Indeed, we hear so much about babies being dumped in dumpsters and killed and maimed and all sorts of horrors across America. This is a happier outcome for a change.

This is a happier outcome for a change." Yes it is, but still someone needs to start doing something about second year students getting pregnant. She walked in alone, where the hell was the guy who knocked her up? Someone, at that stage of her pregnancy, should have been with her at all times or at the very least had a method of communication.

Lots of unmarried, single women go to a sperm bank for artificial insemination so they can be a single mom. With role models like this, well, who needs a guy? A man, fish, bicycle, you know the old saw.
That aside, with all the "sex education" in U.S. schools (chuck the science and biology) how come this young woman doesn't know to tie off the umbilical cord? At least she brought the placenta to the hospital but that was by sheer dumb luck.

"go to a sperm bank for artificial insemination" do you think that is what is happening with teen age mothers? Isn't that costly?

Well younger and younger kids are having sex nowadays, the result of sexuality being force fed to them by the mass media. The fact that these young pregnant girls feel scared to tell anyone, and that the other party is nowhere to be found, speaks volumes that young people like these should not be having sex because they lack the maturity to adequately deal with these situations. But regardless, they are going to have sex, morality is not like it used to be.

rjd, I think you're taking one sensational story and pretending that it's the norm. If anyone is being influenced by the media, it's you.

super: I don't think rjd is taking it too far.. and I also feel, having lived in two of America's biggest cities, that it is becoming the norm..

Wow. A young girl who doesn't have the baby in the hospital and does the responsible thing? That brings a smile to my face. To think that she didn't even try to flush the baby down the toilet... She must have learned something. Tying off the umbilical cord is not as easy as you think. But she was able to walk 5 blocks and keep herself and her baby safe.
