So what is Trudeau going to do about this?
Bintaro
If even Canada gets intolerant, there's no more hope in this world.

Canada seems to be staying the course with regard to tolerance and acceptance, in my mind doing better than any country I can think of.
Some Canadian individuals are whack, which, sadly, is to be expected in a population of 37 million people.
bass4funk
There’s a lot more intolerance in Canada than people or the media want people to believe. Yes, Canada is welcoming, but that too is also fading fast that many Canadians are not happy with the government having a more blanket open door policy. I have no doubt hate crimes will spike, let’s see to what lengths the Canadian government will go to try and hide this growing problem.

Isn’t the political leader of a country responsible for the atmosphere and climate that he has created which allows hate crimes to happen?
Toasted Heretic
Canada is a multi-racial, multi-faith country. This ugly hatred is whipped up by fear, ignorance and also external influences.
The worst thing that could happen, is in response, the country goes down the populist route. We've seen what happens in other countries when that disease takes hold.
Jimizo
What’s your evidence for this claim?
Toasted Heretic
Same evidence that nobody in Europe watches the news, it sounds good in my head.
Such a shame that a very serious issue is now being played out as a thinly-veiled attack on Trudeau and his policies.
Hate crime and racism has no place in any society, regardless of who is in the hot seat at the time.

What's with the broad-brush critique of populism? Sounds like a lazy neoliberal epithet, which would be ironic considering it's their 40 year reign that's led to this moment.
Not all populism is right-wing. I'm a progressive populist, like my father and grandfather before me. There has long been a rich tradition of left-populism in the West. Chalking anything other than the corporate friendly ethos of the Davos set as dirty populists is not the way to regain power from reactionaries.
bass4funk
There seems a lot of that going on in the Western world.
bass4funk
Same evidence that’s so many people make comments about countries like the US and Canada and I have no idea at all, except for being guided by scraps of news and what they hear from their friends, neighbors and by clicking the channels searching for Animal Planet.
Policies where it seems more and more people are starting to reject slowly.
Agreed.

It's worrying that Trump's using the White House and state media (aka Fox 'news') plus outlets like Breitbart, infowars, RT, beforeitsnews.com, nodisinfo.com, veteranstoday.com, toprightnews, tru news, the new american, beforeitsnews.com, nodisinfo.com, veteranstoday.com and others to whip up more fear and ignorance.
But Trump knows, as all other despots have known, raising fear levels makes it easier to justify even more spending on the military. And in the US keeps the guns and ammo businesses booming.

But this is a Canada problem. What will THEIR leader do to solve the hate filled climate he has allowed to prosper under his administration?
Where is the proof? Hate crimes are up, that’s the proof.
Silvafan
Stupidity! Dump's #1 export to the rest of the world and close neighbors!
Blacklabel
But none of the people who threatened to move to Canada after the election actually did. So it’s a Canada problem. I’m interested how they resolve it so that other countries can learn from their experience.
bass4funk
I don’t get it, what’s the difference when the use CNN, msnbc, NYT, MoveOn, MotherJones, The Nation and virtually 98% of all the media outlets with the extra added bonus of Hollywood behind them playing the race card and using intimidation, fear and intimidation? Please tell me?
Jimizo
The media plays a large part in stoking up fear on both sides.
The difference with Trump as a leader is that he gives legitimacy to the worst baseless trash the media has to offer such as National Enquirer conspiracy nonsense, and even dodgy videos from racists he finds on the net.
Whatever you think of Trudeau, at least he doesn’t stoke up hatred in this disgusting manner.
Matt Hartwell
Strange and sad
How many Jews are there in Canada? Can't be many. Same for blacks, which I presume they mean African Canadian.
Be interesting to know how many hate crimes against while liberal and conservative men by those Antifa degenerates.
Nobody collecting those stats im sure. Hopefully Canada can avoid the spread of those knuckleheads.
Andrew Crisp
If Canadians have had enough and lose their famous friendliness and hospitality then we can blame Trudeau
Wc62six
Well.......they just legalized pot. Maybe they’ll all get stoned & mellow out.
goldorak
Doesnt mean Canadians are becoming intolerant. Hundred of thousands of ppl (immigrants) move to Canada every year, eventually more crimes will be committed against/by those migrants.
Reckon most ethnic groups in most countries would pay good money to be able to say that 'crimes against their group rose 151% to a 'massive'...349.
Toasted Heretic
So, more conjecture and no actual evidence. Quelle surprise.
Which people are rejecting it? If you mean the bigots behind the hate crimes, their ilk rises and falls, depending on socio-economic factors. Much easier to blame otherness for the woes in one's life.
What networks would these be? Those reporting on Russia-Ukraine, Brexit, G20, the NHS, Climate Change, environmental activism, the Lion Air crash, Tanzania-Chinese aid, Georgia elections, Bayer job cuts etc etc.
If the idea of hate crime is a liberal thing and isn't your cuppa, I'd turn off the drum machine and watch something less boring, instead.
Toasted Heretic
It matters little what numbers there are. The fact is that because they are a minority, they are being targetted.
As ever, the subject is turned around to that most oppressed and abused demographic, the white male.
Why is this?
Yes because the plight of the white male is the real problem. Those who stand up against hatred and bigotry are "degenerate".
How tiresome to see that word making a comeback.. Such a 1930s feel about it.
Matt Hartwell
I wouldn't say oppressed. I would say abused to some extent and increasingly so.
Do you read or watch the news by any chance? Yeah I know, never a good idea. Go over to the Guardian, you'll see half a dozen articles on the evils of the white man, mostly by white Western feminists, which is really hilarious. They are, of course, welcome to go live in the Mid East, Africa or Asia and see how they are treated. I'm sure it would be a step up for them....
It is a problem in countries that have, as a large percentage of their population, white men when a great deal of the criticism show's no nuance whatsoever. We are all to blame, apparently. It's one thing to criticize the actions of individual white men for their words or actions, its another to criticize white men wholesale, throwing around words like "white privilege" (must come as news to the non-white majority of the planet btw) and the "patriarchy" which the left does routinely and then jumps up and down when white men get annoyed by it and call it a crock. Surprise, surprise.
It wasn't used accidentally, that's for sure.
I have no problem with people calling out genuine hate and racism. I have a very big problem with idiots stopping people from speaking, damaging public property (ie uni campus damage, government buildings and alike) and generally acting like a lynch mob and a law unto themselves. As far as I am concerned you are denigrating Western culture, you are sending us backwards, not forwards, and yes, you are a degenerate.
Meaning (from Google)
"having lost the physical, mental, or moral qualities considered normal and desirable; showing evidence of decline."
"lacking some usual or expected property or quality, in particular:"
"an immoral or corrupt person."
"decline or deteriorate physically, mentally, or morally."
A good deal of that seems appropriate.

These sources are usually telling the truth or trying to tell the truth. Like you, Dump purposely lies for ratings and selfish self-interest.
