Arrests roil U.S. campuses nationwide ahead of graduation as protesters demand Israel ties be cut

And arrests should continue if those students break the law. Others should be banned from graduation for violating college policies, and those who are students from other countries should be sent back home.

Look who is currently worrying being next war criminal, those students got it right.

Why support war criminal using tax payer money, war criminal that already proven put its victim to mass grave?

Israel and its supporters have branded the university protests as antisemitic, while critics of Israel say it uses such allegations to silence opponents.

When everything failed just scream this Anti-Semitic , with social media no one can hide doing genocide that caused 30 thousands life.

l these people that are protesting Israel have been validated by the US government, engage in human rights violations,it obviously you do not know American history, the protest at the Boston tea party, led to the liberation of America, from the British later on the Civil Rights movement led the end of segregation and the liberation of blacks from White oppression

Exactly, silencing university president and giving "donation" to congress member that's one thing but silencing students protest which has long history in US, what will happened it will just get louder and louder.

And I think some Trumpian sympathizers may be involved here too. It wouldn't surprise me.

No, it is far left anti-semitic screamers.

Some of those were taunting police chanting "Why are you in riot gear? I don't see no riot here."

So, a question to those "protestors" is, Why are so many of you wearing masks?

-14 ( +7 / -21 )

We all know these protests are being instigated and led by far-right plants, funded by the RNC, and trained by self-confessed dark-arts master Roger Stone...

One far-right plant in particular, Trey Bepps, was at the front of the Columbia protest inciting the small amount of violence that took place...

The peaceful students were just being tourists until hijacked by the far-right instigators - and those arrested are now "hostages"...

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

Why are these protestors pro Hamas? Personally I'd rather live under Israel than Hamas. I don't understand their fixation and their love for Hamas. It's like being pro alqueda in Afghanistan.

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

Attitudes in the younger generation have changed. They're much more critical and reflective about the history of Western imperialism, colonialism and mistreatment of indigenous peoples. Many believe that if they were alive in those times they would have opposed the obvious injustices. Israel is such an injustice manifest in modern times.

The fact that Israel's decades long occupation of the Palestinian people and endless list of atrocities it is currently committing in Gaza is facilitated by American military aid means they are impelled to speak out.

If the current tragedy in Gaza has any silver lining it's that the tide of opinion is shifting against Israel and many people are able to see it for what it is. Ending impunity is the only way to bring Israel back from the brink.

The fact that Israel's decades long occupation of the Palestinian people and endless list of atrocities it is currently committing in Gaza

Then why are they not protesting the American institution and white people for the CENTURIES "long occupation of the" native Americans' land and and "endless list of atrocities"? Same with countries like Australia where the white man rule. It's really weird and inconsistent. They should be protesting outside Apple HQ for the child slave labor in the African region that dig for those rare earths to build the next iPhone. Where are they getting their news? From TikTok or something? I'd rather live under the Israeli government then the Hamas. These protestors think that Hamas are good people.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

Yes Yes Yes, Protest, make your voices heard, get arrested and get them medals of honor "handcuffs".

The youth of America in schools and Universities are standing up to this Genocide and Injustice being carried out with the support of their leaders and tax money.

Nowhere is it being reported that there are pro-Hamas protests happening. I haven't seen or heard a single pro-Hamas sign or chant. You must be observing a different reality.

Being against Israel's actions doesn't mean you're in any way a supporter of Hamas. Your flimsy and worn-out attempt to deligitemize the protests doesn't stand up to much scrutiny.

Palestine hasn't been "occupied" for decades now. What the Palestinians are reaping now are the product of their self-rule and choice of Hamas to govern them.

Are you sure about that? That will include mandatory conscription, which you need lawfully obey.

Attitudes in the younger generation have changed. They're much more critical and reflective about the history of Western imperialism, colonialism and mistreatment of indigenous peoples.

True, and that is with any country throughout history. The difference is, you have crazy radical Marxist teachers pushing a very antagonistic hateful agenda

Many believe that if they were alive in those times they would have opposed the obvious injustices. Israel is such an injustice manifest in modern times.

Protesting is fine and within their constitutional rights, but they don’t have the right to disrupt, attack verbally and physically any student including Jewish students because of their religion. They also don’t have the right to engage the police and to physically confront or defy them, they’re not going to win these idiots. They’re just wasting their time, everyone else’s time and avoiding the inevitable.

The fact that Israel's decades long occupation of the Palestinian people and endless list of atrocities it is currently committing in Gaza is facilitated by American military aid means they are impelled to speak out.

From the 6 day war, the Munich Olympic tragedy in 1972, October 7, the bombings of weddings, the abduction of people like Daniel Pearl, the constant attacks by Hamas, Hezbollah and their sponsors like Iran have for decades tormented the Jewish state in the most violent way through sheer terror.

If the current tragedy in Gaza has any silver lining it's that the tide of opinion is shifting against Israel

I disagree, the difference is that we have to many radicalized teachers that forgot to do their jobs and instead of teaching history and healthy dialogue within the classroom, these Marxists are pushing these students to take a more hostile and violent position. Many of these benign kids don’t even know why they’re protesting.

Is that article even true? Israeli snipers shoot children playing in playgrounds? Why would they do that?

Are you sure about that?

yes. Looks like I have more professional opportunities in Israel.

That will include mandatory conscription

At least if I were a woman I would not have to wear a beekeeper suit under Hamas rule (I'm free to year jeans if I want and not a tent which is "mandatory" under Hamas). And if I were a woman I am free to work any job.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Of course, because we did not see a turnout at all when Syria was killing 600,000 civilians and Yemen was killing 500,000 civilians these psst few years.

Obviously people who turn a blind eye when Arab countries are killing Arabs but when Israel takes international law-compliant measures to defeat terrorism all of a sudden people act as if they are outraged.

Protesting a Genocide is NOT Anti - Semitism.

Of course, because it is Hamas that practices and preaches genocide against the Jews.

Protesting Occupation is NOT Anti - Semitism.

It is when you claim occupation by a people who are rightfully living on their land.

Protesting apartheid is NOT Anti - Semitism.

Apartheid ended in South Africa decades ago.

Protesting Starvation is NOT Anti - Semitism.

Agreed the people in Syria and Yemen need humanitarian aid. But they are Arabs . . .

Protesting Land Theft is NOT Anti - Semitism.

Kind of lost near, because if you are suggesting Israel is stealing land, then from which country is it being stolen?

Protesting Indefinite detention is NOT Anti - Semitism.

If you have a problem with murderers and terrorists and other criminals being locked up, well, you gotta look inside yourself.

Palestine hasn't been "occupied" for decades now. What the Palestinians are reaping now are the product of their self-rule and choice of Hamas to govern them. - USNinJapan2

I assume you're referring to the 2005 disengagement from Gaza? The illegal occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank is still ongoing.

Israel withdrew from Gaza to avoid having to negotiate with the Palestinians which would necessitate giving up illegally aquired land and to instead bolster the illegal settlements in the West Bank. As stated by Ariel Sharon himself.

Israel dismantled the illegal settlements in Gaza and withdrew its military but still controls Gaza's skies, seas, borders, all movement of people and goods in and out of the country, and prior to Oct 7th would carry out regular military incursions and arrests on Gazan territory as well as constant surveillance. That ticks just about every box on the occupation check list. But what do you suppose we call it if not occupation?

It's known that Netanyahu and Israel have long supported Hamas to sew division in Palestinian unity and delegitimise Palestinian nationalism. In the 2006 elections Hamas altered their charter and moderated their political platform in order to participate in the elections. This could have been an opportunity to move Hamas away from political extremism and towards political action rather than violence.

The elections were declared free and a fair by many international observers but the outcome was rejected by Fatah and they colluded with the U.S. and Israel to push them out of the West Bank. The Palestinians voted against the corruption and ineffectual rule of Fatah rather than for Hamas' political platform.

Those are the events that led to the past 17 years of Hamas rule and Israeli occupation in Gaza.

Why do these protestors block highways? It's stupid. The protestors don't even know what they are protesting (they are often too young to understand - OK I understand that) but don't block people and their cars

People should have the ability to air their views and to share their perspectives publicly but it has to be peaceful," Kirby said

The students seem to be pretty peaceful, most of the violence I have seen was a result of police attacking and arresting students, professors and camera crew members. Where is the outrage from those righteous JT experts who are always so ready to condemn arrests of anti war demonstrators in other countries? This stuff only happens in places where dictatorial authorities rule according to them.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Most politically active young people are people who are in university or plan to got university. The same is true for the military.

Biden needs the young people vote to win. Young voters in university are now more likely to vote against him or not at all out of protest. Biden is making the same mistake as Hillary Clinton. They both assumed Trump's incompetence and corruption is enough to overcome their dissatisfaction within their own coalition. That will only matter if Trump is convicted before number of a crime before November.

But free speech is sacrosanct in the US, right? Right?

The US has become the laughing stock of the world. Their politicians on both sides are so corrupt. Paid for by big business and crooked foreign nations.

The public are hung out to dry, whilst their tax dollars are funnelled into endless, meaningless, wars. Then the money they do get to keep is throttled by inflation.

No affordable housing, no affordable health care, streets filled with drug addicts and looters, and now they dont even have the right to complain.

Colleges have rules, just like the real world has rules.

Breaking the rules has repercussions. It isn't like the arrests happen without multiple warnings.

Cart them off to jail if they break the rules. Let them post bail on Monday morning after arraignment or ask their parent to post bail. Let them have that arrest record for the rest of their lives, got to court, probably be convicted and giving 60-100 hours of community service time cleaning trash on the side of State Highways.

For many jobs, this conviction won't matter. It will be a story they tell for 60+ yrs. For the job I had fresh from college, I'd have been fired for any conviction. We protested Apartheid in South Africa when I was at University. My extend was holding a sign in the "approved" protest area on campus for about 10 hours a week for a few weeks. Then I had a chat with my father (newly retired at the time) who thought we were all idiots and that nothing would happen based on the protests. He was shocked when protests in America did help end Apartheid in some small way. He did make a point to tell me not to be arrested, which was brilliant advice giving my field of study and likely career industry. I attended UT-Austin. Most of the protestors causing problems are non-students and them being on campus is technically trespassing.

Peaceful protesting is 100% fine. It is the right of everybody in America, provided they do it on public property or on private property with the owner's approval. If the owner of the property doesn't approve, they need only ask you to leave, then it becomes trespassing, which is illegal. I see protesting as a right for anyone in America, even if I disagree with them. If course, I prefer when the protesting happens in nasty weather when I disagree. ;)

Biden has no part in this, unless protestors are sitting on federal lands. The colleges are either private or state institutions, so Biden has nothing to say. State Governors get to decide.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Those things are wrong and should be stopped.

Absolutely!

But most of the protestors are not saying or doing those things.

Dunno, hundreds of videos on all the social media sites show something very different, maybe not the Majority, but very close to a very large percentage. If you have 100 people and out of that number you have 3 terrorists, that 3 terrorists too many.

99.9% untrue.

No, very, very true.

You seem to have a rather simplistic way of looking at the world. Exploiting circumstances to further your own ideological and political goals has nothing to do with friendship. In much the same way that Hamas gain support and legitimacy through Netanyahu's actions. 2 sides of the same coin.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/

Of course, claims that Netanyahu helped plan the Oct 7th attack are nonsense conspiracy theories. But that's not to say Netanyahu hasn't exploited the atrocity for his own ends. He was probably quite pleased with the events and the opportunities it gave him. In much the same way that some part of Hamas must relish in the atrocities now being visited upon Gaza.
