Insane policy. Inflating your population doesn't create prosperity: just the opposite. The pro-population credo is based on demographic projections, as opposed to reality, and most of the demographic projections I learned about in the 70s and 80s as a student turned out to be wrong - beyond wrong in many cases.
Already, Canada's healthcare system and housing industry are failing to cope with surging demand from more and more people. It's only going to get worse, although a collapse of the housing market - the world's least affordable - may eventually shake out the excessive valuations, which still would be a wrenching process for millions.
Yet none of this has to happen if the govt had a sane policy. I'm glad I live in Japan.
