Everyone misspeaks / makes mistakes when talking. Hillary said she landed under sniper fire, and Obama said he'd been to 57 U.S. states and you can keep your health care plan if you like it

Yes, everyone dies misleak at times. However, Trump repeatedly lied about where his own father was born. Keep trying, Sorrena.

Since their Russian collusion conspiracies failed, now they're back to his taxes. The Democrats don't even realize how crazy they look to everyone else.

'My father is German, was German, born in a very wonderful place in Germany.'

So it really looks like he was just lying. Or very confused.

You believe a guy that lies about where his own father was born. Enough said.

You can be "ethnic Germans" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksdeutsche but not born in Germany.

True, but here's what Trump actually said:

'My father is German, was German, born in a very wonderful place in Germany.'

So it really looks like he was just lying. Or very confused.

You can be "ethnic Germans" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksdeutsche but not born in Germany. I don't know about Trump's father, but my family is.

Japanese can be based on citizenship or language/culture too, correct?

You're confusing Trump with another major 2016 presidential candidate, presto.

UTime for a Constitutional Amendment requiring public disclosure of finances (including tax returns) for all elected and public officials. If you cannot stand the scrutiny, stay out of politics

Oh, please! Tell Lois Lerner that. After how she used and weaponized the IRS to take out conservative donors back in 2011, the GOP are on to their sneaky and despicable shenanigans once again. It’ll never happen again. I doubt the weasly Democrats will ever see his tax returns. Good luck Democrats, you keep failing again and again.

Liar*

One being a list doesn't negate the other. That you believe it does shows one of the reasons he has managed to con his way into the presidency.

The truth coming out, the evidence the dude is a conman

How is it that from June 2015 when Trump announced he's running for president, to the Nov. 2016 election you people couldn't come up with enough evidence that he's a conman to keep him from being elected, presto?

He's a pathological liar

You're confusing Trump with another major 2016 presidential candidate, presto.

What on earth is Trump so afraid of?

The truth coming out, the evidence the dude is a conman. Everyone already knows he's a pathological liar.

What on Earth is up with the obsession over someone's tax returns?

It's not just someone, it's the president. It's highly likely that he is acting in his own self interest instead of the interest of the country.

Its amazing that some people remember how to breath. Tee Hee.

How on Earth can someone need it explained so many times.

Like them or not, Trump's team always have the greatest expressions in their mugshots.

Democrats will never see Trump tax returns

Just like people in hell will never see slurpees.

Technically, Mulvaney is "acting" chief of staff while he doubles as secretary of the OMB. Why he's "acting" is mysterious as a cabinet position does not require senate approval. Perhaps Trump is waiting for signs of required obsequiousness. This will clearly help.

If they really want trumps, all standing and ex-politicians in congress and senate should also show theirs. That’s fair.

Most politicians don't have quite the outstanding criminal record that Trump does. I'm not sure it's needed for all, but upon request I think lawmakers should be required to show tax returns. If lawmakers aren't obeying their own laws, somethings pretty wrong here.

Luckily, it's not up to Mulvaney to decide. Have always thought it will be Trump's dodgy/illegal business dealings that will bring him down, not the Russia thing.

Oh and he's falsely claimed his father is German. But gets to call Elizabeth Warren "Pocahantas". The man is a walking, talking purveyor of bs and contradictory nonsense. What is he hiding?

Release the returns now.

He's rich and likes to boast about it, but you're not allowed see his taxes. He's smart and likes to boast about his intellect, but you're not allowed see his grades. He's completely exonerated, but you're not allowed see the report.

I have an idea. Make a law that mandates all national office holders release their tax returns for the last 7 yrs prior to taking office. Just ensure there are enough votes in both chambers to override the veto.

Trump won't do it, so he won't run for office in 2020. Problem solved.

What are Pelosi and her cohorts hiding?

If Pelosi or any politician is 'hiding' something, voters should be able to find out. Releasing tax info provides some transparency. For example, I'd like to find out how Mitch McConnell has got so much richer while in DC, and also why his already rich wife was appointed to a highly paid position in Trump's administration, and if her rich father's companies have benefitted from her and her husband's time in Washington. Among so many other questions.

Speaker Pelosi has been demanding Trump to release his tax returns for this year and the previous 9 years.

Will Speaker Pelosi support legally requiring the speaker of the House to release his or her tax returns? Will Speaker Pelosi release her tax returns for this year and the previous 9 years?

You can bet the answer is "NO" and many in Congress has refused to. What are Pelosi and her cohorts hiding?

So why should Trump release his tax returns when the Democrats aren't willing to respond in kind?

IRS officials have said taxpayers under audit are free to release their returns.

Just because the IRS says taxpayers under audits are free to release doesn't mean that they have to or are required to. They have the option and Trump has taken the option not to release, which is his privilege.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

An obscure 1924 statute includes no exceptions to Neal's authority to ask the Treasury Department for returns and says the department "shall furnish" them when requested. It does require that the review of an individual's return be conducted by members of Congress in "closed executive session" if the returns are provided without the taxpayer's consent.

That is black-letter law. It shouldn't take long for the courts to rule on this and get it up to the Big 9.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Trump broke with precedent when he chose not to release any tax returns as a presidential candidate

And voters with even the slightest ability to be objective asked why, what's he hiding. And continues to do so, particularly after reading about the long list of shady and illegal business practices Trump and family have been involved in in the US and 'abroad'.

What are you hiding, Trump? Why are Mulvaney and the other protectors of the elite protecting you? And your fellow elite.

Slimy businessman, slimier politician.
