Democrat-led states are pushing legislation aimed at expanding voting access while many Republican-led states are trying to tighten it amid baseless accusations of widespread voter fraud by former President Donald Trump and other GOP leaders.

Sales of popcorn and blood pressure pills are going through the roof November 2024.

What could possibly go wrong? /s

In a state with a huge transient population, where people move constantly, with millions of illegal aliens... what could possibly go wrong?

How about this- if you want to vote, register beforehand with proof of your eligibility. Failing that, go to the polls and register in person, again with some basic proof of citizenship. If you are disabled, apply for special dispensation to vote by mail.

Not so hard, is it? If you drive, have a bank account, rent property, have a credit card, pay taxes, have kids in school, receive government assistance, then you probably have ID. If not, then it is easy to get, usually for free. Just takes a minimal amount of effort. Costs can be borne by the state if necessary.

Yes. What could possibly go wrong?

If you drive, have a bank account, rent property, have a credit card, pay taxes, have kids in school, receive government assistance, then you probably have ID

What percentage of that "huge" transient population does any of that?

Costs can be borne by the state if necessary.

They could, but aren't. Why do Republicans, who claim to love Democracy, so against covering costs associated with applying for voter ID? Personally, I'd have a lot less problem with voter ID laws if you made them free, provided a way for people to apply for them (either by mandating time off or expanding office hours), and making election day a national holiday.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Latest stats show that 89% of American adults have a drivers licence, 94% have a bank account. I am assuming a mobile, transient population would have one or both. Otherwise, it is kinda hard to move around and be transient.

As for the cost, as of 2015 it cost less than $25 to get photo id in 43 states. Plus, there are fee waiver/reduction plans in 33 states, including many of those with higher costs. California is among them, with a fee waiver for those in need.

If a person is among the 3% of the population that doesn't have any form of ID and is unwilling to make the minimal effort needed to get a free one, I don't want that person voting. Ditto if a person has no excuse other than laziness not to vote in person.

I guess you’ll just have to concede all the states with mail in ballots then. Too bad.

My California absentee ballot arrives like clockwork. "Voter fraud" is simply an excuse to make it harder to vote in the GOP hope that it will disenfranchise Dems more than Repubs. Penalties for voter fraud are huge. Why would someone take such a risk for so miniscule a return?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Good to know that there is still some decency, fair play, common sense and development.. Not like in the deep Trumpish south..

Great news for illegals and foreigners and anyone that wants to vote once or twice or as many times if they want. The best advice to anyone miserable in California is, get out and run and don’t look back. The States is being the fastest 3rd world State in the Union.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

I like how it gives you time to fill out your ballot and make informed choices.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"Voter fraud" is simply an excuse to make it harder to vote in the GOP hope that it will disenfranchise Dems more than Repubs.

No, it just makes it harder to cheat. But that’s California, glad I left and let the big tech geeks and the richest of people to own and do as they please, and the poor will continue to be poor, the crime rate will continue to rise and there will be no effort to to improve on anything, so why live in that misery when you can live better, safer and happier with less drama. California is pretty much done at least for the middle class and poor.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

All of that statement is meaningless.

To the rich and powerful elite not in touch with reality, it is.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Laguna: is it REALLY that hard to vote in person? If it is too much effort for a person to drag their butt to a polling station, then maybe they aren't invested in or interested in the election enough. Especially in places with advance polling, long voting hours, etc. Barring physical disability or physical absence from your district, I can't see any reason to accept anything other than in person voting.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

How about this- if you want to vote, register beforehand with proof of your eligibility.

Good idea. Probably why it's in the very first line of the article.

Every registered California voter will get a ballot mailed to them in future elections under a bill signed Monday by Democratic Gov Gavin Newsom.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

How does California compare with your 30 years living in Germany and 20 years in Japan? I guess more often than not you vote by absentee ballots?

What?

You're literally a billionaire,

Not a billionaire…..sadly not yet, but be that as it may, when you have money and you choose to live in the most secure areas and can afford the best real estate and buy the best firearms or hire the best top notch private security, then California might be a great place for you. You don’t need to subject yourself to live with the poor and less fortunate or illegals.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

California has certainly found that "winning formula" of just mailing out ballots to everyone, even if they have moved or didnt ask for one.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Every registered California voter

So i assume they didnt fix that issue with illegal aliens/non citizens getting automatically registered to vote when they get a drivers license?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

California has certainly found that "winning formula" of just mailing out ballots to everyone, even if they have moved or didnt ask for one.

Exactly.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

So i assume they didnt fix that issue with illegal aliens/non citizens getting automatically registered to vote when they get a drivers license?

Given that it isn't an issue, there was nothing to fix.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Laguna: is it REALLY that hard to vote in person? If it is too much effort for a person to drag their butt to a polling station, then maybe they aren't invested in or interested in the election enough

Or maybe they're living hand to mouth and can't take time off work. You're the one that wants to make it harder for people to exercise their constitutional rights, so the onus is on you; Why shouldn't people be allowed to vote by mail? There is zero evidence of widespread voter fraud.

California has certainly found that "winning formula" of just mailing out ballots to everyone, even if they have moved or didnt ask for one.

Republicans have certainly found that "winning formula" of preventing blacks and people of color from voting. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/north-carolina-court-rejects-republican-photo-voter-id-law-unconstitutional-2021-09-17/

Great news for illegals and foreigners and anyone that wants to vote once or twice or as many times if they want.

Nah, they'd have to invoke that law in Florida and New Jersey so all the illegals employed at Mar-A-Lago and Bedminster could vote...

The best advice to anyone miserable in California is, get out and run and don’t look back. The States is being the fastest 3rd world State in the Union.

More like the 5th largest economy in the world....

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/california-now-has-the-worlds-5th-largest-economy/

So tell us where Red Mississippi, Arkansas, and Kentucky rank?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Oh so you are unaware that thousands of non citizens were registered to vote in California by a "glitch" at the DMV?

Or you are aware and its just not an "issue" for you?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Republicans have certainly found that "winning formula" of preventing blacks and people of color from voting.

Ahhh, asking for ID is racist, so the left doesn’t make that argument when they board a plane or go to a hospital or when a cop pulls them over or when they buy a house, take out a loan, it’s just racist when it comes to voting. ROFL

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

yeah the same people who are against voter ID as "racist" have no problem in making people show a photo ID along with their vaccination proof to enter a restaurant or a shop now.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Ahhh, asking for ID is racist, so the left doesn’t make that argument when they board a plane or go to a hospital or when a cop pulls them over or when they buy a house, take out a loan, it’s just racist when it comes to voting. ROFL

lmao Because none of those things you've listed are constitutional rights, unlike voting. Anyway, don't argue with me; take it up with the NC justices who ruled the state's voting ID laws are racist.

Or you are aware and its just not an "issue" for you?

That didn't happen, though.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Takeda; California offers polling from 700am to 800pm, plus early voting. Plus I have no objection to people who genuinely can't get to the poll voting by mail. But purely on an on-demand and case-by-case basis.

Asking for voter ID is not racist. I think it is racist to assume that minorities are too lazy, poor, or dumb to have or obtain voter ID. The classic 'soft bigotry of low expectations'.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

That didn't happen, though.

it actually did. A 5 second Google search can educate you.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Simple question. How do Germany and Japan compare with living in California? You must vote mostly by absentee ballot since you are mostly out of the country

Huh???

That didn't happen, though.

Ahhh, because the police report and the liberal media reporting on it is just a lie, eh,

lmao Because none of those things you've listed are constitutional rights, unlike voting.

No, you just can’t make an excuse for this, not a single liberal can. If you are required to have an ID for everything else you need in daily life, voting is no less an exception, nice try and 27 States are just not buying this at all. Show your ID and if you don’t want to, then your social will suffice and that takes the argument from the left out of the equation.

Anyway, don't argue with me;

I’m not, I’m just happy that other States are making it now easier for people to vote and harder to cheat and if you don’t have ID at least as an American you have a social, that’s the other way we can identify who you say you are. The racist argument just doesn’t hold water anymore. It’s a losing argument for the left.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I took more than 5 seconds. There is no evidence for your claim. Among roughly 105,000 registration errors, one noncitizen was registered in 2018, but that's it. There is no evidence otherwise.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Takeda; California offers polling from 700am to 800pm, plus early voting. Plus I have no objection to people who genuinely can't get to the poll voting by mail. But purely on an on-demand and case-by-case basis.

That isn't an answer. Why shouldn't we allow mail in voting? Please be specific.

Asking for voter ID is not racist.

The courts in North Carolina disagree with you on the matter. Are you an attorney?

I think it is racist to assume that minorities are too lazy, poor, or dumb to have or obtain voter ID. The classic 'soft bigotry of low expectations'.

Except the voter laws disproportionately affect people of color. See the ABA's position on the matter:

2 ( +4 / -2 )

No, you just can’t make an excuse for this, not a single liberal can.

Lmao Not an excuse. Do you not understand the difference between a right and a privilege? If you are over the age of 18, and are a citizen of the US, you can vote in elections. That is an inalienable right, protected and enshrined in the constitution.

Where does the constitution say that you have the right to board an airplane or enter Bubba's BBQ pit without a mask or vaccination? No such right exists.

The racist argument just doesn’t hold water anymore. It’s a losing argument for the left.

No, no, it still holds water. See the North Carolina case.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The courts in North Carolina disagree with you on the matter.

That’s one court. Texas and 25 other States disagree and they have lawyers representing them as well. Again, you need an ID on a plane, even the Taliban are using our biometric readers to identify who they consider to be traders that helped allied forces.

The left need to try and create a new argument, the race issue and voter ID issue continues to fall on its head.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Lmao Not an excuse. Do you not understand the difference between a right and a privilege?

Rich liberals in California are privileged that want to take the rights of all Californians..

If you are over the age of 18, and are a citizen of the US, you can vote in elections. That is an inalienable right, protected and enshrined in the constitution.

Yes and you need to know in 26 States produce ID in one form or another, if not, why do we need to have an ID to purchase a house? Again, more States thankfully are waking up to the liberal narrative farce.

.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yes and you need to know in 26 States produce ID in one form or another, if not, why do we need to have an ID to purchase a house?

Takeda has been very clear on why. You do not have a right to a house. You have a right to vote.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

In a state with a huge transient population, where people move constantly, with millions of illegal aliens... what could possibly go wrong?

You have to register at your new address to be able to vote. Even moving within the same city I had to do this.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Takeda has been very clear on why. You do not have a right to a house.

That wasn’t the issue, the issue is whether you want a house or an apartment or anywhere where you want to live, you need to show a picture ID unless you’re moving in with a relative, other than that if you don’t have an ID you cannot rent and you cannot buy anything particularly a car or at home.

there needs to be verification of who you say you are, that’s like that everywhere, and voting should be no exception, we need to verify who is a citizen and who is not a citizen who voted wants and without an ID there’s no way you can verify it, I understand liberals don’t like this big change that’s slowly happening, but that’s some thing they just have to deal with and if California wants to continue practicing along with anyone and everyone can vote, that’s on California but the rest of the states in the numbers growing don’t need to follow what California is doing. Thank God they finally waking up to this.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Simple question. How do Germany and Japan compare with living in California?

Not living in California he cannot possibly answer that question honestly.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

No, you just can’t make an excuse for this, not a single liberal can. If you are required to have an ID for everything else you need in daily life, voting is no less an exception

The difference is that voting is a right all citizens possess. Buying something with a credit card isn't a right. This is not a subtle difference. The right uses ID requirements as a way to prevent the poor and minorities, who have less access to the necessary IDs than wealthier whites as a way to disenfranchise those groups and deny them from exercising their solemn right to vote.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

That wasn’t the issue, the issue is whether you want a house or an apartment or anywhere where you want to live, you need to show a picture ID unless you’re moving in with a relative, other than that if you don’t have an ID you cannot rent and you cannot buy anything particularly a car or at home.

You don't have a right to those things. You do have a right to vote.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Bob Fosse- forensic audits coming to Democrat-run Texas cities...how much do you think they cheated by 100's of thousands or millions?

Bring it. Don’t forget to look for bamboo fibers.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Yes, you have a right to vote IF you are a citizen. That is the sticking point- how to prove your citizenship. If you can tell me how to do so without any form of identification, I would love to know.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yes, you have a right to vote IF you are a citizen. That is the sticking point- how to prove your citizenship.

Are you referring to the millions of illegal immigrants who voted of whom there is no evidence except in the fear fueled minds sore losers?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You don't have a right to those things. You do have a right to vote.

As Long as you have some form of verification. How many countries are there, first world nations that don’t require a form of ID?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

For all the worry about voter fraud, there has yet to be any proof provided that any exists beyond 10 ballots per state. Nothing that would change any election outcome.

Worry about things that matter, please. Voter fraud isn't one of them.

Also, over 50% of the people living in the south are NOT for Trump and don't think all the hoops required to register and vote are necessary. Actually, Ohio has stricter voting and registration than we do in Georgia, so it isn't exclusively a Southern thing.

The idea that people have to register to vote is often something odd to people in other countries. That's because the govt doesn't have a registration for where we live or any other mandatory registration that is required when we start living somewhere new. The voter registration is really all there is that is tied to the govt. It is possible to live in America and not tell the govt much about where you live if you don't drive or own property or a vehicle. We don't tell the govt where we live for health insurance. We don't have to update the IRS when we move. And in many states the police cannot force us to show ID if we are walking down the street (on a side walk). Plus, the govt computer systems aren't setup with a centralized DB shared by every department to keep track of commonly needed data. That is all stored per department and only if you need to provide it.

I wish Georgia would mail absentee ballots to everyone, automatically, if they request it and no other govt record updates make them believe the person has relocated. I also like the idea of dropping off my ballot in a secured box at 9pm , when it is convenient to me sometime before election day. This limits the postal load and "lost in the mail" parts of voting. Today, when I request an absentee ballot (by fax), I have to provide my state DL/ID number as proof I am me. I can't request the ballot too far in advance of the election - perhaps 6-8 weeks. On the outer envelop which gets returned with an inner envelop holding the actual anonymous ballot, there is a place to enter the DL again. If I moved, the person who took over probably won't know my DL#. That isn't something that people memorize or share. Basically, the chance of fraud that wouldn't be caught are tiny.

Worry about things that can actually happen. Voter fraud just isn't one of them.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I didn’t see Afghanistan, Haitians or the economy mentioned once in the article.

I didn’t see the truth from the left when they said, all of these issues were ok.

You’re wandering again. Keep on point

No, just going by the lefts failed attempt to lecture people that everything they do has a great and successful outcome. More Pinocchio’s for them.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

For all the worry about voter fraud, there has yet to be any proof provided that **any exists beyond 10 ballots per state. Nothing that would change any** election outcome.

The left say, nothing bad happened in Afghanistan, they say no Americans were left behind, they said the economy is doing great, despite all the businesses that are closing, they say race relations are great, when everything proves the opposite, they say there is no problem along the southern border, The left continue to say most Haitians have been sent back, we are now we know that is simply not true, so essentially the left say a lot of things and no one believes them in voting is an exception.

Wow, pretty blatant dodge, even for you. The issue is voter fraud and the lack of any evidence substantiating it - as shown in the Arizona audit and Trump's 0-62 record in court....not Afghanistan, the border, or race relations. Are any of those topics included in the above article? Another weak deflection when you can't respond to the topic...

Remember when the Trump supporters here were all saying "just wait until the Arizona audit is done".....well, it's done and they found no fraud and 360 more votes for Biden...

What do you have to say about that?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Does everyone realize that lots of places in Europe require showing an ID to vote?

This shouldn't be a big deal anywhere, except if you live in a village of 200 people where everyone knows each other.

There are 700K people in my county and 5M+ in the area. the chance that anyone at the poll location will know me is nearly zero. They need an ID to ensure I am who is listed in the voter registration recordbook they check before I'd be allowed to vote in person.

For people with common names, it is even more important for the exact ID to be checked.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes, you have a right to vote IF you are a citizen. That is the sticking point- how to prove your citizenship. If you can tell me how to do so without any form of identification, I would love to know.

You're going to lose it when you find out about voter registration.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

As Long as you’re registered within the system and your local city hall. In order to do that you need ID and proof of verification, they don’t just blindly send everyone an Voter ballot. Don’t even start that. Lol

Guess how it works in California. If you read the article you’ll find a hint or two.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Dozens. Didn't you say you lived in Germany? They don't.

In Germany you have to be registered in your local city ward and you have to have a picture ID and then once that is in the system, then you don’t need it, because they can always verify it. So yeah, keep spinning.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

In Germany you have to be registered in your local city ward and you have to have a picture ID and then once that is in the system, then you don’t need it, because they can always verify it. So yeah, keep spinning.

Oh, like in California, then? Good. Sounds like a good system.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It is genuinely amazing how many people against "blargh bargh unregistered voters" literally didn't (can't?) read the first line of the article.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's the second word, guys, come on!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Oh, like in California, then? Good. Sounds like a good system.

unlike California, Germany does have laws to ensure the protection and integrity of voting rights, unlike California that basically will allow anyone to vote, if they were so honest about it, then why is it that in California they won’t even allow auditing. If you have nothing to hide then it shouldn’t be a problem. But we are talking about California so…

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

California does have voting laws, actually. That's what the article is about. Do try to keep up.

California will not allow "basically anyone" to vote. It allows registered voters to vote. That's a good thing. I know Republicans don't like voting, because it means they lose, but you have to understand that this is the system we have.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

https://townhall.com/columnists/johnrlottjr/2021/09/14/very-concerning-evidence-of-vote-fraud-in-california-recall-election-n2595826

California does have voting laws,

But none of them are followed, never have been.

California will not allow "basically anyone" to vote.

You can say that, the evidence supports that they do cheat.
