Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Saturday it was fraud for GoFundMe to “commandeer” $9 million in donations sent to the Freedom Convoy in support of the truck drivers and said he would work with his state’s attorney general, Ashley Moody, to investigate. “(T)hese donors should be given a refund.”

It’s nice he has something new to focus on after all that hard work forcing religious reflection in schools and suing Facebook, you know, all the serious issues.

Never did hear how those worked out, any updates?

They should be “pushing back” against the Antifa aligned activist who ran over 4 people with his car.

Who are ‘they’?

You know he is under arrest and facing charges right?

You also know the ‘peaceful protest’ has at least 50 criminal cases under investigation right?

If by “they” you mean Canadians, most of them are tired of this and want it to stop.

But the GoP will happily use it for political bleating, which gets shared on sms and then parroted again here.

Ron should be working to help lower the terrible COVID rate in Florida and keeping Publix grocery stores safe from far-right nuts with guns. But then, he is "gutless" as one Florida resident recently said...

As for the protests, they are one more "faux issue" for far-right pols and their media controllers to manipulate and fleece the MAGA-masses...

Anything to turn the attention away from fraudulent electors and fake, forged voting certification lists - a coup in plain sight...

The mandates, like the segregationist policies of the American South in the 60s, can not withstand the tide of history.

Are you seriously comparing public health mandates to racial segregation?

I find it ironic that the same GOP Trump supporters who complain about unvaccinated asylum seekers coming across the Mexico border support a movement that is protesting the requirement to be vaccinated when you cross the border.

Let's see, COVID infections per 100K people, Canada has 1/3rd the cases than the USA. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-cases.html

I know who I'd trust more. The GOP and GOP-leaders are the root-cause of all the COVID deaths in the US.

The Canadians are right to be mad and tell the US to stay out.

I always thought democracy is where people have the right to choose their lives. Police stealing citizens fuel in freezing cold weather, GoFunDMe stealing peoples money, talk of setting the army on peaceful civilians…

of course if GoFundMe keeps that money, or gives it to Libs, he’ll have a point.

why do I doubt that’s going to happen?

It’s not going to happen anymore.

It was going to happen, gofundme announced that.

the media attention from getting sued for fraud caused them to first implement a refund process and then just automatically give the money back.

Not that they think they did anything wrong by trying to steal the money- they were getting killed with chargeback fees from credit cards.

No, the Dems can hold on that for the next 10 months while they can, but in the meantime, that’s not going to derail the Republicans efforts to investigate GoFundMe.

There will be more of that if Putin invades Ukraine.

Not for the US.

just as ironic as liberals being perfectly ok with unvaccinated Mexicans but not unvaccinated Canadians.

irony works both ways, which is ironic.

No, I think you’re the one that’s heavily focused on that, the rest of the world is more worried about more important issues like rising food costs, gas prices and empty store shelves.

what part of that diatribe was about Canada?

well you did the word "COVID" in there, thats about it.

Who are ‘they’?

Canada's public safety minister said Monday that U.S. officials should stay out of his country's domestic affairs, joining other Canadian leaders in pushing back against prominent Republicans who offered support for the protests of COVID-19 mandates that have besieged downtown Ottawa for more than a week.

Now it makes sense why some of the Canadian leaders don’t want US interference. They were caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Some U.S. Republicans on Saturday vowed to investigate GoFundMe’s decision to take down a page accepting donations in support of protesting truck drivers in Canada, although GoFundMe early Saturday already said it would simply refund all donations.

The convoy protest began as a movement against a Canadian vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers, but has turned into a rallying point against public health measures in Canada. It has also gained increasing support among U.S. Republicans, including former President Donald Trump.

Not people who are simply saying thar donations should be given to who they donated to. not stolen by the Canada government to stop a peaceful protest.
