More proof that a zero covid policy doesn't work.

Endless cycle of cases, lockdowns, temporary control to be replaced with cases again, lockdowns again, etc.

Meanwhile other countries have achieved a much easier and sustainable control thanks to vaccination and effective treatments, meaning that sporadic cases are no longer a burden to the health services and the population is protected without needing to sacrifice their human rights, livehoods, etc to prevent infections because they can already prevent complications, hospitalizations and deaths.

Then again, the zero covid policy provides a very effective excuse to have the population under very strict control under the excuse that it is necessary to protect the people, looking at it from this point of view (and not from a public health view) it makes perfect sense that is used.

"All residents are required to stay at home,"

"Only one person in each household is allowed to buy daily necessities on a staggered schedule."

My goodness!

What a madness!

China sounds like some kind of hell.

More proof that a zero covid policy doesn't work.

Not completely false, because there are still some cases, but at least it works much better than the very most of other policies, which all have in common to further spread the viruses and enable their multiplying and recombining into new unknown and potentially worse variants. Or in short words, only a NoCovid strategy affects the viruses significantly.

China has a severe aging problem greater than Japan faces, and the elderly are more susceptible to covid.

Only if by "better" you mean using much more resources, losing human rights, causing more deaths by the measures or having the people perpetually at the risk of infection.

which all have in common to further spread the viruses and enable their multiplying and recombining into new unknown and potentially worse variants

That is false, the risk of new variants is higher for rampant infection on populations without immunization, because it leads to longer infection times that provide better selection of escape mutants. If a population is immune to a degree the infection is just background risk then the risk of this producing new variants is also decreased.

Meanwhile China still have a lot of troubles immunizing their population effectively, so any spread of the infection ends ups being also more likely to produce new variants as well, that will then spread because outbreaks are still frequent.

The only way a zero covid policy could prevent this risk is if it was effective to the point of no new outbreaks happening, but that is not realistically possible since Omicron became prevalent.

At the same time they announce potential relaxation of travel quarantines, causing markets to soar. These people are either crazy or very very cunning.

China open up please! I have to wait weeks or even months for spare parts for almost everything. Herd immunity is the best.

Unfortunately, Chinese mask compliance doesn't help you draw and conclusions or working inferences for the simple reason that although they are labeled as heing at KN95 standard, none of them have been tested to have been manufactured to spec.

Find suppliers outside China and move on. I know it is sometimes easier said than done but ultimately that is the long term solution.

At the same time they announce potential relaxation of travel quarantines,

The CCP could change their minds on this and return to the longer quarantines on a moments notice.

Since the Shanghai Leader was promoted, everyone else around the country see's that following this policy is a route to being promoted, so will do the same.

Xi is a Mad man, he authorized the release of this virus upon the World, with the hope of inflicting devastation upon all he considers his enemy. He knows that any inoculation attempts will result in a long-term weakening of viral protection for individuals, resulting in death from simple things such as the common cold, so is happy for the Global Pharmaceuticals to keep promoting their wares. As for his own peoples, he hates them and simply wishes to crush them into complete subservience, as an act of revenge for what happened to his own Family. China has been politically run by family run factions, and this is a war that we're seeing between them in order to obtain total power, before heading outside of China to conquer the World.

How many times has Xi been locked down in a 200 sqm flat for 6 weeks?

Seems only fair, for him to prove he's truly a leader of the Chinese people.

We have a saying. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results." Insane.
