I tend to get worried when I see the same people who create a problem come out and offer solutions.

Too much to expect an invitation from Assad for the Syria incursions, or UN support?

Kudos to Cameron.

The RAF is already participating in airstrikes in Iraq. “The United Kingdom will do all in our power to support our friend and ally France to defeat this evil death cult,”

In addition, how about striking Riyadh, Mecca and Medina from the air?? Go after ISIS's head, cut it from it's body.

The man has got guts and knows and calls these Jihadists out for what they really are.

Russian Foreign Ministry: “If it [UK] wants to push its ideas through the Security Council it should… give an order to its ambassador at the United Nations to start consultations, including with Russia.”

But any measure is problematic because many lawmakers fear revisiting the chaotic situation that occurred in the Iraq war,

And continues to this day as a result of that world changing mistake. It's a bit reassuring that there are still some willing to think before they risk opening another Pandora's box that could make things even worse.

Yesterday you suggested Iran bomb Mecca and Medina. Do you still think that, or have you come to understand how unrealistic that suggestion was?

"Of course the U.K. and the rest of the West won't do what would be most effective: implement economic sanctions on Saudi Arabia until the corrupt, despotic regime there ends financial support of the IS."

A very lucid and commonsensical post. That won't wash with many here who want to see IS wiped out with cool footage of missile strikes and body bags coming home. They'll be clamouring for it again when the next batch of headcases crop up a few years down the line. The same crowd in the UK are forever moaning about the hate preachers radicalising the youth in mosques built with Saudi money.

Cameron is just saying whatever the rightist headbanging cannibals on his backbenches want to hear in the hope they won't eat him over the EU referendum. Brave my arse. They're already heating the pot.

Yeah, yeah...well in the meantime, I hope he does whatever it takes to dispose of ISIS. By any means necessary.

Yeah, yeah. So not brave then. I can see why you like him - he changes his views on this situation with the wind.

@Doo-Bop "I tend to get worried when I see the same people who create a problem come out and offer solutions." Implying Cameron caused and created isis?? Haha I'm glad I don't take crystal meth

@Rick Shinjuku I think he's talking about the Brits. By the way, the idiot Cameron did vote for joining the idiotic invasion of Iraq. So yes, he does shoulder some blame for the chaos in that area.

Porky Dave has no idea what he is doing. Two years ago, clueless men like David Cameron and Barack Obama wanted to bomb Assad in Syria, which would have been of benefit to ISIS. As we Brits clearly have no idea what we are doing, what side we are on, or even what the sides really are, the best thing to do is to not join in the bombing. To defeat IS we need to form a full coalition involving countries like US, UK, China, Russia, France, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Syria and achieve a consensus on what actions to take. Western powers bombing the crap out of the Middle East for the last decade without support from major Islamic nations has got us nowhere. The removal of men like Saddam Hussein has led to the arrival of groups like IS in the vacuums we left behind. Our failed strategy is now very clear to all of us and should not be compounded by yet more bombing by Dave's depleted military.

As I recall, wasn't it a Barack Hussein Obama that threatened Assad with the now infamous Red Line threat and then walked it back and the same man that said, ISIS was on the run and that Al Qaida was defeated. But the main difference is at least Cameron will call out ISIS and not give any BS excuse, like him or not is irrelevant. The man is calling the terrorists by what they really are and Barack chastises the media and the press and gives boring lectures of why his so called plans at defeating ISIS is working. Before I used to laugh at the guy, but now, the man is starting make me wonder if he's working with a full load.

@Bass I was pointing out how wrong he was on Iraq. I also alluded to how wrong he was in wanting to bomb Assad ( thankfully he was defeated by the voices of common sense in parliament on this idiotic, half-baked idea ). This guy is at your level for thinking bombing and invasions are the solution. His judgement, like yours, clearly isn't up to scratch.

He's not to be trusted.

RoFL! Yeah, I do. Why not. The Shiite mullahs hate the Sunni & vise versa. How is that unrealistic? Did you miss the whole episode in Yemen? Iran backed Houthis vs their "foes" in Saudi Arabia's own back yard?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@Jimizo Wow, you love referring to the British majority as "idiots" don't you Jimbob. It must be a great feeling to be so proud of oneself and think everyone is an idiot apart from yourself. I wish I was as great as you..

Words worth thinking about. Thanks. Nice post.

No doubt the Shias and the Sunnis have extremist elements that hate each other. My point once again is that Iran's Shias, just like Iran's Sunnis, view Mecca and Medina as holy cities, the places they go for Hadj and Umrah, the cities where Islam began - for both Sunnis and Shia.

I'm curious why you think the Iranians would attack these places. I could understand you if you say the Shias might want to control them, but bomb them? That makes zero sense to me.

Another fine piece of journalistic analysis by the Washington Post's sharpest tack.

Seriously, though, it would be nice to have threads like these not gummed up by the usual troll.
