Lai is an excellent parrot.

The history of western colonialism and imperialism has always involved the use of local collaborators with the invaders.

That wasn't his narrative before he took office. The reason the Communists defeated the KMT is because the Chinese did not want to become a minion of some Western imperialist. The people backed their own instead of the lackey Chiang Kai Shek. The same is happening in Taiwan now.

On 21 September 2007, the UN General Assembly rejected Taiwan's membership bid to "join the UN under the name of Taiwan", citing Resolution 2758 as acknowledging that Taiwan is part of China.

Highly controversial, as it was not discussed by the General Assembly, and also does not reflect the views of all the Security Council members.

...

https://www.voanews.com/a/a-13-2007-07-24-voa18/402694.html

Mr. Chen says the Taiwan government believes that only the U.N. Security Council and the General Assembly have the right to decide on the application of the 23 million people of Taiwan to join the United Nations under the name "Taiwan." He says that no individual, including the office of the secretary-general, has the right to decide on Taiwan's application.

The secretary-general's office returned the application without having it discussed by the General Assembly.

...

Clearly the result of PRC pressure at the UN, as Resolution 2758 says nothing about Taiwan, let alone anything about it being "part of China." You can read it for yourself:

I ponder how many posters with opinions can read the Chinese character above Lai's head. Is literacy in Chinese (or Japanese in the context of JT) important?

Some posters above clearly vomit from the mouth regardless. Pay no heed is my opinion but some might disagree.

What is the relevance of that to anything?Something made even more so as you can not see what else follows underneath it.

Let us talk a little about the history of Taiwan.

Japan invaded Taiwan in 1895 and took control of it away from the Qing dynasty of China.

False. The Qing Dynasty ceded Taiwan, the Pescadores, the Liaodong Penninusula to Japan after their defeat in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894. The Qing Dynasty was also forced to give up suzerinty over Korea.

While Japanese military operations were carried out in order to occupy Taiwan, it was after the Qing had already ceded control of Taiwan to Japan.

Let us talk a little about the history of Taiwan.

Japan invaded Taiwan in 1895 and took control of it away from the Qing dynasty of China.

After Japan's defeat in 1945, control of Taiwan returned to the Kuomintang ROC government.

The Kuomintang were defeated by the CCP in 1949 and retreated from the mainland to Taiwan.

The US navy began patrolling the Taiwan strait in 1950 at the same time as the Korean war began. This effectively blocked the CCP from any further military actions against the Kuomintang in Taiwan.

And what is your opinion about this?

You can see this character in the old Izakaya Yoronotaki 養老の滝 restaurants around Tokyo.

"We are all fully aware that China's growing authoritarianism will not stop with Taiwan, nor is Taiwan the only target of China's economic pressures," he told politicians and scholars from 11 countries attending the forum.

"China intends to change the rules-based international order. That is why democratic countries must come together and take concrete action. Only by working together can we inhibit the expansion of authoritarianism."

Lai is just a mouthpiece now.

Could you imagine a CCP leader coming to power who reversed all of Xin's expansionist policies and the Eastern World found itself in a long period of peace, prosperity, love and cooperation?

You are the perfect example of what they program you to think. You have to consider a CPC leader who is actually hawkish. China's war of attrition is the Economic War which is not the US's strong suit. You go with your strength.

Xi wants to build ports and more ports around the world like in Peru to transform South American trade. China has build 100 sea ports in Africa. China is about building megaports. That is where the war is taking place.

The defense industry's incessant clamoring and aggressive weapons sales pitch distract and take attention away from China and BRIC's growing economic leverage around the world.

It is the undisputable UN-recognized government of China, of which Taiwan is a part.

Sorry, but Resolution 2758 says nothing about Taiwan. You're spouting CCP fantasies again.

But that's hardly surprising coming from one who cheers daily for the Russian murderers, rapists, thieves, and child abductors. Birds of a feather indeed.

The stock phrase of the western media: "growing authoritarianism".

And what is this "rules-based international order"? Isn't that the US empire?

Taiwan is Beijing's rightful and historical real estate.

Sorry, but CCP fantasies do not equate to rights or history.

Important to observe Taiwan is a non-UN recognized separatist province.

Important to observe that only the CCP and pro-CCP countries hold this view. The rest of us, including the people of Taiwan, do not.

And if you can point us to a UN document that calls Taiwan a "separatist province" I'd love to read it, as I don't believe one exists.

Let's hope reunification can be done peacefully

You cannot "re"-unify something that has never been unified. The CCP/PRC has never controlled Taiwan.

but it will happen one way or the other.

We have another fortune teller here.

Well they have a base in Djibouti so that is a pretty wide empire. Population-wise, they are also 4x the size of the US.

Under no such reading of international law. Peking broke away from the ROC.

Important to observe Taiwan is a non-UN recognized separatist province.

Important to observe that Taiwan has more recognition than Russia's disgraces.

Let's hope reunification can be done peacefully but it will happen one way or the other.

Xi obviously doesn't think the PRC is ready for war as he started making the rounds with US officials again.

Exactly right. Those that would appease the CCP (or Russia, or any other authoritarian nation) must remember this.

History is full of examples of appeasement leading to disaster, the most famous being:

I think you might be surprised. Most of the world already hates the CCP. If China tries to take Taiwan, it will also likely try to cut off access to waterways vital for transport. The world won’t settle for that.
