The wheels of yet another GOP candidacy fall off and the whole train wreck slams into the wall.

Michelle Bachmann – gone. Rick Perry – who?

It will be very interesting to see whether any of Cain’s supporters go to Romney, or whether Newt gets a boost.

Anyway, both hypotheses are irrelevant at this point – Obama has this election in the bag.

Two points:

1/ This election may actually be cheaper than expected if the GOP people wipe each other out before the election even begins, a scenario that is - amazingly - looking more likely by the hour.

2/ I may have to eat my words: All the losers are being weeded out and culled. This is leaving the sensible conservatives who would actually be respectable leaders of America. I’m talking of Jon Huntsman, a candidate whose level-headedness, intelligence and skills have been simply too frightening and alien to most conservative voters..until perhaps now.

Nessie: I will not quit saying this! :) hahaha.

Can't smear Newt. That'd be like bringing coal to Newcastle.

I feel sorry mainly for Cain's wife but also for his staff.

His past indescretions are like limpet mines going off under their ship.

Message conservatives: stop supporting this guy. Every day you do drags your name and the conservative brand through the mud.

As expected Mr. Cain's campaign is falling apart and his presidential bid is coming to an end fast after receiving another sexual impropriety. What a disgrace to the black community. Didn't he learn that honesty is the best policy especially as a businessperson? A man with a limited view of the world who has not traveled much, is not widely read in history and foreign policy, doesn't have a solid grasp on certain topics and doesn't listen to his media team enough to study up on areas he's deficient in. He's just not disciplined. Although he's charming and likable, all the errors, blunders, and gaffes including the allegations has damaged him and sadly he is going to be history.

I just read that an ad put out by the Conservatives4Palin group pleads with part-time Alaskan governor/serial quitter Sarah Palin to "Run Sarah Run!"

Heck, I hope she does.

She’d only bury the conservative brand even deeper than conservatives are doing themselves. :-)

This election cycle really is a shocker. The GOP is like a soccer team where everyone shoots themselves in the head before kickoff.

Unreal and hilarious at the same time.

This is an unexpected blow to Koch Brothers who have been financing his campaign. They have been pushing Sarah Palin and Gov. of Wisconsin to our throuts. I think Cain is done and cooked this time for sure..Sayonara, Adios, and goodbye to Cain!! We won't miss ya!

Bingo!

I predicted this all, two years ago, before cain even declared. I am certain that The Grand Old Party got whooped in the mid-terms (Yes, I ALSO predicted that) so it only means of course the conservative's brand is being buried deeper than a dead tuatara at your local hangi.

I hope sarah palin runs. Sure victory for Obama! The greatest, ever!.

Looks like the Cain Train is sunk.

(That's not a mixed metaphor - it flew off the track and then fell directly into a lake.)

The truth will come out over the next couple of years. Both women who have come public are broke, single mothers. It there is any truth to their accusations, you can expect they will be writing books like Gennifer Flowers did. Then it will be open season for the lawyers. No lawsuits, well that will speak for itself. No books, that will also speak volumes.

SushiSake, I'd read an interesting analysis a while back stating the best place to be in the Republican primaries was second - win that but lose to Obama and you're history (and not in the "people will remember you" sense), but come in second and you're first at bat in 2016.

So I've been watching for who will come in second. Mitt will win the nomination, of course, but who does he have as an understudy? Which of these candidates can conceivably run in 2016?

None.

Not only are the Republicans toast in 2012, but they've left themselves with no one to rally around for the next election.

I'd laugh if I weren't already guffawing so hard.

@smithinjapan

once a nominee declares, "I will not quit", their days are numbered

Okay, okay. Will you quit saying this? ;)

Even-handed but damning stuff from Slate.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/frame_game/2011/11/herman_cain_s_ginger_white_affair_was_it_adultery_the_evidence_against_himmounts.html

What I find disheartening is that some of these women seem to be serial filers of harrassment suits and thus less credible but that the weight of evidence shows that Cain has harrassed women, seen them paid off and lied about it. No heroes here.

WilliB - "Next, they´ll be smearing Newt"

There's no need. These GOP twits are destroying themselves.

Clearly, they have no overall party-wide strategy to win. It's a free-for-all circle shootout.

Laguna - "Mitt will win the nomination, of course, but who does he have as an understudy? Which of these candidates can conceivably run in 2016?"

Perhaps none. Perhaps a completely new suit that they'll pull out of the woodwork.

But can anyone else possibly be any worse than this current rapidly dwindling crop of no-hopers?

Looking at conservative/GOP actions to date, I'd bet money they an find someone ever dumber.....

Amazing - you couldn't write this stuff. :-).

WilliB: "Next, they´ll be smearing Newt."

How do you smear a stain? That's what your GOP candidates ALL are (no exceptions). Those that haven't quit, and Cain will within the week, are fighting over scraps. Obama is in in 2012, and with no real candidates being fielded the Dems now look likely to get 2016 as well.

With so many women in life, i wonder what inspired him to think of contesting Presidential Elections?

Question: What do Herman Cain and Tiger Woods have in common?

Not only are the Republicans toast in 2012, but they've left themselves with no one to rally around for the next election.

I don't think so. You just don't understand the Republican mindset, which can make the worst loser into a "winner" with tremendous self-deception. Recall Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man., and his "think system" for learning to play an instrument. Sure the kids played like crap, but their addled parents only heard beautiful music.

They've done it time and time and time again: Nixon lost to Kennedy and then proceeded to lose the California governor's race and "retired" from politics. Reagan was never considered presidential material by the Republican mainstream before and during his loss to Ford in '76. And those same Republicans worshiped him in '80.

The same is true with Gingrich. He resigned in disgrace as speaker, was reprimanded for ethical violations for the very same things he accused a colleague (Jim Wright) of doing, and, in a moment of candor on this campaign, castigated Paul Ryan's economic plan as right-wing extremism. But, he apologized -- as I'm sure he has to all three of his wives and -- like the simpering wimps they truly are -- the right-wingers have apparently forgiven him.

We've recently discovered that it was actually Newt Gingrich and not Barney Frank who may have pulled the strings of the Republican majority in Congress to resist putting tight regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. After all, he was making millions off his connections as a former speaker lobbying for them. Of course, he told the simpering wimps on the right that he was just the best-paid "historian" in the history of the world, and they bought it hook, line and sinker.

Sad that after all the other allegations, that this latest one about the mistress has had this effect. I say that because, according to her, she was made to come forward by threats.

I would really like to know who is the low-life that threatens defenseless women just to knock a guy out of race where he already does not stand a chance. What complete scum.

She showed us some of her cell phone bills that included 61 phone calls or text messages to or from a number starting with 678. She says it is Herman Cain's private cell phone. The calls were made during four different months—calls or texts made as early as 4:26 in the early morning, and as late as 7:52 at night. The latest were in September of this year. “We've never worked together,” said White. “And I can't imagine someone phoning or texting me for the last two and a half years, just because.”

We texted the number and Herman Cain called us back.

Even if I didn't have sex with her, I would feel like I was cheating on my wife if I had 61 phone calls to a woman over 4 months without her knowing.

Bye-bye, Cain. Bring out the next loser.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A lot of people owe those first two women, who didn't even want to be named, a huge apology.

They, and their words, and their reputations were sullied by this. Herman, you have some apologizing to do, starting with your wife and ending with the 2 ladies who filed sexual harassment suits against you 15 years ago.

You've done a pretty good number on all three of them Herm.

Boom! I said this a couple of weeks ago: once a nominee declares, "I will not quit", their days are numbered.

"Get ready for President Romney"

Not gonna happen. Get ready for 4 more years of Obama and decline.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Obama should reassess his re-election run, but he won't because he knows he'll win.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The Cain Train knew this was coming so they had a canned response. "Cain does not admit by the no good woman . . . and we want to move on to _____ as soon as possible.' Amazing.

He knew about all the harassment he did and the adultery he committed and yet he had the massive ego to think he could still run for president. Typical republican. All talk, no reality.

So as a former republican voter I am glad I left the sinking ship once bush took over. That was the beginning of the end of the GOP for sure. Palin drove the party down even more. So who is left to run, a serial sexual pervert, a guy who cannot remember three things, a doctor who would let patients die, two members of a church affiliated with polygamy, a disgraced and immoral former speaker of the house who was thrown out of his own party, and a few others who are not sane. Wow, the family values party has no values any longer.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Obama is toast in 2012. The economy is shaky, unemployment is too high, his negatives are waaaay too high for him to have a chance at re-election. All his political manoeuvering isn't going to help. The "Hope and Change" campaign doesn't have the legs to work again. Unfortunately, he has proven himself to be just as much a tool of the big business interests as any GOP candidate.

His whole "Supercommittee" on the deficit has been a flop, he is adding $4 BILLION a day to the national debt with no end in sight.

Get ready for President Romney. He's a safe known quantity. About as exciting as plain yogourt, but that may be what people want in times like these.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

He´ll probably quit.... too bad.

Next, they´ll be smearing Newt.

So you want to vote for a leftist drone who can not kiss enough Middle Eastern behinds, wants to throw Israel in front of the bus, believes in unlimited government spending and control, has been on a campaign trail for 4 years (when not golfing) and reads his class warfare talking points from a teleprompter? What a glorious alternative!
