women? The Supreme court struck the state law down despite Gov. Perry's support, but what would a President Perry do? He is also anti-abortion and gay marriage. Quite safely anti-sex.

The funny thing is that even Cain does not represent so many of us men. He is also anti-abortion as well as anti-gay marriage. He even threatens to reinstate DADT. All firmly anti-sex positions, and even if you feel they don't affect you, a man who is so anti-sex is definitely a threat to your sexual freedom. But at least he now knows what its like to be on the receiving end of some crazy accustions of SH.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Well, I believe there is a right way and wrong way to deal with feelings of attraction for another person in the workplace.

Could you link me to a guide explaining how its done? Several of us are married to women who could have placed similar charges if they had instead rejected our advances. There is no "neat" way to approach women that has a decent success rate.

Doing things the wrong way is a reflection of character and should be held up for examination.

I would agree on anything but sex and dating matters. Every woman is different and some have absolutely no interest in men who play "by the rules". Most will take an alpha male who breaks the rules over a beta man who lives by them and lives a hum-drum little world. But none of us know when we are going to come across a plain old anti-male B who will yell SH where another woman will finally respond to you for crossing the line. Sex and dating is messy. Its a minefield. And putting more explosives in the mines is no way to make it neater.

Half of the charges against Cain are just sheer intolerance of males. The rest seem to be way over-sensitive and/or spite. And these from women, who don't have to stick their necks out at all.

Make no mistake. I am firmly anti- Herman Cain. But its got nothing to do with these charges, even if they are true. Its his 9-9-9 silliness, his anti-abortion stance, his anti-gay marriage stance, and his vow to reinstate DADT. Also there is his pro-war stance and pro-execution stance as well as his belief that protecting Israel protects America.

About the only thing I like about Cain is that he pointed out back in the 90s that SH laws benefit opportunists. Its almost like he had a crystal ball on that one.

shanabelleNov. 09, 2011 - 11:20AM JST It might not have been the "Democrat Machine" who set this all in motion (and I also doubt that they are at all in fear of him as a serious candidate)... methinks the Church of LDS may have...

No. This has Karl Rove's fingerprints all over it. The Dems would love to have an idiot like Cain (or Bachmann or Perry or Gingrich or . . . ) get the nomination. Romney is the "reasonable" candidate though he still doesn't stand a chance against Obama. He's a lousy public speaker and the Tea Party knuckle-draggers will never let him run away from the fact that he was an enthusiastic supporter of the heath care reform adopted in Massachusetts that was pretty much the model for the federal policy.

Oh! And he's a Mormon. Though not as looney as Scientologist or Raeliens. they still believe in various weirdnesses beyond the standard Christian weirdness.

Harasser or not Cain is not qualified to be president period. Cain is blowing nothing more than smoke. Cain's policy proposals has ranged from ignorant to absolutely unworkable. He brags about his complete lack of government experience. He trumpets his ignorance of foreign policy. These are suppose to be a selling point but if though he were actually elected president, the real result would surely be disaster. And the American people would learn that. He has absolutely no substance and is only qualified to be a business man.

The Association and Mr. Bennett’s client subsequently entered into an agreement to resolve the matter

So, after investigating and hearing both sides, the "association" decided that the matter had enough substance to it that it best be resolved without the plaintiff taking it public. It's a standard CYA decision.

without any admission of liability.

Which means: "He could have very well done the things you've complained about, but we're not going to formally admit that. Please take some money."

Mr. Cain was not a party to that agreement.

Cain was a direct party to its conclusion, which left his character and integrity under a cloud of suspicion -- should the confidentiality of the affair ever be breached.

There are STILL no specifics from the first two women, the only women who could provide documented evidence. One of them refuses to talk to the media and the 2nd hired a lawyer to say she refuses to talk to the media.

Politico obviously hasn't seen any settlement or they would know what was in it. It was also Politico that dug up the 5th woman who admits that nothing sexual happened that she is aware of.

I would llike the Politico "reporter" to tell everyone who gave him the Cain story. Was it really an associate of David Axlerod, Obama's former chief of staff?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Bottom line is this - Obama's camp is terrified of the thought of running against Cain

The bottom line is always the bottom line. And that means money. The millions that Romney and a few others have invested in their campaigns has to provide a return. Cain threatens that return on investment. It's the Republican side that wants him brought down.

At this point, Cain's fate lies solely with the Republicans. If most thought that Cain truly represented the most viable candidate of their party, they would be doubling and re-doubling their support of the man.

That ain't happening.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Please Google's Cain's response to the question about Obama's dealing with the Libya campaign.

Cain's lousy excuses about why he flubbed the Libya question run the same pattern as his "explanations" about the women who filed formal grievances about his boorish behavior.

That doesn't stop Obama's former chief of staff, David Axlerod, from trying to influence the outcome of the primarys

There is far less evidence of Axlerod having any involvement in the Cain stories than the women's claims against Cain. It just goes to prove that Cain's defenders simply must be hypocrites -- inventing stories out of thin air.

Who was he blaming yesterday? Was that who he was blaming the day before?

Good questions Sushi. Would you mind answering them?

I scanned through JT's articles. From the first article, it says he blamed the press and the Democrats for all this coming to light.

Some people are saying he also blamed Perry's camp, but I don't see anything saying that Heman Cain himself actually did that.

I don't think he should blame specific people for digging this up without proof. But Cain is far from the only person making grand statements without proof. But one thing is for sure; somebody dug this up. This did not start in 2011 with women stepping forward. This started with them being pushed from behind.

Again, I don't think he should make random accusations. But I certainly feel his frustration. Haven't all of us been in the position of having crap fly at us from someone can't see? Or something stolen from someone unknown? I can empathize with his accusations, even if they are unfounded as far as I can tell.

The Cain Train needs to quit while it's behind.

And when he does, conservatives are going to be lumped with a rag-tag bunch of total no-hopers to choose their candidate from. If I was a conservative with a pick like there is, I'd have been on the bottle every day for months.

Honestly, the conservative presidential candidates are hopeless; I don't think it has ever been this bad.

I'l say it again: when the smoke of the conservative presidential campaign finally clears, there's going to be nothing and nobody of any substance left.

And as Cain is illustrating so deftly, they're destroying themselves with uncanny skill.

Hilarious, sorry, I need to sit down. :-)

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Look, I know that Cain was CEO of the NRA, but that does not mean such information cannot be kept from the man. I see no reason to believe that its impossible the legal department could not have acted under direction from certain members of the board...

have you not been following cain's comments (you can be excused since he has flip flopped so often)? he has already admitted to knowing about payments being made to at least one accuser. and besides, anytime there is a claim of sexual harrasment made, the accusee has a chance to rebut the claim, which he has also admitted to doing. so it's basically impossible for cain not to have known about the allegations slung at him while at the nra.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I am glad he is not quitting. Americans need to learn to live with the word "sex" being uttered in the same sentence as a politician's name. And we all know that that is what this orgy of accusation is really about at its black heart. Look how we lost Anthony Wiener. If Cain quits now, the next guy will be ruined for just shaking hands with a prostitute (excuse me, sex worker) one time in 1982. "But I didn't know she was a prostitute!" He will exclaim. And people will make statements about how he must have, as if they were there.

Many of you are setting it up so that only men so completely chaste that even unproven allegations can't stick can run for office. Is that the kind of straight-laced goober you want representing you? Seriously gentlemen. And if you ever get canned because a woman pointed a finger at you for something you didn't even do, know that that is also your fault if you are railing against Cain or silentling accepting this nonsense.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Wolfpack, the liberal media conspiracy theory is not only passe, its been proven wrong. The double standard with regards to sex scandals is purely the doing of Republicans to themselves, since its Republicans who try to wear the label of family values and sexually chaste. Republicans don't just give us sex scandals, they also give us hypocrisy, thereby doubling the story.

And I hardly see how the media's handling of Clinton helps your case. They dove into that stuff with absolute glee. About the only criticism Ken Starr got was from comedy shows. Meanwhile, the media raped Clinton so hard that images of stained dresses and cigars reverberate to this day. So could you please drop this lame attempt to paint conservatives as victims of a conspiracy already? All you are doing is making conservatives look a laughingstock. ( I suppose I should thank you!)

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

"The "Democrat machine" machine would have waited until you were the nominee to destroy you, Herman"

Not necessarily. Cain was emerging as a front-runner, and some panicky Democrats, who for some reason are not confident that Obama can easily beat any of the Republican candidates, could have something to do with it.

How come only Cain is being pressed to take a lie-detector test? How about his accusers?

That being said, lie-detector tests are bogus, there have been many cases of false positives/inaccuracies.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I think its hilarious that the right wingers here are reduced to complaining about the timing of the complaints, and completely ignoring the issue at hand; Cain is clearly a sexual harassment predator.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

This is to prevent any retaliation on the accuser and to ensure that the complaint is investigated in a manner that would preclude bias to determine the legitimacy of the allegation

Well, there you have it. Cain claims he doesn't have a clue about the what the allegations were. There is no way a human resources or legal department could "investigate" it without getting Cain's side of the story. Cain would have had to have known about the outcome -- an outcome that would be viewed as vindicating the women's charges against his character. And any executive knows how vitally important perception is.

Legal and human resources have a duty to defend the organization and its leaders from false accusations and slander. There is simply no way in hell they would allow a false accusation against a CEO to stand, IF it were false. Secondarily, they have a duty to protect the organization from scandal. It appears rather elementary that the people within NRA decided they would not come out favorably when trying to defend their CEO from an accusation, a decision that would be reached based their investigation of the substance of the accusation. They then reverted to damage control mode.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Okay no I'm convinced he did it. Right here this guy is talking like the White House is his already. I doubt this guy has walked the lawn.

I really really feel sorry for this guy. They are making an example out of him and a message to any African-American wishing to be President that this is how they'll bring you down.

Poor Cain, they're going to clean him out. He might have to pay these women, big money. He's out of the election. He can't seriously expect to go on. He might even end up in jail.

He's got Tiger Woods numbers now. Tiger and O.J have a thing for white girls. I'm not so sure about Herman

Herman Cain's situation is different. His wife is African-American. We can't be sure that he tried to feel up all these women.
