Canada polls show Trudeau rival gaining weeks ahead of vote

As a Canadian living abroad, all I can do is shake my head at what my fellow countrymen are about to do. If they do vote for the Conservative party, they will be doing exactly the same thing as the US did when they voted for Trump. They are dooming the country to more privatization, less support for minorities, more tax cuts for the wealthy, less support for green energy, Covid denial, the list goes on.

But, I have faith that these polls are wrong and they will come to their sense and vote for a leader that is caring and compassionate, and not a right wing Trump wannabe!

Trudeau is a spoiled brat.

I don’t know much about the current Conservative leader, but he couldn’t possibly be any worse than the Castro-loving, China- appeasing, virtue-signalling corrupt brat in charge at the moment. Looks like more Canadians are thinking the same.

With Trudeau’s authoritarian approach to COVID restrictions, the best result would be for him to spend the rest of his life behind bars for treason.

This is excellent news! Hopefully he will pay for his selfish decision to call an unnecessary election in the middle of a pandemic. Not a huge fan of OToole (I am a Berneir fan) but he can get the job done if he avoids the usual Liberal traps. He has done well so far.

The "doom and gloom" that MarkX was discussing (tax cuts, privatization, less pandering to political pressure groups) are exactly what the country needs to move forward.

I am a minority here in Japan, but I ask for no support. What support is it that these minorities of Canada are in want of that they can’t obtain for themselves?

If stuff is privatized and special privilege isn’t doled out to certain groups then yes it does follow that less tax revenues would be needed, and one can’t cut the tax rates of those who don’t pay tax to begin with…

Eh? Green energy can’t be financed privately, you say? If it’s so great won’t the rich finance it with those tax cuts you say they’ll be getting?

Trump was a buffoon, and I’d have voted him out for his Covid messaging mistakes alone, yes, but don’t be so eager to denounce reducing the power retained by central government please.

Can’t say I was that impressed. Some policies in there bear similarity to the LDP here in Japan, not good.

Not much talk of tax cuts either.

Another article suggests he is open to free market elements of a health system, which seems like a good idea, but he is cautious about it. Another interesting one was the carbon tax going into personal accounts rather than to the central government, which can only be a good thing.

Ok but nothing to be too excited about. Can’t recall ever being excited about Trudeau either though.

It is kind of sad really. A guy can become PM with such a thin resume... part time drama teacher, product of a previous PM's loins.... and that's all.

Hopefully, Canadians will choose freedom over Trudeau’s leftist fascism.
