America seems to be gridlocked in a permanent state of dysfunction.

There's so much animosity and mistrust nothing can get done.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

It's just a delaying tactic because the US Supreme Court is 5-4 conservative judges who will side with Trump over the next 7 years.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Good ol Callie, where would you be without the constant flow of narcotics, human trafficking and cheap labor?

I'm sure glad all those rich people that live in 90+% white Beverly Hills knows whats good for everyone in Fresno or South LA.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

At this point it's probably safe to assume the wall isn't going to be built. It was a pretty stupid idea to begin with and a massive waste of limited funds that are better spent elsewhere.

America seems to be gridlocked in a permanent state of dysfunction.

There's so much animosity and mistrust nothing can get done.

And it’s only going to get worse.

At this point it's probably safe to assume the wall isn't going to be built.

I doubt that very much. I think it will get built.

It was a pretty stupid idea to begin with and a massive waste of limited funds that are better spent elsewhere.

Having a sovereign nation and border security is a “stupid idea?” Wow!

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

US Supreme Court is 5-4 conservative judges

Dunno about that, cla68. What Trump appears to be arguing is that the presidency can ignore both federal and state laws if it feels like it. That doesn't sound particularly conservative.

And stocktrader - yes, Fresno would disappear without migrant labor, much of it illegal, to tend to its crops. The group of migrants legalized under Reagan's amnesty are not numerous enough and are getting old, and no one else is willing to do such back-breaking labor. Many farms have raised their wages to $15/hour and still can't attract enough workers. The result is food withering on the vine, which is bad for everyone.

Middle ground, folks. Border enforcement can be beefed up without a wall, and multi-year visas can be issued to farm workers. This ain't rocket science.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Don't be coy. Is a big honking wall literally the only way sovereign nations secure their sovereignty and security? The world would have a thousand of those suckers erected if that were true.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It was a pretty stupid idea to begin with and a massive waste of limited funds that are better spent elsewhere.

For example the trillion dollars that has been spent in Afghanistan.

Yes, that's right, a trillion.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

65 countries in the world do have some type of wall. California politicians are really insistent on allowing their illegal voters to come and go as they please for some reason.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

If by some type of wall you are including metal fences, one already exists along the US-Mexico border. So how is a wall going to be more effective than the existing fence? Is the new wall somehow ladder and tunnel proof to stop those who are highly motivated to cross that way?

America seems to be gridlocked in a permanent state of dysfunction.

It's not dysfunction for institutions to resist ridiculous and expensive ideas that won't solve problems that may not even be as serious as claimed, but which symbolically function as a kind of hate-totem for small-minded bigots who just desperately need to feel superior to someone.

In a democracy, that's called function.

Unfortunately, far too many Trump supporters don't want to live in a democracy. They want to surrender all autonomy to an all-powerful dictator who governs absolutely and by personal whim.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I love California. And I am sure the California bashers will show up, but who cares? Most are just jealous they don't live in this beautiful state with their great climate, amazing parks and beaches and mountains, and healthy strong economy. Great job by their AG to try and get the tRump administration to follow the law.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

China built a great wall to keep out foreigners. Maybe one day this will also be a World Heritage site.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Isn't that a wall in the picture?  so part of one has already been built?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes, a metal wall/fence is already in place, making the proposal redundant. The problem with the old wall is that it is not shiny enough for Trump's taste, as he prefers gold embossed panels on his government projects. Also needs to determine how many taco salad restaurants it will be feasible to include in the boondoggle.

Excellent!

My guess is that some land owners in Texas and Arizona will be suing as well.

DJT's 14th century solution to a 21st century challenge.

How about Real Immigration Reform?

"The Constitution does not permit government officials to unilaterally and arbitrarily waive any law of their choosing....

Not only does the Constitution permit it, but it explicitly gives that power to the head of the executive branch in Article II, Section 1. It's called an executive order, Presidents use it all the time. Like when Jimmy Carter issued an executive order back in '77 waiving the Selective Service Act and pardoning Vietnam era draft resisters.

.......including criminal laws and laws enacted by the States,"

The Supremacy clause in Article VI of the Constitution states that Federal law is the supreme law of the land, this has been interpreted by the SCOTUS to mean that the states may not interfere with the functioning of the federal government and that federal law always prevails over state law when there is an inconsistency.

So clearly the Constitution states federal law trumps state law and, that as the head executive of the federal government, the president of the United States can "unilaterally and arbitrarily waive any law of their choosing, including criminal laws and laws enacted by the States".

"The Trump Administration.......and that includes the President.

I thought this lawsuit was about the environment but apparently it's just AG Becerra's move to make his political bones with the resistance.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

blacklabel: California politicians are really insistent on allowing their illegal voters to come and go as they please for some reason.

Of course. Everyone knows California is really a red state that keeps electing Democrats because of the illegals who tip the scale in our favor. It's all a plan they came up with to make up for the shortfall in left-wing voters. In California.

Just ask bass. He'll confirm that CA is conservative and nothing like a loony liberal La La Land. It's just the illegals who make it seem that way on election day.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It seems like the US has developed an "I will Sue you" Culture, whereby everyone always seems to be sueing someone else. It doesn't strike me as a very pleasant place to live, constantly living in fear of being sued. The only winners, appear to be the Lawyers.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

There already is a wall along much of the border between California and Mexico. Why didn't California sue to block the construction of that?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

My point exactly, Scrote.  The picture shows it.  anyway, not sure why a physical barrier is being so reviled.  Legal ones haven't worked to stem the flow of illegals.

and plenty of other countries have physical fences/walls.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

To stop illegals in the USA, just setup a bounty for capture by registered agents who deliver them to ICE locations. Have a penalty for any non-illegals "captured" that is 100x more. No wall needed.

Let's put low-skilled Americans back to work.

BTW, there isn't an existing fence between all parts of the Mexican/American border. It is just near populated areas. Unpopulated places usually have nothing. Ranches line both sides of the border.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well seeing as California is refusing to turn over their voter records to the fraud commission guess we can't know. 11 counties were found to have more votes cast than registered voters. No one finds this unusual when voter turnout is usually half or so?

of course just like New Hampshire Dem leaders try to explain it away without providing any actual proof. I believe Judicial Watch had filed a lawsuit to get to the bottom of this.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Walls exist in populated areas and at road crossings. A good innovation I saw recently is a sliding fence impervious to cars that could be opened and closed by authorities with a berm on either side extending for a kilometer - this keeps the cars out but allows wildlife to cross.

Where walls don't exist are areas in the middle of the friggin' desert (where most crossers are easily spotted and often hope to be before they die of thirst or heatstroke) and the Rio Grande. Ironically, the vast majority of those who own land along that river voted for Trump, but there's no way in hell they'll allow him to block their access to the river (and that river is about 1/3 of the entire border). Trump's got more to worry about with Texas than with California.

The wall will never, ever be built - lawsuits will outlast the Trump administration, and the next president, regardless of party, will drop it.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@the Fu, you're right that the fence doesn't go everywhere, and the ranches you mention are part of that. A primary water source of the Southwest, the Rio Grande river, is one section of the U.S.-Mexico border. Ranching is a water intensive business. If the U.S. wants to cede Rio Grande access over to Mexico by putting walls to the north of it, no border ranchers are going to cause a fuss? Just one small example of why the people who live down on the border understand the situation better than some out of touch New York millionaire.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well seeing as California is refusing to turn over their voter records to the fraud commission guess we can't know. 11 counties were found to have more votes cast than registered voters.

You'll believe anything: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/the-conversation/sd-california-more-voters-than-eligible-adults-claim-20170809-htmlstory.html

You literally think California, of all places, is engaged in a secret, illegal, coordinated effort by dozens if not hundreds of public officials, to bring in illegals to vote Democrat? Because they would lose elections otherwise? Because California is really a red state?

You have a brain. Use it. Stop peddling Breitbart and Alex Jones and literally sit down and think of what you're saying,

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Anything and everything the Trump administration attempts to do must be R E S I S T E D and F O U G H T tooth and nail.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If they gave all the illegals a work visa, paid them minimum wages with health insurance

Cali would build the wall tomorrow!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Having a sovereign nation and border security is a “stupid idea?” Wow!

Not the smartest of comments. The original comment was about wasting money. What do you mean by 'border security'? Literally stopping people crossing the border or preventing people being able to take up residence in the USA? Either way, there seem to be cheaper and probably more effective options. (I live not so far from Hadrian's Wall. Another vanity project.)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

lol, it is always amusing watching the moron left wing socialists running California make their pathetic attempts at nothing to seem like they, are doing something and do it based on their deluded interpretation of reality. the constitution does in fact state federal law supersedes state law. and the left wings own guy Bill Clinton already signed the law to build the, wall way back in the 1990s and both Clinton and Bush built some of that wall already. so as usual the left wing is making noise to pretend to do something, when in fact they are doing nothing. meanwhile those, same California Democrats are raking in billions for themselves off that high speed train to and from nowhere..

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

You literally think California, of all places, is engaged in a secret, illegal, coordinated effort by dozens if not hundreds of public officials, to bring in illegals to vote Democrat?

Yup, pretty much. I lived for 40 years in California, you have to be from Mars and a complete moron to think it doesn’t happen.

Because they would lose elections otherwise? Because California is really a red state?

It was, but the Northern California fascists have been instrumental in stomping out any conservative opposition, but I guess it’s fair, the conservatives do the same against Democrats, with the exception minus the illegal aliens.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

So California is a blue state? I'm confused.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I really wish that people would give up on the inaccurate and incorrect idea that illegal immigrants are necessary for the economy because they "do jobs that Americans won't do". It's untrue, and insulting to both groups.

Americans are more than willing to do myriad dirty/dangerous jobs- how many are coal miners, fishermen, etc? What they AREN'T willing to do is to do such jobs for low wages. This is where the illegals come in. They artificially lower the cost of labour by flooding the market with bodies. Turn off the flow of illegal workers, and wages would rise for legal residents, encouraging them to take on more strenuous work.

Plus, a lack of illegal labour would have minimal effect on the price of agricultural products and other goods. Lettuce might go up by a dime, restaurant meals up by a buck or so, but the upside would be that legal residents were employed.

A wall would be instrumental in curbing the flow. Follow up with harsh penalties on employers who exploit illegal immigrants, and the problem would be a long way towards solved.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It has with the influx of illegal aliens and giving them huge entitlements.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So again....California is a conservative state but the illegals the Democrats bring in tilt the election scales in favor of Democrats? Otherwise Cali would be a red state?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but the illegals the Democrats bring in tilt the election scales in favor of Democrats? Otherwise Cali would be a red state?

Read what I wrote above, I really don’t like repeating myself, but yes, it was.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Was as in 2016?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

More like 1987

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You literally think California, of all places, is engaged in a secret, illegal, coordinated effort by dozens if not hundreds of public officials, to bring in illegals to vote Democrat? Because they would lose elections otherwise? Because California is really a red state?

Then explain to me how 100-120% of registered voters cast a ballot? And my source isnt Breitbart or Alex Jones, its the local newspaper of that area.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/450413/registered-voters-outnumber-eligible-voters-least-462-counties

Explain this with facts, not just slippery words and maybes. There are more people registered to vote than adult US citizens who live in these 462 counties in the USA. How can this be?

Non citizens voted in Philly too.

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/politics/philly-voter-fraud-trump-immigrants-registration-commissioners-penndot-20170920.html

Just like the unmaskings and wiretappings more and more info coming out every day that makes what conservatives have been saying sound less and less 'crazy'. Clapper didnt know anything about any surveillance, Rice didnt know anything about an unmaskings, but now they do. Illegal voting is headed in the same direction.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Oh and just to help:

By percentage, however, the share of eligible Americans who actually complete ballots is not expected to be anywhere near a record. It has been nearly a half-century since 60 percent of voting-age adults voted. That last happened in 1968.

So there were more ballots cast than registered voters in these places. Yet its been almost 50 years since an average of 60% of registered voters actually voted?

So yes I would assume they dont want the wall built in California. Plus this is a nice little distraction for Mr. Becerra to try to talk about something else besides his involvement in the Wasserman Schultz/Awan case.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Have you ever 1) read any of the articles debunking the junk science of Judicial Watch or 2) read any of the court cases throwing these laws out and the reasons why or 3) actually researched something on your own without being spoonfed links from fringe right websites?

If you had, you wouldn't be going around trying to tell the world that California is importing illegals because there just aren't enough Democrats in the state. On its face it's absurd and laughable. Even bass won't go there.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

If you had, you wouldn't be going around trying to tell the world that California is importing illegals because there just aren't enough Democrats in the state.

Sorry, I lived and was born in California, I trust my eyes, experience over what anyone else says.

On its face it's absurd and laughable.

As long as I’ve been on this planet and been through what I’ve been through, it’s laughable for anyone to think people like me who were born and raised in California to think that it’s not the case, now that absurd and very sad.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

it is always amusing watching the moron left wing socialists running California

In which parallel dimension is this happening? The Dems are hardly "left wing socialists".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, I lived and was born in California, I trust my eyes, experience over what anyone else says.

And what does your experience say? Do you agree with black that California is importing illegals to vote Democrat to overcome the conservative majority that exists in the state? Are all of the "loony liberals" who have "destroyed the state" really the minority?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In which parallel dimension is this happening? The Dems are hardly "left wing socialists".

So they are just morons destroying California then.

And what does your experience say? Do you agree with black that California is importing illegals to vote Democrat to overcome the conservative majority that exists in the state?

Yes, without a doubt.

Are all of the "loony liberals" who have "destroyed the state" really the minority?

Now they are, a lot of conservatives left, they see the state going downhill and if it weren't for Silicon Valley keeping that state afloat, the country would be a literal 3rd world sewer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So a lot of conservatives have left CA, and they still maintain a majority? That's fascinating to me. I'd always thought CA was a solid blue state....but looks like I was wrong. Looney conservatives must be sinking the place.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So a lot of conservatives have left CA, and they still maintain a majority?

Not in California

That's fascinating to me. I'd always thought CA was a solid blue state

No, it was not, but now it is.

....but looks like I was wrong. Looney conservatives must be sinking the place.

Not only were you wrong, but all the Hollyweird and Silicon Valley geeks are the death of that once great State.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So conservatives are the minority....yet the Dems bring in illegals to get their votes? Even when we have the majority already?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So conservatives are the minority....

In California, yes.

yet the Dems bring in illegals to get their votes?

Yes.

Even when we have the majority already?

With a majority and with the influx of illegal aliens that pass through the radar and once settled in the Dems give a smorgasbord of entitlements, who would you vote for, the people that want a secure border most conservatives or the open border people that look the other way (Democrats)?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yup, pretty much. I lived for 40 years in California, you have to be from Mars and a complete moron to think it doesn’t happen.

Not true. Reagan granted 3M green cards. The story of the Democrat congress promising to make the wall is false. This is all on Reagan.

give a smorgasbord of entitlements

Because of Reagan's amnesty. Millions and millions! All on Reagan's watch.

And Trump is breaking his promise on mass deportation.

The wall won't work anyway since the illegals will just use ladders and catapults. And Mexico won't pay for the wall. And Trump broke his promise to trash NAFTA.

the open border people

Reagan

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not true. Reagan granted 3M green cards. The story of the Democrat congress promising to make the wall is false. This is all on Reagan.

No it was on Tipper and the Dems on the promise if Reagan grants them amnesty they would close the wall, the Dems didn’t and lied. Trump’s not going to make that mistake.

The wall won't work anyway since the illegals will just use ladders and catapults. And Mexico won't pay for the wall. And Trump broke his promise to trash NAFTA.

And then once the Wall is built and Mexico pays for it and increased border surveillance as well as harsher penalties and more border agents and German Shepherds, we won’t have to worry about ladders, dogs can jump high as well. Trump renegotiated NAFTA and thank God on that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No it was on Tipper and the Dems

No, Reagan signed it. It was his poor leadership. It was all on him. And when is Trump going to completely ban the dreamers? Looks like Reagan Amnesty Part II. All on Trump.

Mexico pays for it

How? They said they won't pay. Who is going to pay for all those dogs. People don't want dogs on their private property which is where a lot of the border runs.

Trump renegotiated NAFTA and thank God on that.

No, NAFTA is still there. Another Trump failure.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why would Democrats engage in an illegal and extremely risky "plan" to bring in illegals to vote for them when they already have the majority? I don't see any reward for the risk.
