US has trade wars with everybody else, but everybody else can still trade with each other without trade wars

Since everybody else is free to trade with each other, essentially the US is putting trade sanctions on itself

Think about it - what happens when a nation is put on a trade sanctions?

Answer: everyone else cannot trade freely with that nation, but everyone else is free to trade with each other

And what's happening here?

Meanwhile, the deficit with Russia is ignored by spineless Trump.

"When you insult a country's leader and slap tariffs on their exports based on a national security lie, expect blowback."

When you impose 270% tariffs, expect a blowback.

@theFu, the province of Quebec produces more than enough maple syrup to satisfy domestic demand.

While that is true, they still import syrup from the USA so there is something less than perfect about the situation. Also, with all the protections around dairy, why does Canada still import so much from the USA? Because it is less expensive and meets quality standards.

I love fair trade. The USA subsidizes mainly farm products which doesn't make sense to me. The USGovt paid my mother not to farm some of their land. Good work if you can get it - money for nothing.

You doubt that Trump will hold the line?

Trump should hold the line. Make those red states sacrifice for us costal elites.

Doubt that will happen. Besides, the coastal States have other more depressing things to worry about. LOL

Loser mentality. ketchup, motor boats and lawn mowers?

Many of the U.S. products were chosen for their political rather than economic impact

Get ready to pay more for maple syrup Canada! Canada imports about $20M in maple syrup, mostly from the USA.

It will hurt Vermont, that stronghold of Republicans - ok, perhaps not a stronghold, but we have top people working on it.

Wisconsin isn't exactly a GOP stronghold either.

The solution to all of this is to vastly reduce protectionism. Canada needs to reduce their current 270% tariff on milk products. 270%!!!

@burningaka68 Yogurt and bourbon, what a joke.

Targeting Trump, the GOP, and their backers. Good on Trudeau.

A dollar-for-dollar tit for tat will only work if red-state based companies are targeted.
