In Japan, the police run around taking pictures of "Bousouzoku" (bike gangs) and do nothing to arrest them. In the US, cops chase criminals at high speeds endangering the lives of countless innocent bystanders... there's got to be happy medium somewhere, where criminals are brought to justice without taking innocent lives.

The recession in the US appears to be driving more people to desperation and I suppose we can expect to read about more crimes occurring. I can't blame the criminals from trying to flee the scene, however, since they know the police will beat the c**p out of them before booking them. The urge to flee is instinctive.

What's the driver going to tell his mother and girlfriend?

The car’s driver was injured and was arrested at the scene, and the motorcycle rider was arrested at his nearby home, where several weapons were found, police said.

Once again cops and criminals play it tough and more kids die. If the cops arrested the guy on the motorcycle at home then why did they have to chase the others in the car if they knew where to find them?.

Both the cops and the criminals share the blame for the kids deaths.

So bloody sad..

Are you seriously saying that you accept what happened because the recession is driving people to do criminal acts & the police will knock them about if they are caught? Don’t you think that perhaps you are getting things the wrong way round here? A woman & 3 children died. Bad times & bad police don’t excuse that.

I know in LA they don't do "high speed" chases anymore, not for years. They simply follow the driver and as long as he's not making any threatening moves they don't attempt to stop him unless they are in a "safe" area with no others around. The other exception is when the driver is posing an immediate danger and it's worth the risk. There's no way to tell what was happening in this scenario since there isn't enough information, but my guess is more police offices use the LA method over others.

It's interesting that the police are being condemned here rather than the true culprits. I wonder why this is?

I know LA and ALL OF CALIFORNIA, just you wait for a CHP helicopter to fly over head, if you are in San Bernandino County, they do have the right to start shooting at you from their helicopters, where as in the greater LA area, they will just hunt you down and let the "Rodney King" effect go into motion.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read your post. There are 3 (2 retired) law enforcement officers in my family. All 3 believe heavily in the "ram the driver off the road at the first opportunity" method.

My father went through squad cars like some people go through socks, but no innocents were ever hurt and my dad was only threatened with being fired.

At least American coppers are taught to drive and how to properly T-bone suspect vehicles. In France they're apparently given a Starsky and Hutch DVD and a Renault Clio.

Interesting perspective. I'll take my chances of being run over by a fleeing criminal any day as opposed to being hit by a drunk driver running a red light. At least I might be able to hear the pursuit approaching.

Me, too. What's your point?

Unfortunately if the police do not chase suspects, anarchy would exist.

What's the driver going to say to the mother who he gravely injured ( assuming she survives ) and whose child or children he killed?

Whatever you can best make of it.
