They are fearful someone probably a child will point at Poo san and say…the Emperor has no cloths.
Then the child will disappear for months before appearing (confused) on a video being pocked by a stick describing how beautiful the Emperor’s clock looked, before slumping out of shot never heard of again,
I think the world gets it. Try protesting in China ani Vacation people.

they are REALLY embarrassing themselves now...
why dont they hold their own "Democracy with Chinese characteristics" summit and invite whoever they want...?

Talking about China or someone else?
Nobody is being "forced" to be democratic.
He should also have mentioned covid exposed serious flaws in China's initial response before anyone else's.
While one party rule will see those who oppose or suggest a different form of government disappear for good.

China’s criticism is off target. Incompetence in handling the virus is not necessary criticism of democracy. Rather it is the blind faith that things will get better rather than belief in science that is being criticized.
What the US has is far from China’s romantic vision of democracy. When the preferences of economic elites and the stands of organized interest groups are controlled for, the preferences of the average American have only a minuscule, non-significant impact on public policy.
Existing interest groups do not serve effectively for the wishes of the people as a whole. The corporate world is effective in Washington and generally desire policies that hurt the majority of the American populace by exporting jobs offshore.
The US is a democracy by name but not by practice. Who here thinks the majority rule in the US?

Democracy has nothing to do with the summit, it is just for countries that do what America tells them to. Hungary is a democracy, otherwise it could not be a member of the EU, but it does not do America's bidding and so was not invited to participate.

Corporations have the ears of all in Washington but importantly they do no get a vote, while the majority of people do get a vote. Hence the change of leadership from one party to another at the desires of the people. Unlike one party rule where the people get no say at all.

I guess it is based on free elections. We can argue all day on whether elections produce a truly democratic society. China might argue that anyone can join the CCP and therefore change things, and that it produces the most capable of leaders. So a kind of meritocracy. In Japan, it might be argued that the local jijikai is the best democratic model. Personally, I'm not so comfortable with any large country that has a very centralized government, however it is selected.
Churchill's comment perhaps still stands: "it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried".

Oh Gosh, if people could choose they’re government, whatever would happen to dictators like Xi? ( answer: he would disappear like a fart in the wind along with his diminutive twit Putin).
Blacklabel
Yet those of us who CAN choose our government somehow ended up with Joe Biden as the best choice?
Peter14
Many millions chose Biden after four years of Trump. Democracy in action.
Bob Fosse
Yeah. The alternative must have been really really awful.

It was CCP who did all they could to hide the virus from the world and are still preventing any meaningful investigation in to it's origin!
That is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship, just like Nazi Germany and USSR had or Democratic People's Republic of Korea has, the name says it all...
You can stick your CCP democracy where the sun don't shine!!!

Pleased to see that you finally admit that Biden won.
GdTokyo
Compared to a lying, incompetent, narcissistic sociopathic grifter who attempted a coup to overturn the results of a free and fair election?
Biden is a godsend.

its also about respecting the decision of the majority, regardless of whether you agree with their policies or not. american is semi-flawed in a way that a certain demographic turned violently riotous after biden was elected. you rarely see that elsewhere - Australia, Japan, UK in the wake of a major change in govt party.
the shortcoming of democracies is that everyone's opinion counts and should be taken into consideration, which means things take time to progress. if you just force certain policies upon the population like the ccp, then agree, things get completed quicker -- of course no one has a say if they dont agree with the policies or if they happen to live in a village where a dam is planned...

Schuck China!

after 11 months of subpar performance few believe this anymore.

To be fair, the US democracy is pretty flawed. It's cause way too most unrest and chaos within their own country. Is practically on fire now. If you had visited the US or follow their news, you will probably see just how bad it got over the last few years. The wealth gap between the people is ridiculous huge. And the violence.....

China gets it wrong again.
The document its self demonstrates they have no concept of what democracy is and entails, and do not want to find out.
The problem is that the USA is a Republic but it is not a democracy. Having said that the USA for all its many faults is a thousand fold preferable to the inhuman monstrosity that is the CCP run China.
Strengthening the philosophical bonds of democracies world wide and bringing a concerted counter argument to the self serving distortions served up by autocrats and dictatorships is sadly an urgent need.

Hiro, please don't expect that news from the US is representative of actual conditions in the US. The news in the US is 100% devoted to grabbing eyeballs for advertising. It always has focused and amplified the negative.
As to China's assertion that America is divided and a disaster because of it; I personally disagree, as a conservative on many things, I enjoy balance brought to society from those with different opinions than my own. If that is "division", I like that feature.

In fact it’s more about a healthy balance between a state and citizen’s individual rights and freedom. And while all (western or whatever) democracies of course have also quite some disadvantages and restrictions, it’s surely very much biased to state totalitarianism in countries like China and similar ones. Pure and hard capitalism has to be tamed, but even more those (group or party) dictatorships that are also by far not so communistic as they are saying they are.
