Scott free. And still proclaiming his innocence. Not so much as an apology.

So, can we assume the hunt is on for the “real” perpetraters?

Chicago isn’t known for one of the most corrupt political machines for no reason.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

So, if you are a gay black man from Hollywood you are immune from prosecution. This smacks of 'gay, black, Hollywood privelige' doesn't it?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Poor Juisy was lucky to escape the attack with his life. As he told us, he fought back bravely. Now, we know there are two white homophobic racists in MAGA caps who are still out there and probably waiting for the next opportunity to carry out another foul Trump- inspired attack. Im fearful worried.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Buying "justice" in the Windy City is cheaper than I expected.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I'm delighted that this witch hunt is over. Smollett is totally and completely exonerated.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr Smollett's volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case

In other words he's guilty.

I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one

In other words...wait, what?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Totally and completely.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This must never again be allowed happen to an actor. Never.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"an innocent man whose name and charracter has been unjustly smeared."

This is problematic to say the least. So can Juisy now sue Chicago PD? After all, his good name is smeared.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Only the unhinged believed ( or made themselves believe) the accusations of a hoax.

JS said all along it was a bs witch hunt. He is proven to be right.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Yup, Chicago backdoor thug tactics in its purest form. I don’t agree much at all with Rahm Emanuel, but even he’s stunned by this disgraceful kabuki stunt. But it’s Chicago, the most corrupt city in the country, I wasn’t THAT surprised by this given the history of corruption that is just normal everyday politics.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Jussie Smollett: "I've been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one...This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life.”

Only a sociopath could possibly think we believe that statement.

Simply incredible.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I don’t agree much at all with Rahm Emanuel, but even he’s stunned by this disgraceful kabuki stunt.

Yeah, and if it were proven that Smollett was guilty on all counts then Republicans and their TV surrogates would be dancing on the ceiling like Fred Astaire, don’t kid yourself.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Riiiight, so given that Juisy is innocent and has had his name and charracter unjustly smeared and no doubt sufferred lost income too, its logical he will sue, right?

And any word from Chicago PD on how the hunt is going for the MAGA maniacs who attacked Juisy with rope and bleach?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

He agreed to forfeit his bond? That just isnt right. Return Juisy's bond to him!

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I think all you Jussie haters need to get over this and move forward. With a big box of tissues.

MCGA!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Sends threatening letter to self.

Pays friends to "beat him up".

Eats sandwhich.

Files fake police report.

Goes on news

Gets caught.

Gets charged.

?????????

Charges dropped.
3 ( +5 / -2 )

$100,000 payoff gets a pretty, gay, black, man, freedom for lying to police. Good to know.

Wonder which election campaign will be getting the next checks?

So much for justice being blind.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yeah, and if it were proven that Smollett was guilty on all counts then Republicans and their TV surrogates would be dancing on the ceiling like Fred Astaire, don’t kid yourself.

ROFL, even Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s most loyal pet, is completely shocked by this. That tells me a lot, but given the history with corruption why is anyone surprised, seriously.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@plasticmonkey, what does "move forward" mean? I cant imagine you mean let it go and carry on. You mean move forward with Smollet's litigation against Chicago PD and total clearing of his name and charracter right? Simply dropping charges isnt enough after the ordeal this fine young man has been put through.

And those evil brothers who lied about JS paying them to fake an atrack on him? They arent being punished? No justice no peace!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

How can you 'pubs even think that Jussie has done anything after Smolett's complete and utter exoneration? Face it - your right-wing 'pub leaders lied to you, and you guys bought it hook line and sinker. The Republican party has failed.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I agree with posters here that it seems that if Mr. Smollet is truly innocent then......

1: He should sue the police department for wrongful arrest and defamation of character.

2: The police should continue to pursue the 'real' attackers.

I won't bet on either.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@strangerland, hmmm, but Smollet's lib celebrity friends and supporters dissapeared overnight as the facts came out. I guess they sufferred from temporary "unhingement" and we can look forward to them coming back in force with righteous indignation to celebrate and support Juisy's litigation against Chicago PD.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

How can you 'pubs even think that Jussie has done anything after Smolett's complete and utter exoneration?

I'm not sure what a "pub" is (except if it means a place where we drink).

But he was not "exonerated." It only means that they cannot match what he did to a specific law that they can charge him with breaking.

Smollett claimed to have been assaulted by two white Trump supporters. That did not happen. We know now that they were not Trump supporters, nor were they even white.

In other words, Smollett lied.

He claimed to have been the target of racist and anti-homosexual comments. Those comments were said, but we know now that they were part of an act.

And it was an act that, at least it seemed, he was fully willing to milk as "truth" -- until his deception was exposed.

So, I don't understand why you think he did nothing wrong here. He certainly did, and it is not factually deniable.

He deliberately tried to cast his political opponents as evil people in an undeserved way. And he only demeaned and trivialized the experience of people who truly are victims of racism and hatred.

And he did so for selfish reasons -- partly to advance his career, and partly to carry out his political activism.

But in both ways, he was utterly dishonest and selfish. He may not have technically broken a law, but that hardly means that what he did was right. It most definitely was not.

It's quite telling that some people on the left side of American politics are actually supporting this deceptive and dishonest man.

That the "progressive" movement holds up a man like this as some sort of hero says a lot. And none of it good.

The article is misleading. In the US you only need 10% of the bond in cash. So he forfeited only $10,000 not $100,000.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I think we actually don't know much of anything anymore to be honest. There has been so much stuff put out, one could easily put forward an argument that he is entirely guilty or entirely innocent, with supporting evidence for both sides now.

The only things we know for a fact are:

There was an incident It initially appeared that his explanation of the incident was enough to pursue an arrest warrant Charges were dropped

Everything else beyond that is speculation.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

What is not beyond speculation:

Smollett agreed to forfeit his 10k bond. His lawyer admits that Smollett hired the two brothers to 'attack' him. Further,

"Smollett said he wanted "nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life," while his family put out a statement saying he had been vindicated."

Smollett is anything but vindicated. And as such, will not anytime soon be getting back to work nor moving on with his life.

Of that, I am certain.

SuperLib Today  09:49 am JST

As Trump would say, "Completely vindicated!!!"

Not so fast. There are still possible charges that he may face on the federal level.

He would have been wise to plead guilty to some lesser state charge, and then accepted a light punishment such as a fine or a probation. That would have kept the "feds" out of it.

But as it is, the Chicago police and the mayor are furious. And they will probably have no problem in helping the federal government pursue charges. They may be handing over documents and evidence to the FBI right now.

He may be facing charges related to this case regarding obstruction of justice or a mail offense.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The judge said he was innocent, too!

I'm confused, is the guy guilty of creating a hoax attack or was he actually attacked? This decision seems to leave it completely in a grey zone

He definitely created a hoax attack. I don't think even he is denying that -- although he claims he did it for publicity, not to intentionally commit a crime. (But making false reports to the police, I am certain anyway, is a crime.)

The prosecutor has dropped charges. That doesn't necessarily mean he is innocent. It could mean that the prosecutor feels he/she won't win a guilty verdict.

Or it could mean he paid someone off.

Or it could mean there are higher-ups in Chicago whose politics align with his, and who "fixed" things for him. I have heard, after all, that Chicago can be a particularly corrupt place.

I also understand that the mayor and the police in Chicago are furious about this. And I don't blame them.

So if the federal authorities wish to investigate this, I'm sure the local police will be very , very, very willing to cooperate!

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Anyways, I agree with our friends from the right. Smolett is definitely guilty.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The actual police department still say he did it. This is some more of this liberal privilege type justice.

if not guilty why doesn’t he get his bond back and why does it matter if he did community service?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Personally, I could care less about Hollywood or this idiot Smollett, it’s Chicago, I mean, Jessie Jackson, the race hustler who made millions off of it, his own son went to prison for trying to sell Obama’s old Senate seat. This is the culture of Chicago.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Chicago don't even rank in any of the ten worst cities to live in?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

This is not going away. Jussie keeps making it worse. Seems to have "slipped the noose"....again. He has no honor. Once he is found to be the villian that he is, there will be no recourse except sepuku

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

https://www.roadsnacks.net/these-are-the-10-worst-chicago-neighborhoods/

No thank you.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I have no idea to what degree he is innocent and/or guilty of the current crime, but regardless of what it is, it's pretty naive to think someone is going to not defend themselves against charges against themselves so that you can think they are honorable.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It is naiive to believe that someone doesn't need to defend their honor when challenged with a enormous amount of evidence to the contrary. Let alone, use influence to prevent any truths from being ascertained at all.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Some people just can't accept the fact that Smollett won and is totally exonerated. Fake news witch hunt hoax by corrupt far right goons.

This is the culture of Chicago.

Man, if I had a nickel for every time you've derided Chicago, I'd have a penthouse in Trump Tower.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

nobody is addressing the fact that there are two racist homophobes in MAGA caps going free and just waiting for the next record sub-zero temperature night to roam the deserted streets at 2am looking for famous gay people of color to attack.

So, Smollett really was assaulted in a hate-crime fashion by a pair of Trump-supporting racists?

I don't think even he himself is now saying that.

The man himself even says now that he staged the "hate-crime attack."

The only hoax here was the one engineered by Smollett himself -- without any help at all by "corrupt far right goons."

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Curioser and curioser. CNN: The prosecuter said the charges would not have been dropped without the bond forfeiture and community service factor.

When asked whether he considered Smollet to be innocent, the prosecuter told CNN: "No".

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Dude's joking about lynching and advocating suicide.

Kamala Harris to CNNs Wolf Blitzer today regarding the charges against Smollet being dropped: "Im completely confused."

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Bass

You seem to have a lot of hate for certain places in the US.

Sad.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It’s the fact that liberals see nothing wrong with this result while cheering for others to die in jail that I find quite strange.

Equal justice for all? The police and the prosecutor say he isn’t innocent. So what happened? Liberals: nothing at all to see here. What happened to that “justice” you were wishing upon falsely accused people?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Well, we need someone to clear this situation up but it appears that everyone, including the prosecuter, knows Juisy is guilty of perpetrating the hoax etc but he has been let off because the forfeiture of ten thousand dollars bond, and some community service was deemed appropriate punishment.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

“Smollett performed a total of 16 hours of volunteer service on Saturday and Monday for the Rainbow Push Coalition, which was founded by the Rev. Jesse Jackson.”

uh ok. All better then.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So it’s fine if Michael Flynn does some work for 2 days for a military charity then pays 10,000. Hes all good too?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Tuesday evening, the Fraternal Order of Police delivered a letter to the States Attorneys office in Chicago, asking federal prosecuters to examine the chicago lead prosecuters office and the deal her underlings struck with Smollets attorneys for legality.

Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel and Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson excoriated the prosecuters decision, calling the matter a "whitewash".

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Blacklabel,

If Flynn were a famous Hollywood gay person of color then yes.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

a famous Hollywood LIBERAL gay person of color, that is.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The guy is an embarrassment and so is the 'justice system' that let him free just like that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Does Smollett get an Oscar for this performance?
