According to the World Health Organization, "98 per cent of cases so far are among men who have sex with men" and that organization is urging fewer sex partners - less promiscuity - because the virus readily spreads from direct close physical contact such as in beds shared with the three men you met at bars on the weekend.

Gee, when and where did we hear a similar story not too many decades ago...

Of course it’s wildly spreading now in that rainbow state and especially in SF. The question is which moron has allowed or promoted the mass import from African areas where that viruses developed and originally stem from.

Mass import of what? viruses?

The cases are not thought to be coming directly from Africa but as a result from the transmission observed in many different countries.

Or will it be necessary to enact laws against such behavior in the interests of public health and the greater good.

Would this be in any way effective? is there any expert on epidemiology, infectology or public health saying this is a realistic solution? or is just your personal idea of what should be done?

Everyone deserves health care for something like this.

Being promiscuous, at least publicly, has always had a stigma. How many people actually sleep in someone else's bed who they don't sleep with always AND have multiple people over time, sleeping in the same bedding or together? Or did I misread the article?

It is clear that anyone can become infected. Here's hoping that your hotel/motel launders the bedding between guests!

There are other infections which spread like this, say ringworm (a fungal infection), but there must be at least 50 others.

Monkeypox has been known over 50 yrs. This isn't new, but when case counts are doubling each week, that's a huge concern. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/07/25/1113528060/the-who-declares-monkeypox-a-public-health-emergency-as-cases-pass-16-000-worldw

Monkeypox has set off the homophobes, as if unprotected sex leading to an STD is something that only happens to homosexuals.

These people are not very intelligent. Which is a nice way of saying something else.

??? Mass import? People travel and bring these diseases back with them.

Fear mongering news.

Outside of the Gay Community, how can this spread ?

Sleeping in the same bed with a monkeypox sufferer. Family co-sleeping is pretty common in less developed nations. Touching something after a moneypox sufferer touches it. Any kind of close physical contact including some sports. It is not an STD per-se as there are a lot of other ways besides sex to get it and it isn't confined to gays by any means.

It's not a deadly disease (although the very old and the very young can die from it)

But if you've seen what people who has chickenpox look like (and itching feels like), ya know why people don't wanna get it
