A scary man on so many levels. Isn't he one of the candidates banging to reduce government involvement in US American's lives, to cut government back? I know the US and the world need to be vigilant, but worry that those who want to keep fear alive are making the world even scarier. Personally I have little to fear except fear-mongerers themselves.

While extremism in any form is a threat to civilization, our nation's greatest enemy isn't a criminal group like Daesh or Al Qaeda. the greatest threats are our own ignorance and paranoia, pushing us toward unqualified leaders who pander to those unable or unwilling to think rationally. Carson is a symptom of our failing culture and continuing inability to adapt to the present and future; maybe that's his appeal.

Supermarkets?! Who the hell ever plots anything at a supermarket?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I'd keep an eye on the hospitals too. Swivel-eyed religious crackpots holding scalpels would scare the hell out of me.

Ben Carson said Monday mosques, schools, supermarkets, car repair shops and “any place where radicalization is going on” should be monitored

Ben Carson should be monitored and his punch drunk buddy Rump the Great. Get ready America, you're entering the age of an American Stasi brought to you by the GOP Shia-Tea.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

If you're going to monitor radicalization, then it looks like the GOP needs to be monitored.

I find it extremely hard to believe that ANYONE is buying into what Dr. Carson and The Donald are espousing. Scary, to say the least.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I find it extremely hard to believe that ANYONE is buying into what Dr. Carson and The Donald are espousing. Scary, to say the least.

It's the exact same reason people go to fundamental groups like ISIS.

In the Middle East, people are scared, and people are angry. ISIS preaches an angry rhetoric, with talk of revenge against the west, attacks, and empowerment. Fundamentalists like ISIS make the people feel like they have a voice, like they have weight. They make the people feel better within their fear.

In America, people are scared, and people are angry. Trump and Carson espouse an angry politic, with talk of revenge, attack, and empowerment. Fundamentalists like Trump and Carson make people feel secure and safe, like they are actually fighting back. They make the people feel better within their fear.

Different faces on the same phenomenon. And it's a phenomenon that has worked time and time again over the centuries, which is why you see the same rhetoric that was spouted about the Japanese and about Jewish refugees 70 years ago being re-spouted about Muslims and Syrian refugees now.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Yep. Fear is one of the greatest tools of control that humanity knows.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Monitoring people and harassing them is sure not to radicalize them in any way. I foresee great success for this scheme if Dr. Carson gets elected president. It's just what America needs-- more government intrusiveness into everyone's private lives. Another thing he could suggest is we all spy and inform on each other. In fact, he should propose we start a youth group where good young citizens are trained to spot subversive elements and seditious speech and potential threats in their own homes. Needs a catchy name like... oh... Carson Youth. Or Trump Youth. Works for either candidate.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Monday mosques, schools, supermarkets, car repair shops and “any place where radicalization is going on” should be monitored in light of terrorist threats.

That's right, pander to the lowest common denominators -- feaar and prejudice. Hope wolf amd Mark are proud of the candidates their party is fielding.

Carson wants mosques, schools, supermarkets watched closely

Sorry, it's a typo. Should read:

Carson wants watched closely

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Mosques are well known places for like minded radicals to meet and plan. It would be crazy not to keep an eye on them. Of course a plot can be hatched anywhere but it sounds funny to specify a place like a supermarket. Carson isn't a career politician so I give him a pass on such a minor point. A regular person without an axe to grind knows what he is trying to say. Carson is an amazingly brilliant and accomplished man but political acumen (ie. lying without shame) is something you cannot learn in a book.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Its simple. Keep the refugees from entering the US. Who will have a hard time adapting to american culture. Let FINCEN monitor any shady financial transactions, from ouside of the US, where muslims in the US seek to profit from.

No need to accuse them of cheering on 9/11 and placing surveillance on schools & supermarkets.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Trump all the way! Or Carson! Not because either is brilliant or anything, but just because I'd like to see them put their money where their mouth is. They will either accomplish a lot and make many people eat crow, or they will fail miserably and plunge the U.S. into the dark ages that would make the Bush years seem like a sunny day at the beach. I say, give em a chance. Let's roll the dice! What have we got to lose?

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Obama said terrorism is on the run 3 years ago. Has he lied or does he have no idea what the reality truly is?

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Well he definitely misjudged.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Of course a plot can be hatched anywhere but it sounds funny to specify a place like a supermarket. Carson isn't a career politician so I give him a pass on such a minor point.

Or - Perhaps he is crazy like a fox! Announcing monitoring at places such as schools, supermarkets, and car repair shops guarantees that terrorists will avoid this places as their venue to scheme, thus limiting them to easier-to-monitor venues such as shoe stores and hair salons. The man is either insane or brilliant. You be the judge.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

......and continues today Stranger! Is he the only world leader that knows more than the others?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

How DARE Dr. Carson go against Obama's mantra that the "JV team", ISIS, has been "contained".

Heh, to U.S. liberals -- aka, the perpetually angry -- freedom of speech is a good thing as long as it agrees with their point of view. . . .

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

The man is either insane or brilliant. You be the judge.

He has successfully operated on a babies brain while still in the womb and separated Siamese twins. And because he is conservative and black the Left thinks he is a mentally impaired. The Left are either insane or ideologically blind to reality. I don't think his brilliance is up for debate. That said he isn't a politician and he doesn't believe in oppressive political correctness.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Carson isn't a career politician so I give him a pass on such a minor point.

Of course you do. Just like you gave him a pass on a dozen other silly and/or bigoted things he has said in the past few weeks. Because you'll "give a pass" to anyone who isn't Obama or Clinton. In other words, any challenge to his real intelligence -- his own advisor said it was impossible to get him to understand anything about foreign affairs -- or experience is not relevant in your eyes. Classic.

@Wolfpack

Compare and contrast:

The comments made by Dr. Carson, an accomplished surgeon, author and a candidate for the office of POTUS, are read by millions of people around the world

Comments made by Japan Today posters whom have made no documented accomplishments in life other than spending the majority of their waking hours posting their "thoughts" on a website based over there in Japan, are read by tens of people around the world.

You be the judge. . . .

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Ben Carson should be monitored and his punch drunk buddy Rump the Great. Get ready America, you're entering the age of an American Stasi brought to you by the GOP Shia-Tea.

I don't blame Carson, there should be a better implementation of a strategy of how to ensure the safety and to weed out a bunch of these sleeper cells that would kill us at the right moment.

Fear is one of the greatest tools of control that humanity knows.

Or "Fool we once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." Fear is what can save your life.

I'd keep an eye on the hospitals too. Swivel-eyed religious crackpots holding scalpels would scare the hell out of me.

I am quite sure the liberal brain is devoid of a cerebral cortex, therefore, there would be NO cognitive feeling or even a bit of awareness. So fear wouldn't be a factor.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

@TexAg posting their "thoughts" on a website based over there in Japan,

Surprised you've got the time to write. Thought you'd be out there keeping the Texas borders secure. And aren't there Texas websites you can troll?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Ben Carson said Monday mosques, schools, supermarkets, car repair shops and “any place where radicalization is going on” should be monitored

How about monitoring Carson's house? There is obvious radicalization there.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Heh, to U.S. liberals -- aka, the perpetually angry -- freedom of speech is a good thing as long as it agrees with their point of view. . . .

Where has anyone, Liberal or otherwise, suggested Carson be prosecuted for anything he has said? I'm starting to suspect you don't know what freedom of speech means (hint: calling someone an idiot for saying something stupid, is not restricting their freedom of speech, it's exercising one's own).

I don't think his brilliance is up for debate.

The man believes the world is 6000 years old. It's most definitely up for debate.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

mosques, schools, supermarkets, car repair shops

He forgot to mention pyramidal-shaped grain storage silos.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The comments made by Dr. Carson, an accomplished surgeon, author and a candidate for the office of POTUS, are read by millions of people around the world

Millions of people watch soap operas and reality TV. Your point?

Comments made by Japan Today posters whom have made no documented accomplishments in life other than spending the majority of their waking hours posting their "thoughts" on a website based over there in Japan, are read by tens of people around the world.

What, like the one below yours? Got any "documented accomplishments" yourself to speak of?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

How about monitoring Carson's house? There is obvious radicalization there.

I think if anything, he would probably bomb the Democratic party. But strapping on a suicide vest? Come on you guys, you're losing your touch.

The man believes the world is 6000 years old. It's most definitely up for debate.

So what he if believes that. None of you guys are going to lose sleep over it. Some people believe there is a God and some don't. There are other serious matters than to chastise someone for what they believe in. Jeez!

I think everyone has the absolute right to believe in what they want and many do agree with Carson and Trump and nothing will change that. Even the great Obama is powerless to do so.

What, like the one below yours? Got any "documented accomplishments" yourself to speak of?

Hmmmm, keep trying, but NO cigars. ROFL

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

"Fool we once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." Fear is what can save your life.

Poor thing! It must be absolutely terrifying...

0 ( +3 / -3 )

No one seems to mind the NSA tracking your every move (A program the Obama administration has continued) yet the Libs go off the block when other surveillance is suggested.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Quite possibly, just pandering to paranoid Americans, a significant voting block. In America, you can say "God dang it!" or "Thank God" or "There but for the grace of God go I" then proceed to shoot up a school, all while wearing a crucifix, and you will be described as a lone wolf psychopath and suspected atheist. But if you have dark skin and launch a revenge terror attack on Paris while yelling "Allahu Akbar" suddenly everything you ever did was because of Islam and so, even refugees seeking refuge from the same terrorists are now suspect, even when they are an ocean away from Paris.

The question is if he believes what he says or if he is just pandering to those paranoid voters. Either, its very embarrassing for decent Americans.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Poor thing! It must be absolutely terrifying...

could be because I'm not suicidal.

No one seems to mind the NSA tracking your every move (A program the Obama administration has continued) yet the Libs go off the block when other surveillance is suggested.

Bingo! Add to that a move that after it was implemented by Bush, the Obama admin. ratcheted it up.

He saw video footage of thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering the Sept. 11 attacks.

If those cheering Muslims in New Jersey are American Citizens or Green Card holders, their hearts are black as charcoal. They are traitors or Trojan horses. I could not bear to watch the 9/11 victims suffering and painful deaths. It is the way of humanity for fellow human being.

USA needs new president who will be touch, combative and realistic. Political Correctness in Paris has been rewarded with blood shed. Not with Wine and Roses. Tolerance and understanding in France is only one way street.

USA does not need to be sugar coated for pleasing radicalized people. In the perfect world, Obama will stand up for long suffering Americans. However his loyalty is questionable because of his middle name.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The man believes the world is 6000 years old. It's most definitely up for debate.

So what he if believes that. None of you guys are going to lose sleep over it. Some people believe there is a God and some don't. There are other serious matters than to chastise someone for what they believe in. Jeez!

It does make me quite upset that the leader of the most powerful nation in the world could be so fundamentally wrong about something..

It does matter what they believe, what people believe, right, wrong, misinterpreted or not has an effect on what people do. Just ask a few of those 129 in Paris if it matters, oh thats right, you can't because they died because of what someone else believed very deeply..

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

If those cheering Muslims in New Jersey are American Citizens or Green Card holders, their hearts are black as charcoal. They are traitors or Trojan horses. I could not bear to watch the 9/11 victims suffering and painful deaths. It is the way of humanity for fellow human being.

That's what it's all about all along and the key word is security. And this president has lost ALL credibility when it comes to homeland and foreign security and if you object.....you are a racist and anti-muslim etc.

USA needs new president who will be touch, combative and realistic. Political Correctness in Paris has been rewarded with blood shed. Not with Wine and Roses. Tolerance and understanding in France is only one way street.

Exactly.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The man believes the world is 6000 years old. It's most definitely up for debate.

So what he if believes that.

It shows a serious lack of ability to think critically. It shows that he is not able to separate belief from fact. A president needs to act based on reality, not on what he's been told by a bunch of people who tell him ridiculous things like that the world is 6000 years old. If he is willing to believe something so easily disprovable as that, then what other ridiculous ideas will he believe as president? And how will he act when believing these things? These are serious issues.

I think everyone has the absolute right to believe in what they want

No one has claimed otherwise.

If those cheering Muslims in New Jersey are American Citizens or Green Card holders, their hearts are black as charcoal.

Fact checking has shown that whatever Trump may have said, it didn't actually happen: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/nov/22/donald-trump/fact-checking-trumps-claim-thousands-new-jersey-ch/

So don't lose any sleep over the issue.

Republican party seems really broken intelligently.

bass4funk: "So what he if believes that. None of you guys are going to lose sleep over it. Some people believe there is a God and some don't. There are other serious matters than to chastise someone for what they believe in. Jeez!"

So what would you think if he believed in Allah? because you seem to be saying those who do need to be monitored and watched closely. Why not if someone believes in god? And don't you dare try to say there are no Christian radicals or terrorism committed by Christianity -- there's been far more of that in history than with Islam, and it's Christians like bush that made ISIS after all.

Meanwhile, is Carson for monitoring the NRA or gun sales? Because it seems the NRA and others stand behind the right to sell terrorists weapons, but at the same time suspect innocent refugees of being terrorists that should not be allowed in.

If only the right-wing bothered to learn what it practiced, so that it could then think about what it preaches and practice it.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

He and Donald Thrump are right!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

ALL ABOOOAAARRD!!!!

Everyone come along for a ride on the FEAR train.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"And this president has lost ALL credibility when it comes to homeland" The American body count is low since Bush left. Buth civilians and troops.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Last I checked the FBI was doing it's job pretty well.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Carson and Trump keep one upping the ridiculousness each passing day.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"Republican party seems really broken intelligently." The Texas Governor thinks Obama is going to invade.....Texas.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"And this president has lost ALL credibility when it comes to homeland" The American body count is low since Bush left. Buth civilians and troops.

Nonsense, you're inventing facts. According to Wiki, as of October 1, 2015, there have been 2,326 U.S. military deaths in support of operations in Afghanistan. About 600 of those troops died during Bush's 8 years, meaning that 1726 have occurred on Obama’s watch.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Iraq?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Nonsense, you're inventing facts. According to Wiki, as of October 1, 2015, there have been 2,326 U.S. military deaths in support of operations in Afghanistan.

What about the 100,000+ Afghan civilians?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@SenseNotSoCommon,

Yeah. Drones took a much larger role as troops were moved out. Now less troops are getting hurt but many civilians are being killed on the other side.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yeah. Drones took a much larger role as troops were moved out. Now less troops are getting hurt but many civilians are being killed on the other side.

And that's quite OK? Out of sight, out of mind. It's not even homicide any more, just collateral damage.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Of course it`s not okay. But your ideal president has continued on with countless measures that have allowed this to occur over and over again and not a word from all the left wingers.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@point,

Not my president.

Just an equal stakeholder, as were the 100,000+ Afghani civilians, in this great planet of ours. Let's not forget that.

Pace سلام שלום Hasîtî शान्ति Barış 和平 Мир

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Did someone say left wingers? Afghanistan? People dying? Get the Chinese military in on it? Americans are spilling their blood and so far the Chinese have inked up to trillions in future mining rights and not a single drop of Chinese blood over this?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The man believes the world is 6000 years old. It's most definitely up for debate

Obama believes there is an invisible man flouting around in space that he has never seen that he calls God. He spent 20 years of his life in a racist church praying to this all powerful and supremely just God and you think Carson is nuts for suggesting the world is only 6000 years old?
