China became the world's only superpower this week thanks to the socialization of America, and Venezuela, Angola and Iran will give them the oil to keep growing. http://www.theendisalwaysnear.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-lose-friends-and-influence.html

The military acquisitions have raised concerns among U.S. officials, who argue that Venezuela does not need so much military power.
Nonsenses...!!The whole Latin America hates america thanks to Nixon's supporting the coup of Pinnochet's facist regieme!
The only method to make respects is the retailiations in return! America was history...without oil she is no hegamony!

“This is not going to affect supplies to any other country,” he said, when asked if sales to the United States would fall because of a planned increased in shipments to China.
The modernrization of China is the demise of America.......the recent wall street crisis was the landmark!

Someday China will exporting ballistic missles and cruise missles to Venezula.....and maybe helping Chavez to get the 'BOMB' like Pakistan! China will doing anything for oil!

It seems to me that Venezuela at least needs a military power sufficient to protect its resources and to deter attacks. According to one source on military strength, Venezuela's military is rated as 36th strongest in the world, behind Japan (7th, and why?), Brazil (9th), Mexico (14th), Saudi Arabia (22nd, with equal population), Thailand (23rd), the Philippines (30th), Iraq (34th) and Libya (35th).

The modernrization of China is the demise of America.......the recent wall street crisis was the landmark!" Considering, and having been there several times, China is based on one race of people, I'll admit I have an issue with that. And while China's success is good, how far are they willing to help others around them. Sorry to offend, but seems to me many there, like Japan, have a superiority complex.
Sez: not to mention, Chavez is having great problems in his own country. Please look to the Spanish media and most definitely do not look a news from there via any of the English main stream media outlets. If you can't read Spanish, which I am confident you can to a great deal, the translations provided are pretty much on the money. Look at how much the military is used for internal matters.

Give this guy a knighthood. He called this crisis - oil and the rest of it, long before they zapped ENRON!!! White Venezuelans love to pour scorn on him yet are reaping the benefit of being a 'loved' Venezuelan when they travel abroad on business.

Liberals and radical Chinese rejoice!

skipthesong,
No matter how much the military is used internally (and that would be Japan's primary use, would it not? and it would also be the primary use of most countries who do not use their military to wage war, I think), it seems to me that Venezuela still needs a force that is commensurate with the assets it has to protect. And it has to be cognizant of any outside powers that would seek to overthrow it from within.
You seem to me to be suggesting that Chavez is using his military to crush opposition. That also would not separate Venezuela from many another country on the list.

So all you Chavez haters. When are you going to advocate right here that we stop buying Venesuela's oil today? With out having another sourse or resourse to jump in immediately replace the oil that we'd lose by not buying from Chavez and country or the technology needed, who's saying stop importing his oil right now? < :-)

Mr Chavez should seeking nuclear cooperations with Chinese this is good for all the Latin America....they need that power essentially!
