Yea, I'd rather live with risk over freedom erosion.

Canada to pass anti-terror law; critics say it tramples rights
And who would be upset if the government went after terrorists and their friends, the far left of course!
The far left loves terrorists more than their potential victims!
Every free terrorist is a voter for the far left!

Support for the bill has dropped to 22% amongst Canadians. As my Canadian friend posted the other day, more people are killed by moose every year in Canada, than ever have been killed by terrorism.
It's not that Canadians support terrorism, they just aren't hysteric about it like other countries, and would prefer to recognize it in respect to the actual size of the problem, rather than letting the terrorists win by letting it terrorize them.

As a Canadian, I'd rather see CSIS's powers expanded as planned by the current government because as far as I'm concerned, “violent aboriginal extremists, militant environmentalists and others willing to go beyond peaceful actions to advance their cause" should all be tracked.
As for Stangerland's comments about more people being killed by moose than extremists every year in Canada, it's the truth, BUT extremists are a relatively new thing in Canada, and there are a LOT more moose. So, wait until we get more extremists, then comment. And Strangerland is 100% correct in saying we aren't hysteric(al) about the subject, but we are taking note. And that government bill has the support of more than 22% of Canadians, if you go beyond just one poll's misleading question.

What about violent government extremists, as evidenced in the invasion of citizens privacy, arrest for crimes not (yet) committed, drones killing civilians in other countries etc. Who is tracking them?

TrevorPeace... how old are you? Canada has had extremists going all the way back to Louis Riel. There was also the FLQ and any other number of groups since old LR. Nothing new there. Harper trying to cram in some over-the-top anti-terror law is not the way to handle it. He's a buffoon who wished he could have been in power alongside Bush 2. Hurry the next election along please so we can put this PM out to pasture.

Canadian terrorists killed 330 people when they put a bomb on Air India 182. I didnt realize moose are so deadly.
CSIS knew about these killers and what they were planning before the mass murder. Agents actually heard the blast of a test bomb. And what did they do about it? Nothing. Then a jury of Canadians let all but one - a low-ranking flunky -- of them walk.
That's hilarious. Canadians simply don't know, or don't want to know, including those jury members and CSIS agents.
Canadian terrorists have also murdered baggage handlers at Narita airport, and scores of people in Algeria, including 10 Japanese. Just don't tell Canadians about it, for the sake of political correctness.

Hey Canucks and I say Canucks with my tongue in cheek because they are a great nation of peaceful folks but there is no such thing as civil rights when you are defending your people against terrorists who don't care about you or any of your civil rights.

The very comments in this thread by TrevorPeace, who supports the bill, show that Canadians are not as hysterical as the rest of you in this thread.
Terrorism is a problem, but if you let it terrify you into acting irrationally, they win.
And it looks like they've already won.
